OK, I installed wine I downloaded the eve client for windows. I clicked the executable and the error I gat was;
Quote:The file '/home/user/Downloads/EVE_Premium_Setup_246918.exe' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied from an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit.
I'm fairly certain CCP only has the best interests of my computer in mind when it comes to this program. Please help me convince my computer I'm not trying to kill it. Oh by the way I'm sum-what familiar with UNIX command line, but not so much with Ubuntu. |

Oh by the way I'm sum-what familiar with UNIX command line, but not so much with Ubuntu. By the looks of it if you're using the latest ubuntu and wine somethings gone wrong somewhere, by default wine should open windows executables automatically. Might be worth right clicking the exe, clicking "Open With Other Application...." and then selecting "Wine Windows Program Loader" and checking "Remember this application for "DOS/Windows Application" This should also tell future executables to open in wine. There is an alternative; you can navigate to the folder in the terminal and type "wine EVE(etcetera)" and that should open the exe in wine so long as the wine install was ok. (For the record if you're new to the command line you can use the tab key to auto-complete file names while typing, makes some things a lot easier :) ) Hope this helps Laice
Yep, it is the newest version of Ubuntu and It is defaulted to run through wine, yet it gives me that error anyway.
I wasn't aware that Ubuntu would recognize a .exe without wine. |

That got me past that error, but now I have developed a new problem. I had this same problem with Wine in Fedora.
It says that "The downloaded data package seems to be corrupt, ..."
I click 'Yes' I wish to repair and it fails to repair. I click 'No' I do not wish to repair and the installation fails.
Am I going to have to download the full installer? |

OK, I checked that out and it took me a couple minutes to realize that winetricks was a program. Somehow I thought you were using some mysterious Linux guru wine powers...
At this point I am using winetricks to install Eve Tyrannis from there I will attempt to patch it to current referring to the previusly linked forum.
Thank you so much! |
