Are you a real life woman playing EVE-online? If so I would like to hear from you.
Mostly I would like to hear your thoughts about what it's like to be a girl playing EVE. Do you feel it's dominantly a man eat everything society? Or do you think women are equally represented?
How long have you been playing Eve? What do you specialise in? Do you run/own/organise a corp?
Let me know! http://www.eve-tribune.com/

I haven't played long (2 months), so its hard to say if its completely male dominated. I'd be surprised if it was more-so than other MMO's. (I used to play WoW for reference, *hides*) From the forums it seems that male influence is much higher, but its like that for most games. In game I feel it evens out a bit. Although its sometimes difficult to tell gender. But if you're having fun and they're a nice person, it doesn't matter. (I know of many women who play male avatars from WoW)
As for what I do, I'm looking to get into the Recon/ Covert-Ops racket. Or Electronic Warfare. Both seem more interesting than directly fighting or mining. Also I do Roleplay. I'm not running a Corporation right now, and have my eye on a few that I'd like to join.

If my wife has been good I let her play eve while dinner is cooking. That is assuming she has already completed all her other jobs.
She hasn't got time to read the forums.
Luckily for me. |

i have played eve for about 2 years+....my first year or so i played on an male avatar...couldent afford a "real" account for me so my bf allowed me to use his while he was in the army.
i dont think there really is much differense between beeing a male,or female player in eve...exept for the trust issues...the reason i say that is only from my personal exsperiense.i have had my share of "*******s"..the classic nice guy "i only want to be your friend" type of thing that turns out to send you naked pictures of him self or begging for cyber. which is the reason i would never accept beeing a ceo or leader or anything...you never know if your members/others are only taling with you/agreeing with you because you are a female and they want something else,or because of the fact that a good ammount of eve players just cant respect a female telling them what to do. atm im just an director, and the other directors/ceo/members,love to disagree with me so i dont have any problems with them flattering with me luckely;)but i have been told before, and im sure i will hear it many times more..that im only an director because of my bf,and or because im a female, and it has nothing to do with me beeing able to do my job right. simply..it depends to much on the people you are arround..everyone is different..so cant really give an "real" answear on if men are the ones in "charge" everywere..:)
and im a full time miner/industrialist;)
hope this could be to any help.
regards NC

You had bad experiences with women-only groups? Why that? I am also part of the wgoe and believe me, the girls are really nice :)

Its not something I'm prepared to discuss on a public forum. But I'll take a look tomorrow when I'm back at a computer that can play Eve. (On the road, on my Apple laptop currently)

Thank you NC and JT for your feedback. I hope to hear from more women out there playing EVE. Hopefully there is more then just us three.
I find it funny that the minute I stick a post up regarding women, suddenly a bunch of men have to come in and go "OoO! Goodie! Women, women! BrainzzZZzz". Take a nap guys please it'll do you some good.
Night Crawler I have also been in the game getting on 2 years and I have experienced some of the things you mention. I've been in four corps and three of them have been all guys. Though while mining I like the company of the guys coz the chats are always funny. :) I've only had one guy be a bit too sinister for my liking. But generally I don't have too many problems. I just make sure I make it clear where the boundaries are. And if I see that they're not respecting that I go into ignore mode.
As for the hairdo.. I never thought about it. :D Kind of funny lol

im sad to say that the only time i have even tryed to join one of the "females only" chans i were refused.im guessing it was because i then were still at an male avatar and i had no way to proove that i was a real female. after that i just sort of..gave up on that project and sticked with the corp members and the girls there:) also used to have one friend that joined a corp were there were a good ammount of other girls..she was a mute,so she couldent talk on vent/ts,which resulted in her getting trash talked and after a while, leave the corp and then the game.which is another thing that made me back off even more of the idea of joining somewere with only females. again..everyone is different...some males are easyer to trust and some are *******s..some females are easyer to trust or are *******s
this isent ment as an offense against anyone btw..just my thoughts/exsperienses
ohh should add..i was actually invited to a chan like this once...to bad that i knew the guy from when he was using his main, and he then had told me that he were a guy in real life and married...so his "its a chan were we girls can play around and have fun" comment dident exactly tempt me to much:)

But in all seriousness, why should it matter?

yea beeing around so many men can get rather fun:) atleast when new members get over the fact that they have to be nice and polite since its a female around..:) as long as they show respect and kep it as a joke, they can say more or less whatever they want to me.. /me looks at hunter... they know they will get be missing some jewels if they go to far since my bf is in the corp and trigger happy;) and ofc..its a really nice feeling that 40 strong brave men will do anything to protect the poor little girl:)

Who gives a crap if more males play this game than females? I just find it more of a challenge that way. :/
I've been in EVE for ~2 years. I specialize in PvP. I used to help run a corp but joined another with some friends instead.

I don't know where you get that impression from. I've read every post on this thread so far and nobody has got over-excited about it being a thread about women, they've just come here to air their views.
It's unfortunate if you think that a thread about girls should only be responded to by girls and any guys that talk in here are just getting over-excited because that's a fairly narrow-minded approach to the subject and would seem that you may have set up this thread expecting that response from male players - though i don't believe that's the case. I think it's better we hear from men's experiences of females in the game too as it gives many different perspectives.
Anyway, i know a few female players in the game and i like them being around because it improves the game experience in my opinion. From what i have seen, the three women i know (Shira, Amia and Cerys) are all just as good at PvP as us guys - in fact, probably all three of them are better than me.
I've spoken to them a fair bit and they just generally fit in very well with the alliance and are great fun to talk to and have a laugh with, so yeah, i'm glad there are females in my alliance and my experiences have been very positive. Although it's sad to hear about those guys that try it on and pester women in-game because it's just not fair to them.

I agree with the above. The conversation's been very civil.
And just to put in something, I know that gender will always be a curiosity because society focuses so much on it. (As well as one's place within it) So these threads are understandable as one gender is the minority. People just want to know about this topic. I have no problem sharing my thoughts because gender is a huge part of our lives.
But I dislike women who treat all guys as knuckle dragging and horny. Maybe its a belief that comes after years of feminism; that we're given a certain leeway in how we speak about men, because we've lived under so many stereotypes. But that's just flipping the problem around. If we really wanted to taken seriously, we should take our male counterparts seriously.

Edited by: Spenz on 24/06/2007 01:48:00 Ok Im not a chick, but Im gonna put my .02 isk worth in.
I like female gamers not because they are 'gurlz', but because I like seeing a long standing barrier being broken. Cant really put it any other way than that. Stereotypes are lame and its nice to finally see that ANYONE regardless of gender can enjoy the (sometimes) wonderful world of online gaming.
However, remember stereotypes are just that, stereotypes. They do not equate into fact, so even though the female gamer stereotype is false, so is the 'every gamer male is a hormonal teenager who wants fornication' stereotype.
It also appears that female gamers make up the majority of players in MMO's. At least that is what I gathered from a study that said 2/3 of all MMO players are female. Who knew.
If I had an Alt I would probably post with it... |

QFT.
And, so that I actually contribute something to this thread: Do I think the world of eve online is a male orientated one? Most probably, although there is definitely a fair amount of women in this game.
As for your comment regarding previous male posters, that has to be the most arrogant and derogatory post in the thread tbh. From what I can see they were posts intending to be of comedic value, and were not in the vein of "Duh.... Woman... Me want! Ugg!" in the slightest. Look outside your narrow viewpoint of the world, you'll find that men can be intelligent and not entirely driven by their genitals. ----------------------------------------------

I have had more than a few female friends in other MMO's and never once have I tried to 'cyber' them. The main reason I have had female friends I feel is that the actual 'chat' is more mature and witty, there have been a few instances of what you might call 'flirting' maybe (if you can even do that online ) but 'cyber', well if someone tried to 'cyber' me I think I would just laugh.
