Edited by: Jaabaa on 25/06/2007 17:20:24 This is just an alpha version, but there's a lot already working and I would like some feedback.
EDIT: You need MIDP 2.0 and CLDC 1.1 for it to work.
You really need a device with a pointer atm, but support for "normal" phones is in the works.
It uses the new XML API to do the business, so you'll have to get your limited key onto your phone somehow, I used a plain text file that I copied to the file system, then cop/paste.
To load/update characters you still have to go to the account screen and select "Load/Load Charaters", I'll add this to the main list soon.
It also has support for waking up before the skill completes, although this is a really new bit of code and I'm not sure if it works as it should.
Known issues are:
* Not everything can be accessed without a pointer (touch screen). * Number formatting has to be done * No way of manually creating or editing characters, their skills or implants.
Let me know what you all think, enjoy
You can grab the files here:
Online installation (not tried it but it should work): http://go-dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/DAW/evemsp.jad
JAR file for manual installation: http://go-dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/DAW/evemsp.jar
EDIT: You need MIDP 2.0 and CLDC 1.1 for it to work. |

No idea, try it and let us know
The application is now updated and in it's current state can be considered a mobile monitor, because I have to implement the untrained skill tree browser.
So as it stands, you can download, view (just about) everything, and I have implemented the code for non pointer devices, so it should work happily on normal phones too, oh the names and skill groups are now sorted correctly too .
I would really like some feedback on the current state of development, if it works on your phone/device, what you think could be/should be changed, etc..
The update (now 2.0.64) is available at the same link as in original post.

I'll have to test it on smaller screens, figure out a way to make it take up less space.

It might be the speed of your phone, it might have still been loading/filling the database in the background.

This works fine for me, try the next version when it comes out and please let me know if this persists.

Correct

Originally by: Max Kentarii
When I exited the program and didn't allow the application to start up during alert, it threw a "java.lang.SecurityException".
OK, I might not catch that there.

I'm still kinda dumbfounded on how I download/switch between characters from the 3 chars on my account. As of now, the home-page lists only 2 of my 3 chars. At first, it only listed 1.
At start up, allow the app to load the characters, I have a fix in the works for this which should add characters to the main screen as they are being loaded.
Originally by: Max Kentarii
The screen resolution of 128x128 on this old cellphone makes it hard to use this application. Text kinda runs off the screen and numbers overlap graphic elements.
As I said to Max Kentarii, I'll have to test it on a smaller display.

I don't see any entries added to calendar or ToDo - might the phone not fullfilling requirements - it wakes up the application correctly though
[Edit] Just had a thought and haven't tried it out, yet - missing entries might have anything to do with my phone set to Danish instead of English?
I have only started work on the PIM integration, the first part was finding out what categories are available. It doesn't actually add any entries yet. |

Originally by: Nevets Namro I'm not sure what my problem is. I'm using a Cingular (AT&T) 8525. I get it to download, install, and even run. I go to menu then manage accounts, put in the name, ID, and the limited key and hit save. Once I hit save the screen just turns white. I can close the program but it seems to still run in the background until I go into the midlet manager and actually stop it. I can then open the program back up without any problems unless I try to go to manage accounts but I don't have anything showing up on the character sheet. I have tried reinstalling it and double checking the ID and Key multiple times.
Never tried going back to the main screen without loading the characters, I'll check this out if it is a problem. |

Edited by: Jaabaa on 29/06/2007 20:28:56 2.0.68 is up for testing.
Added/Fixed:
- Start of skill details
- Characters are loaded and sorted on start, ALWAYS.
- Possible issue with too many threads resolved.
- Numbers are now formatted.
- "Found a typo: "Deleter Characters", fixed
To do:
- Add option for small font on mini displays (will be quick hack until I sort out the layout)
- App no longer resets implants during online update, I have to add an option so that when CCP adds implant information again that this behaviour can be manually switched off.
- Still add untrained skills view ...

Maybe Windows Mobile has a problem, the application is doing nothing special.
I have an update 2.0.71 ready for release, but there appears to be a problem uploading files atm, but as soon as that works again, I'll get it up.
There is a problem in 2.0.70 whereby changes in skill training were not being saved at program exit, well to be honest (and more exact), no changes to any data were being saved at program exit |

Very weird, it shows your character as being there, and loaded, but it isn't appearing on the character list.
I'll look through the code, to see if there is something that could possible be causing this, maybe something like your character having an unpublished "character generation only" skill. |

Hi Shinzann,
I assume that you meant this application and not the V1 stuff.
The reason that it is in there is for the Mobile Manager which is part of the suite. If you are only using the skill planner application then the limited API key is quite sufficient, you don't need to enter the full API key if you don't want to. -- EVE Tools for cell phones and Windows/linux/Mac systems http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

I think that the blackberry uses some other kind of "J2ME" system that isn't 100% compatible with Sun's standard. It looks like they have their own standard for accessing stuff.
Also, any applications accessing things like the web have to be signed with a special key that you have to get from them. The signing key costs $100 but I'm not prepared to pay that just for this application. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V2 http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

Wow. Sorry about that. On my phone I am asked if I want to keep the old record store when upgrading to a new version of the same suite. I wonder if I'll have to keep the version number the same on BB devices, to stop this happening, or if the BB's have a general problem in this area ?

I've got the OK from Sony Ericcson to include some of their example code into EMSP.
Quote: No problem to use it at your own risc for a free Open Source project.
So the stuff that the BlackBerry users have been seeing will be released to SVN tomorrow.
If you want to try it on you phone now you have to direct your mobile to http://www.alexalas.co.uk/EMSP/emsp.jad to install it OTA (On The Air).

That is unfortunate since I am unable to install the application via the .jad file as I mentioned a few posts above. 907 Invalid COD error. Hopefully, you can figure out what exactly the problem is since I'm a bit clueless to the situation.

any help?
I'll try and explain how the OTA installation works.
Normal J2ME Phone (i.e. not a Blackberry) 1) Open the phone's browser and set it's destination to http://www.alexalas.co.uk/EMSP/emsp.jad. 2) The Phone should ask if you want to install the application. 3) The phone finds the entry "MIDlet-Jar-URL: emsp.jar" 4) The jar (http://www.alexalas.co.uk/EMSP/emsp.jar) is download and installed.
Blackberry (OTA) 1) Open the BB's browser and set it's destination to http://www.alexalas.co.uk/EMSP/emsp.jad. 2) The BB should ask if you want to install the application. 3) The BB finds the entries "RIM-COD-URL: emsp.cod" and "RIM-COD-URL-1: emsp-1.cod" 4) The CODs are downloaded and installed.
Blackberry (Desktop install) (This is where RIM get silly, the ALX file looks for the COD files zipped into a single COD) 1) Download the following 3 files: http://www.alexalas.co.uk/EMSP/emsp.alx http://www.alexalas.co.uk/EMSP/emsp.cod http://www.alexalas.co.uk/EMSP/emsp-1.cod 2) Add the 2 cod files to a new zip file (emsp.zip) 3) Move/delete the downloaded COD files 4) Rename emsp.zip to emsp.cod 5) Proceed with desktop installation using the alx file
Hope this helps. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V2 http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

Hopefully this will help in the debugging process. I've also given ESMP full access to the provider internet service, so that shouldn't be an issue. Only other bit i have to offer is that my BB is connected to a BES. Not sure if that will make much of a difference though.

Does the above post by Eltee Kantanamee help any ?
Unfortunately, no =( His error was beyond the point of installation and was occurring when trying to run the application. I am not able to even install. When I direct my browser to the URL, the BB asks me if I would like to download the .jad, I proceed and it mentions that there is no signature and asks if I would like to proceed. I say yes, then it pops up a message saying download error and gives me a choice of 'OK' and 'Details'. All details mentions is 907 Invalid COD.
God damn it, these BlackBerries will cost me something.
Please ask Jay Deah how he got it running, because I don't have a BB device and as far as I know I am doing everything correctly for the installation on these supposedly J2ME devices (that aren't because the want as "COD" file, like what ?)
I'll be more than happy (and greatful) to a Java developer with a BB device that is ready to answer the "BB special exceptions at offset NNNN" because RIM isn't prepared or willing to stick to the J2ME standards.
Until that time, you will have to live with the fact that "Jay Deah" can install the application and use it on his BB and you can't.
It's not like I'm being paid by RIM or CCP to do this.
As such, as of now, BB support for "jmsp" on the BlackBerry () platform is discontinued until a BB developer joins the project and makes themself responsible for the BB builds.

Hi, thanks for the comments.
I've just uploaded 3.1.2 which contains a fix (hopefully) for the time zone problem when adding a skill completion event to the calendar.
There is now an additional option "Fix Timezone" which should, if it does what its supposed to, correctly add the event to the calendar.

Do you have your home time zone set correctly on your phone ?
I switched the time zone on my phone to New York, and when I added an entry it changed the completion time to match.
So I see that it works for me, I guess I'll have to add an additional information page to the application to display things like current time zone. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

Maybe the phone has a buggy timezone implementation, I say that because Mastari Doofoff has exactly the same phone with the same problem.

Ah, if the banner isn't even showing local time then I think that something has to be wrong with the timezone information that the phone is passing to EMSP.
The banner has always displayed the correct time for the phone's locale, but some calendars don't have the PIM API implemented correctly for timezone stuff.
It looks like I'll have to add an optional timezone offset entry to fix this. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

Maybe asking the BlackBerry experts about the 7130e and it's failings will get you further than asking the EVE mobile community about why it doesn't work on this device.
I think it might be a generic device problem (possible firmware update?), a carrier issue (too stupid?) or a company policy issue (too restrictive ?)
But I am sure of one thing, your issues are not directly or indirectly related to EAMS or it's coding.

In your position I would ask on the RIM forums about J2ME applications and any known problems and possible work arounds for your device.
Sorry I can't help you any more than this, but I don't have a RIM device. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

I'm totally lost on how to install it on my treo 800w. It's windows mobile 6.1. I tried installing OTA but it just downloaded it instead. Then I tried downloading all the files under that link and there is no file to install it. Sounds like an awesome program, but I just can't for the life of me figure out what I need to do. Help would be greatly appreciated.

You both should only have to point your phone's browser to http://www.alexalas.co.uk/EMSP/emsp.jad and then your phone should ask you if you want to install the application.
If you want to do it manually, using a local installer then you'll need to download the jar and the jad file to the same directory and then install from there. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

Do you mean that other apps, not EMSP, don't handle the touch screen correctly or that you have problems with EMSP not reacting correctly ?

It would appear that your provider is intercepting the request and assuming that EMSP is a web browser. I saw that on my provider to start with, they were asking if I wanted to use a page optimizing proxy or something.
Try going to EO with your mobile phone's browser and let your provider ask their question, cause I think integrating an "In EMSP Browser" would be asking a bit much -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

A quick google search shows little that makes sense (to me, anyways)... Jaaba, did the content patch also result in an API update in such a way that it's pushing out new data that legacy versions of EMSP don't know how to handle?
The message would indeed suggest that CCP have changed the contents, I'll look into this at the first opportunity.
EDIT:
Just had a quick look at the XML.
CCP has added cloneName, cloneSkillPoints, corporationRoles, corporationRolesAtHQ, corporationRolesAtBase, corporationRolesAtOther and corporationTitles to the content.
As a "quick fix" I'll make EMSP just silently ignore those fields instead of displaying an alert.

1. Download the new file on your phone's browser 2. Install and accept as a trusted app, overwriting the existing version. 3. Reboot the phone 4. ??? 5. Profit!!
Just kidding, the phone even saves your API settings so as to not have to re-enter it. After that, just update your char profiles, and you should be fine. Post here for additional questions/problems.

Originally by: DES0LATI0N I have a blackberry 8100 and like most I encountered the 907 invalid COD error. But I found a solution which I wasn't able to recreate until recently. The problem was that I was not using blackberries standard browser, because I was using my media plan + opera to access the internet. (Why pay 30 when you can pay 15) Anyways, the draw back is that the blackberry browser seems to handle alx files or interpets these two cods in one combos, so when I try to OTA it media net attempts to do it and fails miserably. (thus the 907 invalid COD) So what I did was use the original files which were posted which contained the Cod,jar cod-1 and alx. I looked at the alx and it only seemed to install the first cod but not the cod-1 version and so I altered it via wordpad to target both and install. I used the desktop manager and it worked!(exact instructions how out to use/ where to find blackberry desktop manager can be found via google)
But now that you have upgraded I can't find these files and it would be great for us that can't OTA if they were made available. I hope above information allows others to get through the 907 cod problem. Hopefully it's a fix that will work for more then just me.
You can now get the above files at:
http://thearnoldproject.com/emsp.alx http://thearnoldproject.com/emsp.cod http://thearnoldproject.com/emsp-1.cod
I don't have a BB and based on what you said these would appear to be the files that you are looking for to upgrade your device.

So how to install and run it on HTC phones?
1) Download : IBM MIDP 2.0.
2) Copy to your mobile phone, run and install it.
3) Download : emsp.jad and emsp.jar.
4) Copy them both to your mobile phone and put them to the same folder. That means they will be for example \My Documents\emsp.jad and \My Documents\emsp.jar.
5) Run the midlet manager you installed (Start -> Programs -> IBM MIDP 2.0)
6) Button Install (left function key)
7) Type in path of .jad file (\My Documents\emps.jad) and press Ok. You will be asked if you want to install untrusted application so just click through that.
8) Once completed esmp will be listed in Midletapplications so just run it (Actions -> Launch).
9) First go to options (double taps of stylus are required here) and choose "Change back key" now press button which will do function Back (works same way as back in your web browser). Unfortunately function keys cannot be set (i used left "arrow" instead). I suspect this is not bug of the program but IBM MIDP is blocking them form such actions. I was able to set left action button as back button in Java Intent. Set any other option you need in options.
10) Select Accounts and Create. Name of the account i did put the same as i really have, i don't know if this affects functionality in any way. User ID is 7-digit number that you can see on your API page. Limited API key you will get on the very same page as you obtained ID. I filled API manually but it might be possible to use MyMobiler which is freeware remote desktop for WM devices (you must have ActiveSync installed in order to use this) and just copy paste from your desktop PC. I will test it a bit later.
11) Full API key is not required so use it if you want.
12) Choose Load. You will be asked if you want to allow the application access the internet. Select yes and continue. Watch out here you MUST have GPRS/EDGE/3G already connected! You will receive an error :
javax.microedition.io.ConnectionNotFoundException: Host lookup failed: api.eve-online.com - Authoritative Answer Host not found
If you receive this, close the EMPS and run it again. You GPRS/EDGE/3G should be active from previous try so just navigate to button Load and click it again.
13) You should be able to see info.
PS. I can test some more stuff on HTC if someone requests it :).
Great information and a nice walk through on setting up EMSP on these devices. Thanks. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

Hi,
I've just put version 3.3.1 up for download.
Now that SourceForge supports the correct mime types I am now also able to release it from there
So, whats changed:
- Skill list fixed for characters with less skill groups than the display height.
- The skill ticker now only repaints its own area which should improve the responsiveness.
- The skill information now shows the skill's rank and the primary and secondary attributes.
- Added emsp-local-bb-install.zip which includes all the files for a local installation from the file system to a BB ( I hope :D ).
So all you should have to do is point you're device at http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/emsp.jad and you should be able to update.
If you need the local installation option for your BB, you can down load the files here: http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/emsp-local-bb-install.zip.

The "Back" key is device specific. I have it hardcoded into the code for my phone and if I knew the key code for the BB (and how to 100% identify a BB) then I would add the appropriate code too.
As it stands, others have suggested setting the back key in EMSP's options to "Delete" (if my memory serves me right, or was the "Escape" key ?). -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

Correct, EMSP respects the cachedUntil field (part of the character information) before allowing you to query the server again.

I'm getting the same. I've triple checked my api's and they are good.

I went into Eve, and set my character to start training a skill. I logged out of Eve, loaded up the app on my Centro, and it says no characters are currently training. The "Update" option under my character is currently greyed out.
Part of the data that comes from CCP is a "cached until" entry, so update is disabled until then.

Also, I get a "Skill ID "3445" not found error when I first loaded my character into the application.
3445 - BLACK MARKET TRADING, character creation skill (or maybe just rare ?) I think and its not in there yet, I'll add it in the next release.
Here is the information I could find about it: Skill: Black Market Trading ID: 3445 Rank: 2 Primary attribute: willpower Secondary attribute: charisma Required skills: - Trade: 2 - Retail: 2
Could I please get confirmation that this information is correct ?

From this last download (Apocrypha) the times for learning any level of skills is incorrect:
Cloaking L2 - Pre Apocrypha = 4d - post Apocrypha = 2d 18h.... Small Energy Turret 5 - pre Apocrypha = 4d - post apocrypha = 2d12h....
(FYI: I have written down 30 or so skills {that I'm interested in getting to L4 or L5} where the difference is completely wrong for every level of skill since the Apocrypha release).
Looks like something is going on here...
Yes I have respec'ed the stats for one point on two stats and Eve Online reports a difference of two hours at best, not two days as EFT reports...
Can you have a look at this?
I can give you my stats if required for manual calculations...
EDIT: I wish the post apoc EFT times were true... I'm currently saving approx 200 days on my current skill plan!
I just checked with my skills and all the calculations match.
How do the times that EMSP presents compare to those in EVE ?
Did you remap your attributes in game ?

When EMSP contacts the EVE server the response contains a "cacheduntil" field and the update/load option is disabled (greyed out) until this period has past.
As for the extremely bad responsiveness, I have heard a few people saying that it can be sluggish but I've never heard of it being so bad that people have to wait literally seconds before they get a response. |

Indenting is a problem because screen space is something most mobiles don't have a lot of.
Maybe a slightly different background colour on the groups/skills ?
Originally by: Falagarius Also, what does the option "fix timezone" do?

I've had a look at the relevant code and the only thing that I can imagine is that you have entered an invalid code for your "limited access" key (maybe a blank) and put the right code in your "full access" code. There is a small difference in the validity checking of these 2 routines that might lead to the 521 failure that you are seeing.
As a short stop solution, I can only suggest that you try and reenter your limited api key and full api keys again. If you don't feel happy with this, then uninstalling (and deleting the data when possibly asked) and then reinstalling EMSP and reentering your complete data again.
Sorry I don't have a more precise answer but I'm just going by what you said and the code that has been released. I hope that this helps. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

What do?
This thread has +25 pages and +700 posts.
I don't have a blackberry but I'm sure that the "tunnel" problem was addressed multiple times.
I you can't be bothered to read the thread then I'm sure that more EMSP users can't be bothered to answer your post.

while updating each character for the first time using limited api on a blackberry curve 8330. Worked ok after that though.
Think it's happening when it's getting the current skill training or shortly afterwards.
I'm getting the same error after a first time load with the API's. but after Training a skill it didn't update and i cannot use "load'. the version i am using is 3.6.1 and i'm using a Blackberry Tour 9630.
I think that the NullPointerException only happens during the initial load of an account when there is a character on the account that doesn't yet have an image available via the API (same source as the forum's avatars). I haven't had the time to analyse this yet though.
Regarding the "Load" option being disabled, CCP includes a "cached until" field in the data that they send to client applications and EMSP respects this limit and disables the option until the cache limit has expired.
You can also select a character in the list and select "Update" which will update the information for that character only.
You can find more information about the EVE API on the EVE Development Network's site, on the linked page there is also a column describing the caching policy of the various calls.
I hope that this helps.

I can point you to TheLung's post which contains loads of BB related information.
According to Darkeen you have to update the OS on your device.
Maybe (hopefully) something in one of these posts will help you sort out the "tunneling" issue that you have. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

Originally by: Epae Woewig Ok, i've read through a ton of pages, i can see in the very beginning others seemed to have a similar problem, but i cannot find any post about it being fixed.
I've downloaded and installed this on a Samsung S8000 Jet. Added API keys correctly and loaded the accounts. Under each account, there's a list (name only, under the api key) of the chars available on this account. However, when i then go back to actually i see NO chars at all. Just a blank screen. Buttons are there, and i can choose Options, Accounts or Quit... or Back.
Did this ever get fixed, that despite successful API download, the chars are just not visible?
After loading the account, all the characters 'should' be visible in the 'Characters' option.
I don't think that any even remotely similar to this has ever been reported before. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

Originally by: Chuck Nova I've been using EMSP for about a year on my Nokia 5800 and it's been great, but since I switched to a HTC HD2 I've noticed a feature missing.. On the 5800 I could "add to calendar" and an appt/reminder for the skill completion would be added - separate to the wake up option. On the HDA2 there is no "add to calendar" option, only the wake up.
Have I done something wrong with my OTA JAR installation (JAD didn't seem to work) or is this just a limitation of the phone?
Thanks, great app btw!
EMSP checks the device for FileConnection and PIM API (JSR 75: PDA Optional Packages for the J2ME(tm) Platform) and only adds the calendar option if a device supports it.
After a quick google, it appears that the HTC HD2 doesn't have support for this API, so it looks like you're out of luck on this device .
Glad you like it btw

Update...figured out you can set the back button...but you cannot set it to the actual back button on the Bold...the program doesn't seem to recognize the existence of the back button at all.
Try "Left" on your joy-stick thing, "Left" should always go to previous menu. If you have a touch screen, then a tap at the top (in the title area) should do the same. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |
