I have read the Dev Blog and patch notes and searched the site a number of times for some information, but thus far I've come up empty. Hate to crowd the boards with something that might already be here, but... I just gotta know!!!
With the addition of the new scanner feature in Rev II (short-range though it may be), I find myself wondering...
Does scanning for these Escalation sites work the same as the Directional Scanner?
That is to say... I just have to tool around and keep scanning different solar systems until I find one?
If so, the short range of the new scanner would mean that in the larger systems, I wouldn't be able to warp around to cover the whole area, right?
Cripes, that's like five versions of the same question-- I hope at least one of them makes sense. Heh. |

In difference to the directional scanner the "new" scanner has no direction, it takes 30 seconds to complete the scan and it's chance based if you will find the sites.
I think the places you can find with the "new" scanner are called encounters.
In order to cover an entire system you will have to warp around to different objects and repetedly scan.
Good luck

also the chances to find escalading encounter with the onboard scanner is very slim -- Tempus fugit -- |

I'm sure I read somewhere that you'll only be able to find 1/10-2/10 equivilant encounters... for any real challenge your just going to have to bump up your science/probing skills. Doesn't take that long really? :S

Here is the exploration guide thread. The new scanner will only be good for finding easy encounters / sites that won't reward you very much if at all.

Yeah, I've not found one yet .. anyone have any idea what the frequency is? 1/10? 1/100?

more like 1:1000 or worse, better use scan probes and the right ship. to give you some numbers afair the easy sites have a sig radius of 1000. -- Tempus fugit -- |
