Just hitting three years old now, my question to you guys with the monster 8800's and Dual cores: do they actually make that much difference to Eve?... In theory the thing barely uses the potential of any graphics card of today, and having a dual core CPU?...
Just wondering because I'm getting upgrade itches. To be honest Eve is all I care about, so a monster upgrade that doesn't vastly improve Eve, would not a happy Gabriel Karade, make... ----------

For the curious - heres a screenshot of EVE running in fullscreen via coherence mode on parallels - OS X (the semi fullscreen allows me to have my OS X menu bar in the top which I prefer):
Screenshot
Two of the graphics errors are visible on that shot - notice the all white progress bar on the can and the cargo window and the white background for the character nick in the upper lefthand corner.

Athlon XP2500 (1.8Ghz Barton running at 2.2Ghz) 1Gb Cheap-as-it-comes CL3 PC2700 DDR333 (running at CL2/400Mhz - I'm lucky when it comes to RAM!) 2x 40Gb Seagate (7200rpm 8Mb) RAID stripe 128Mb Radeon 9600 (soft modded, running GPU/MEM at 450/400)
It was about as much bang-for-your-buck as you could get when I put it together. Now it's severely lacking...

EVE runs pretty smoothly all things considered. In fact performance is comparable with my laptop:
P4 3.2GHz 1Gb RAM Mobility Radeon 9200 (eugh) Realtek sound (eugh)
So seeing as the old machine runs EVE as well as my "new" one: I work on the laptop, and have EVE running on the other machine. Yay, I get to work and play at the same time

Copypasta'd straight out of my Xfire profile.
Manufacturer: Dell Inc. Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 2046MB RAM Hard Drive: 80GB + 250 GB Western Digital Video Card: RADEON X800 XT Monitor: 19" flatscreen CRT Sound Card: SB X-Fi Audio [C8E0] Speakers/Headphones: Logitech Z-5500 5.1 surround Keyboard: Dell Mouse: Logitech HID-compliant G5 Laser Mouse Mouse Surface: Razer ProPad Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition
I've had no problems with Eve's audio and the X-Fi yet, surprisingly. And there better not be, it was a damn expensive card by my standards. One of the Fatal1ty Pro cards, I'm quite happy with it.

Run full res fine as with lashings of CPU and RAM spare on a 10MB broadband (Virgin media currently - not reccomended currently) thru a Vigor 2910VG router (I realy do rate these as solid bit of kit www.draytek.com)
Was nice upgrade from my AMD XP2600+ Nvidia 6xxx gfx and only 2x7k 80gb discs and gig ram. Though fleet battles still look the same :|.
PS Dont believe everything you read about raptors and 8800's in toms hardware - no issue here beyond duff Dominator memory. OCZ do some good memory - solid.

CPU: Intel C2D 6400 @ 2.5 GHZ (Slowly ramping up) Memory: 2GB Corsair XMS ( Running underclocked, but much tighter timings) Graphics: 2 7600GT's in SLI (buying a 8800GTS 320 next week) Dirves: 1 320GB western digital SATA, 1 250GB Western digital SATA Case: Antec 900 (ofc) Motherboard: EVGA 680I sli (one hell of a nice motherboard)
This is a work in progress computer, however all that's really left to upgrade buy is a 22" widescreen, the 8800 GTS, and probably some sort of new sound card (Audigy SE at the moment).
I'm very happy with it though, and while the SLI cards don't let me run newer games at max settings, things still look nice. ------------------- Director, KAZO
