What it really comes down to is that EVE-TV, by defenition, is aimed at a very internet-savy crowd.
The kind of people who would never pay for a STREAM without a download option.
It's really simple and I'm confused that CCP won't get that.

What has it got to do with CCP? They don't produce or publish EVETV. _____________________________________________

They have a forum for it, they advertise it in their game startup window, they advertise it on their website, for all intents and purposes, to the outside observer, they run it.

very basic example
look at galactic civilizations II
they made there game have no CD key. No protection Nothing
they were heavily attacked by other game companies and publishers for promoting pirating.
Next week after the game is released, top sales. Top sales for over 3 months overall including the subscriptions.
Even I pirated it with a torrent. It was really cool. so I bought it. you could even download the client off of their website if you bought the game. Unlimited downloads to as many computers as you wanted. free updates. quick e-mail to get your key if you lost it.
almost no protection or identification. and yet it outsold every PC game on the market.
and thus they had the money to release Dark avatar which got a 5/5 on X-play of all shows. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP |

I personally pay for japlipo and download the eps now.
I'm so confused. how does paying jalipo give you guys more money then streaming it through your own system?
I mean... that's like running a gas station and buying your gas from another gas company.
no you buy form the people that sell gas to gas companies or you don't make money. unless you overprice
personally I would love if I could download a torrent (CCP based) and pay 2$ for each show. or untill now if there was a way I could donate 3 bucks for downloading the 3 eps I have. but seeing as you don't offer it. oh well.
whjen it's finally for download, offline. I will gladly pay again. even thought I have 500 J points. and 3 eps.
and I believe you'll find so will most people.
but that's up to the number. in the mean time may I donate 3$ to eve TV somehow?

I am unlikely to stream it for money. I am much more likely to download it for money.
I would definitely do so if I could just have it charged to my account.

Problem being, if you don't pay for EVE TV there won't be any EVE TV at all. If you have a solution for that, I'm all ears though.
Corporate Advertisement I know of a company right now looking for space to advertise and there HQ is based in Iceland. Would make sense that you two could work something out, maybe? The company I work for owns distribution rights in the United States for their productą and I know marketing budget is very plentiful.
I am referring to Icelandic Glacial ... Premium water. If you evemail me in game I have all of the contacts CCP would need to get in touch with Stephan, the owner. Ironically, I had a joking conversation with him while he was at one of our wholesalers about CCP/Iceland. It was all good; you guys are a very known company up there :)
Let me know!

Then why do they advertise it in the game client and have an entire forum on their official site dedicated to it?

What's with all the EveTV hate, Dark Shikari?
CCP supports Eve-Radio aswell who through donated prizes, isk, etc, aswell as some advertising (iirc).
Which is of course quite amusing given a few people in E-R with crushed feelings that like to slag EveTV :) ( Not naming any particular DJs/Owners, etc. ) That's sort of like children fighting. But they're not related, so not CCPs problem. :p
EveTV is several notches above Eve-Radio in professionalism, minus a few whines posted on the forums by EveTV peons.
I personally don't have a problem with CCP advertising the latest community addition to help it establish a loyal fanbase, afterall - It's actually costing EveTV signifigantly more money to produce anything compared to the other organizations, so they probably need a bit more help or it would be a loss to the community in general.
I think most people are just bitter because they haven't been consulted to share their opinions/expertise on the show, atleast this is the case with many of the forum *****s against EveTV, does it apply to you? I don't know, I haven't seen you on air though.
People are just getting their panties all twisted because they're no Stavros. But whining about CCP's assistance selectively seems a bit like distorting the facts?
Oh well, just my two cents.
But if you want to know what I think EveTV needs? MORE STAVROS!

Originally by: CCP Wrangler Well, EVE TV is run by MMM publishing, not by CCP, but what other options are there to jalipo? Anyone knows of anything they used in the past that works better?
It was said in another thread, but it bears repeating as a direct reply to a direct question:
iTunes. It's a pay-per-view service, with non-streamed downloadable content, safely distributed with an industry standard DRM. It is also platform independent, reputable (if you can't trust Apple, who can you trust?), and, importantly, isn't Jalipo. --------

Are you serious? iTunes is a locked system that allows you to use only one manufacturer's MP3 player. Its MP3s are filled with DRM. It sends data back to Apple regarding your listening preferences, essentially acting like a piece of adware.
Apple is just as bad as any other major company out there. They want to make money, and they really don't give a sh!t about you. -------

From what I remember, Apple takes about 30% cut +8% bandwidth (38% total) of revenue for episodes downloaded through them. I dont know how this compares to Jalipo? --------------------------------- |

Take the tin foil hat off. iTunes isn't that bad. Of course it's locked to the iPod for portable devices, did you expect them to support the Zune or something? Second, you can tell it to turn the listening preferences stuff off, it's a very large option in the options menu (and in fact it's not on by default). Third, they are m4p's, not mp3's, and iTunes can still play and manage regular old MP3's and move them to your iPod.
That said, Jalipo is terrible. I bought 1000 Jalipo bucks but I am afraid to go use them to watch EveTV, because every time I do, it tops five minutes in to the stream and I lose all the credits I just used. What a farce. If I've already watched the first five minutes of a stream you shouldn't be charging me to watch it again. That's just ridiculous.

I hope they realize that DRM is no impediment to anyone but the legitimate consumers and avoid it.
If I had to guess I'd say it'll have DRM up the wazoo. -

Kill two birds with one stone...
Talk to Cribba, host downloads on eve-files and make the entire service free by having a tiny amount of everyones subscriptions fund eve-files & eve-tv?
Or is that a little to much like the BBC for everyone?

Yes, because when I buy a piece of music, I expect to play it on whatever I want.
Imagine if you went to Tower Records, bought a CD, and found it would only work in the CD player in a Honda Civic? Are you supposed to buy a Honda Civic to play the CD?

If you were buying a CD that only played in a Honda Civic, I would assume it was clearly marked as such, and you would go in with your eyes open. You would then have every right NOT to buy it (assuming you didnt own a Honda Civic). --------------------------------- |

It's getting old making new email addresses every week.
I don't mind giving CCP money to watch EVETV, I would very much appreciate the opportunity to download and watch-again some or all episodes. I do mind my money going to Jalipo, and would rather they were dropped, the tournament last year was enough reason for me to not use their service again, not to mention their belief that paying fairly high rates(see that cinema comparison) for a stream that cannot be downloaded/watched again is a good idea.

That would be fine if the website who collects the money actually worked. I've tried to add credit and it doesn't work. So I'm off to find episode 1 (I watched ep 2 with my free sign up creds) and 3 somewhere else. I'd be happy to pay. But can't.

HAHA!
I am willing to put $1,000 US dollars in an escrow account, for you Wrangler if in 1 year this 'eve tv' thing is still going.
I highly doubt that this project is running anywhere but in the red.
Edit: Dunce mode deactivated - I called Kieron out there... sorry
