"Allows a captain to better maintain its drones. 20% bonus to drone damage, drone mining yield per level. "
Does this mean that for each level my drones can 'carry' 20% more when it returns to my ship or that the drone's cargo hold 'fills up' 20% faster?
To ask another way, does this skill increase the amount my drone can carry or decrease the duration of a cycle?

Does it make a difference if its referring to either drone capacity or cycle time? In the end, you still get 20% more |

My thinking is that if the cycle is faster, then the drones make more trips back and therefore travel time is a bigger factor. I should park closer to the roid.
If the cargo hold is increased, then the drones make fewer trips back to the ship, and how close I park is a little less important.
In the end I guess its all the same.

Its a 20% bonus to "mining amount" in the drone stats. The cycle time doesn't change. Mining drones don't really have a cargo bay. They operate one cycle at a time, and anything they get they bring to you immediately, then head back for another round.
Keep in mind if your mining high ends that Drone Interfacing 4 & 5 won't do anything if you have mining drone operation 5. Unless your rig for it, but imo they are a waste of CPU. |

Thank you for your reply.
I do have drone operation at 5. I mine in a Hulk in .5 -. 7 space. I won't see any benefit from training Drone Interfacing to 5? I currently have DI at 4.

In empire space it will make a difference, on the high ends in null sec it doesn't because the ores are too big.
Base mining for T2 mining drones is 25m3
ABCs With Mining drones V (req for T2) : DI 3 : 25*1.25*1.6 = 50 m3 50/16 = 3.1 = 3 ore/cycle DI 4 : 25*1.25*1.8 = 56.25 m3 56.25/16 = 3.5 = 3 ore/cycle DI 5 : 25*1.25*2.0 = 62.5 m3 62.5/16 = 3.9 = 3 ore/cycle
Kernite With Mining drones V (req for T2) : DI 3 : 25*1.25*1.6 = 50 m3 50/1.2 = 41.6 = 41 ore/cycle DI 4 : 25*1.25*1.8 = 56.25 m3 56.25/1.2 = 46.8 = 46 ore/cycle DI 5 : 25*1.25*2.0 = 62.5 m3 62.5/1.2 = 52.1 = 52 ore/cycle

Also remember drone interfacing 5 is also good for your defense drones for the rats that spawn. Its a great skill to train, dont think twice about it. |

Especially if you ever want to:
fly drone based ships pvp use a carrier
Drone interfacing essentially results in the equivalent damage of an extra drone for each level, I believe. It's one of those long-term skills that are good to have at level 5. You won't want to mine forever!

If mining lasers don't suffer fallof (ie it doesn't matter what distance you use them from ) and I don't think they do, In theory your always best of sitting as close to 0km from the roid your mining.
To explain, the drones will orbit the roid while mining , so wherever they are on there orbit when they finish there cycle they are equadistant to you. If you sit at 10 km and a drone orbits at 5 km and happens to finish it cycle on the opposite side of the roid form you it then has 15 km to travel, rather than the 5 km if you where hugging the roid. In practice not sure those couple of seconds make much diffrence as is often the case with theories

Less time travelling (for the drones) = more M3/min
However, assuming you're in a barge/exhumer, sitting anywhere closer than ~5KM is a bad idea. |
