i would like to thank ccp for keeping the test server up and running after patch deployments. not only do you get to have pvp for free, there is also consentual combat area, cruiser area, frigate area, bs area, even capital ship area! no podding is allowed so you don't get sent packing like in 0.0 on tq. and there is usually a dev in the system who helps out and keeps everything in order.
probably the only catch is that you have to travel to syndicate. just hop in a shuttle, set autopilot and go afk, no one will shoot you on the way because everyone's there.
test server has showed me how much of a combat noob i am, and i am trying all sorts of setups that would normally cost millions even billions of ISK on tranquility. thank you ccp When able to attack, we must seem unable; When using our forces, we must seem inactive; When we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; When far away, we must make him believe we |

You do know there is a "moveme" channel. If you go in there a BH/Dev/GM/Mod will move you.

The only problem I have with the test server is how much hassle it involves to acquire faction items. A lot of the setups I want to test pretty much require a certain percentage of my fits to be Faction (Nice one there Chimera/Phoenix CPU issues...) ---

Edited by: syphurous on 05/07/2007 22:22:50 I hate how hard it is to get people to come into highsec for 5 minutes to test something.
The zero risk PvP is nice so I dont have to worry about my carebear status on TQ. ______________________________

What, you can get things free on the test server to try them out?

unless you cant afford 100 isk items
and since hoarding and reselling is against the rules the market is "free"

to get on test server:
make a copy your eve folder, rename it eve2
run eve and select singularity (test server) as the server you connect to
download and install patch
run. sometimes it messes up the first time you login, just relog. When able to attack, we must seem unable; When using our forces, we must seem inactive; When we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; When far away, we must make him believe we |

Wait, how do I get to these ship specific areas?
When I logged on I was in Motsu and it was dead ass empty. And to boot I couldnt fit my ship because there was a lag between TQ and Sinq which means what I had trained wasnt showing on the test server.
I really want to try out some new ideas but where are all the peeps to pew pew??

As stated it's the "TEST SERVER" not "lets play with no loss server", so many just use it to play so many dont even bother to report bugs or try out anything other than PvP. Every patch we find something that wasn't fixed or bugs that no one bother'd to look for for, too busy trying to pimp out yet another uber ship to pvp.
Would be nice just once for some one to be able to patch (not easy sometimes) and go test, It should be well tested and proven then we get TQ patched. Sadly I cant see it ever happening as the clique who seem ever present just like to blow up things. Last time I managed to patch and get on I was deep south and still blown up "cuz it's the test server" even though I was trying some rigs stacking out, before i had a chance to find what I was looking for pop!

Thing is, the test server is for testing upcoming patch changes, not for testing of personal setups. As a result there is no need for faction/deadspace/officer modules.

Most of the time bugs beeing fixed have been pretested by bug hunters and or QA on other locked test servers, where they actually test if a bugfix works, our test server is also there for stability checking and has massive logging going on server side. Playing there, even just for fun is important and should not be underestimated. Who knows, maybe... just maybe of 500 people having fun there 1 finds a bug, makes a decent report and it can be located and fixed, I would say that 1 was worth it.

No-one shoots you on the way because non-consensual combat is forbidden on the test server (warping to the FFA beacons is consenting to combat).

That would be because it didn't exist a year ago, it's a relatively new addition. Also bear in mind that the channel is not guaranteed to be manned at all times. Being moved is a favour performed when they're on and not busy, not a service you should expect as and when you want it. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

And yet many of those who complain about Eve's PvP model refuse the idea of focusing on playing on the test server only. Such haven for players wanting consequence-free fights.
Too bad the market PvP system is slighly lacking there.

And yet I can't fit a Chimera properly without Faction items, and can't test things such as the Triage Modules properly. Faction items need to get tested just as much as T1 and T2 variants... there have been strange things in the past that have gone on around certain faction items just not doing what they're supposed to. ---
