Hi there. I've been playing Eve for the last 3-4 days and loving it. I'm in a Cormorant Destroyer, loving that as well. In the next week I want to begin training up my skill for my next ship. Problem is I don't know what would be best to get. I've been killing pirates in 0.5 space and selling the loot. I just want to find out opinions on whats the best direction for me to move next. Thanks for any help, and if there's any other information I need to provide let me know.

Destroyers are an odd one out as they are really intended to be a fleet support platform designed to stay back from the main battle line and just take out any frigates and interceptors that dare approach. They just happen to rule level 1 missions and high sec belt rats because those ships are generally just frigate class vessels. Technically you are still in the frigate line when using one.
The next step up from a frigate would be a cruiser (with medium sized modules). Then a battlecruiser(large sized modules), then a battleship.

Save up for a Caracal, you won't regret it.

Cruiser is the obvious next step; with a proper fit an a little care you can kill belt rats down to 0.0. Alternatively, take the frigate back out of your hangar and find a quiet bit of low sec (let me emphasise quiet there!) to kill rats in.
(Larger rats are best dealt with by going in close and orbiting. I know this works down to about 0.3 with a blaster incursus, it should work with a rocket kestrel as well.)
It's worth trying missions if you've not already done so.

If you have only been playing for 3-4 days, don't train up any skils for any bigger ship yet.
I'd suggest you increase your current flying skills. Check out all the skills under Electronics, Mechanic, Engineering. Increase skills that will help you shields or cap regen or damage. (You can set the interface to show all skills, even if you don't qualify for them, so that you can see all the future options.)
You will have plenty of time to train up to the basic cruiser once you have some flying skills. The real threat is that you jump into a cruiser and get a few blown up because you don't have good skills. Do some more ratting, try some missions and wrack up a few more SP.
That being said. If you really, really, really want to get into a bigger ship and don't mind losing it try a caracal as other's suggested. The missile ships take the least SP to fly effectively in PvE.

Your next ship should be a caracal - as mentioned above. Good dps, good range.

depending on skills/fitting you can get your caracel to do 50km+ kills. Once you get higher skills and better gear it will go up from there. Be advised that with that kind of fitting, frigs are a PITA and you need to have drones/friends around ususlly. Whoa dude listen to this guy. I have been playing six weeks, and I just trained up to Destroyer over the past weekend, and it's because my OTHER skills are up to match it. I can equip a wide variety of good quality modules from ECM to turrets and the like, plus reactor upgrades and Tier 2 electronics upgrades. Soon, I'll be in Tier 2 and cruisers, but I am not in a hurry -- Destroyers rule lowb missions.
Just remember that the ships don't mean very much, it's the skills that let you equip decent modules that matter. Trust me, if you get into a cruiser with crappy fittings, you will lose it, and probably more than once.

You have two choices for your next ship - either the Caracal, or the Moa.
The Caracal is cheaper, uses only missiles (and therefore takes less time to be better at), and is a solid foundation for a future training in a Drake or Raven, or a T2 ship. Do this one if you like missiles, single-weapon systems, or its look.
The Moa, on the other hand, is the more difficult option - more expensive, and due to a split hybrid-missile weapon system takes more time to master, but is stronger and more durable. It will give you a feeling for the Ferox (which really isn't a good ship compared to the Drake), or more importantly a Rokh if you're into railguns - it is pretty ugly though, unless you like abstract art .
Either way, a Caldari cruiser is the next ship class you want to go for.
