I've seen the "I'm going on vacation, i'll lend you isk with 10% interest" etc... Uh...I'm pretty sure it's a scam but how does a loan contract work? Couldn't someone just take a loan, and give all the isk to a main?

I have also seen people trying to do this scam on jita local, but no idea about the details.
Maybe I'll have to bait a scammer to see how they try the trick on me because I can't find anyone that will explain me the trick

I didnt know there was such a thing as a loan contract. But it obviously seems quite scamable by the process mentioned by the OP.
Anyone providing a loan to someone they don't know and has not earned any trust deserves to lose their money, that's my stance.

I haven't seen this one, yet, but I would assume that you'd have to be very careful which direction the isk flows. I can see someone accepting the loan contract only to find that the loan amount came out of their own wallet.
The Eve-Online forums may not have invented whining, but they sure have perfected it.

Originally by: Investigador I have also seen people trying to do this scam on jita local, but no idea about the details.
1. They make a loan of 100 million to you. 2. They make the price 110 million for doing the loan. 3. They 'say' the 10 million is the intrest on top of the 100 price is the interest. 4. in fact, the price is 100 million over what should be charged for a 10% loan.
The effect, immedialty on accepting the loan 10 million is deducted form your account. This is because they 'loan' you 100 million but you pay them 110 million for doing so.
Also, you owe them the original amount of 100 million. So if you accept the loan and finaise it you give them another 100 million.
This works because CCP has morons working in the user interface department which makes these exchanges confusing because of the wording.
It works on the same priciple as the 'Want to sell' scam.
BOTTOM LINE IS TO STAY AWAY FROM ALL 'LOAN' OFFERS IN THIS GAME.
They are scams.

its a scam because they make the loan to be payed back at a set time but this is broken
say you need 100 million
the guy gives you a loan for 100 million to be payed back in 100 days and you pay him back 110 million - your 10%
what ends up happening is that the 100 days is defaulted because it is a lot like repackaging a ship and you pay back as soon as you accept
this is why they ask you to have at least 10 million on you to assure them that you can pay it back
its a scam because of broken mechanics ____ __ ________ _sig below_ the jet cans are made so that people that dont mine can get free ore

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO for gawd sakes!!
110 million is NOT 10% of 100 million. Do I have to post another walkthrough?
Why did you have to post incorrect and bastardised information on how this scam works directly after I posted the correct proceedure?
Your post was redundent in light of my explaination and about as useful as Shadarle's "ummm ohhh... not sure about how it works but I guess its like a bad thing"
It didn't answer the OP's question. It didn't present anything of value to the thread and actually included a whine about how is probably shouldn't be in the game with NOTHING to back up that position.
posts like that serves to do nothing but clog up the forums with useless posts and CONFUSE people so that they are ill prepared to protect themselves from the scam.
If you don't know how it works for a fact... don't bother posting. Especially after it has already been explained in full the VERY POST ABOVE YOURS.
Bah... later today I will be posting a couple guides.
How to 'Loan Scam' properly, and lets all 'Want to Buy' scam together. Will include pictures for the slower among us.
Definative guides as to what they are, how to do it, why it is bad, who is to blame and how to fix it.

You don't know the 1/2 of it.
Try havinhg a conversation with the petition department about anything that involves even the sightest amount of thinking of game mechanics.
The simple truth of thematter is they completely lack the skills to engage in any higher level dialouge or thinking.

There is actually a viable market for Loans but no one has done it yet and I don't have the capital or the resources to start it.
When it was added to the game I played around with it for a while and know what each of the outcomes are depending on what you do and what the customer does.
So not all Loans are scams, the problem is purely understanding. People do not understand the system so they get caught in a scam, those who know how the scam also know how the system can be used to make a viable business.

yes yes yes - this is why they ask you to have that 10% on you because the loan makes you pay the entire 110 back right away

I think you are wording it on a confusing way, SiJira. It's true that those 100mill that you got paid go back inmediately to the loaner's wallet, but not because you "paid them back", but because you paid the interest on the loan.
You *still* have to pay the 100mill back, or the loan will fail and you will get a bad mark on your contract history.
And really, 110mill is 110% of 100mill, I kid you not.

Yes, you are correct. However, 110m is not 10% of 100m like I said previously.
Problem is, it is presented by the scammer and supported by CCP interface as looking like 10% when in fact the scammer is charging you 110% upfront for a loan.
It gets confusing really fast when it simply doesn't have to be. No amout of blaming the user for laziness or not reading the screen or going to fast is going to forgive CCP for crappy user interface design.
I hope you all got a chance to read my complete walkthrough I posted on this subject. it covers it all I think.

What about having a field called percentage, and having to put "10" on that field?
The contract would automatically discount 10% of the loaned money. That would probably be way more understandable.

The loan contracts are for loaning items, not for loaning cash. Set up an item loan, and all the "confusing" fields will make perfect sense.
