Ive been playing eve for about 6 months, but recently decided to start again, as i had a character who could do heaps but nothing well. So now i play gallente, but i cannot decide where to go skill wise. I love drones, because they're easy and i can use t2 lights n meds, but i also love guns, and will probably move up to a megathron one day. i ofcourse will get both skilled one day, but i cant decide which to do first. any and all advice is welcome :)

Gallente are mostly Guns, using drones to complement our damage. You've got t2 med and light drones, that far enough, now train to T2 medium blasters.

Guns and drones are good and all but if you can't stand up to your opponent(s) barrage, you might as well as hit the self-destruct button.
I would recommend getting EANMs II, DC II, and your armor comps up to lvl 4's. It should keep you busy.. Just my 2 iskies.

Drones have alot of firepower for a low investment in SP, but eventually you are going to need to work on T2 guns.
You said your character is 6 months old, wouldn't it be quicker just to respec in Gallante ships, hybrids and drones instead of restarting?

If you have T2 drones (med/light) thats good enough for now. Work on those Blaster Spec skills (dont neglect Rails, theyre useful at times, yeah yeah heresy, oh and Arty skills for some more intersting Drone ship setups) In all honesty, a Myri can pwn 0.0 Rat spawns with decent armor tank skills (still the best BC by far) with T1 Heavy drones, So your good, just start building up those support skills, maybe invest in your favorite ECM module (Sensor damp/ECM/Neut/Nos, etc).
Id also recommend going up to a Domi, its a beast, and can hold its own in almost every situation you'll find. (cheap too =)
But yeah, get those gun skills up, they help =)

Man, I've rarely seen a statement more wrong than that. Gallente are known as **the** drone race.
Personally I think I have the med turret at 3 and almost none of the gun support skills trained. Never had problems with lvl4 mison running in my domi.
Gallente have at least two main paths through their ship lines.
Drone heavy / Rails ishtur iskur vexor domi eos others?
Blasterboats I don't fly them not sure of all names.
Whats best? like all things in EVE it depends if you're talking PVE PVP and you are free to break with convention.

I've found that gunnery requires far more SP than Drones to perform as well as I'd like, while it only takes a few mil SP in drones to get you pretty close to your peak drone DPS. Focusing on drones first allows you to have some fun right away in a Vexor/Myrm/Domi for PvE or PvP, while you train up all those gunnery skills.

I'm a Gallente drone user from Jan 06 and have only just felt the need to decently train up my Gunnery. Drones have always been more than enough for any PVE stuff I do and it's only with an increased likelihood of small gang roaming ops that I feel the need to beef up my gunnery skills. With Gallente Battleship 5 trained the Domi is beast enough without using guns.
I worked on tank, cap, drones and manouverability over anything else for a LONG time. I think it helped me progress decently

If you want to pvp as Gallente do both but do them in stages.
Train for t2 light/med combat drones and decent support skills (4's).
Then train into t2 med hybrids and decent support skills(4's).
Train Battlecruiser to 4.
Then go back and train for t2 heavies and Drone Interfacing 5.
Now start training for an Astarte/Eos.

My advice is just to stick with one or the other at first, then train the second one. For me, I like guns, and I started with good gunnery skills, so I am building those up first. Then I will train up my drone skills.

That more or less sounds like what I'm doing, except replace Astarte/Eos with Megathron/Hyperion, because I think the Domi is ugly and I want to pilot battleships. :P It isn't practical, but at least I'll be beautiful!

Hi all,
i switched early from caldari to gallente ships, coz of the drones, trained almost all drone skills to at least 3 ( only adv drones and fighters are still not learned) Got T2 lht/med drones , but havent got to get my hvy drones up to 5...
Learning Gallente cruiser 5 atm and since that still takes me 6 days out of almost 21 days , its my primary goal... after that spaceship command 5, covert ops 3 and 4, then hvy assault to at least 4 and recon to at least 4 , Doms r nice but i think the hvy assault Ishtar is better coz of lot of reasons... resistance , faster lock ,and if hvy assault skill is at 5 , it has the same big dronebay ...
So if you are gonna use a drone based ship, get your drone skills up first , without it you are gona be dead in the water
after all this is done im gonna up my hvy drone skill to 5 and drone interfacing to 5 , yet aprox another 45 days but worth it.....
By the way, i hav both Dom and megathron, both r great, the dom isnt a beauty to see , i agree , but dang its 375 m3 dronebay is absolutely terror, the mere fact u can have a squad of almost every type of drone , is scary enough for every foe u encounter... I rather have a ship that is functional but ugly than a ship that looks nice but get blown up easy coz it cant support the weaps i use best....

Tank trumps drones and guns, no matter what you do get that 1st. If your PvE then once the tank is up get T2 med drones best bang for buck they can take down rat BS, are fast and don't scatter nearly as much as heavies. Between rail and blaster you will find rails are more tank friendly because blasters need speed to be useful. Blasters will be faster over time but if you can't take them down fast enough better to be safe with a tank that works then a burning wreak.

When you want to be able to use all Drones (Combat, EW, and Logistics) including their T2 variants really efficiently, you need to train up at least around 7 mill SP in Drones. This is nothing what will be quickly just done.
With 7 mil SP in gunnery (or missiles), you will dish out some punch as well...

Train drones and armor tanking first. This will allow you to very effecively use a Vexor and Myrm... Once you have drones/armor tanking up high enough then focus on gunnery.

You can really go drone or gun route, but in the end you'll want both near max.
I started off almost completely drones, got T2 heavies and T2 armor tank. Then went back and got T2 med blasters, and now within the week I'll have T2 Large blasters.
This is just counting my Gallente skilling, as you'll also see me in a Curse or Pilgrim ambushing ratters, or a Raven when I need to kill NPCs in one form or another.
Basically I can fly any T1 non-capital ship with T1 guns at 4 and a T2 tank, save gallente who I can fully T2 fit.

Yup, tank is very important, do not neglect it.
For a newer player, drones seem to give better bang for the buck than guns do. You'll want to get both skill sets up eventually, but I'd spend more time on drones early on.
