Edited by: Bekka Jae on 09/07/2007 23:03:29 Right after the Revelations 1.4.3 patch, I noticed that the voice, music, and some other game audio effects no longer worked when I played. I began playing with the sound off and my own music running, but after a while, I found I missed it. I scoured the forums and found a solution that restored full sound for me (changing the Windows audio acceleration to Basic). Now, I find myself playing with the game sound on unless I'm going into a situation in which combat is likely. For me, it does add an extra dimension to the game that I really enjoy. I also often listen to live streaming audio when I play and sometimes I'll turn the game music off but leave the effects on.
So, my first question is: Do you play with the sound on, off, some on but not all, or what?
And my second question is: Does CCP have plans to address this issue anytime soon? My EVE Blog: Just A Girl And Her Thorax |

Edited by: Del Narveux on 09/07/2007 23:05:55 As I alluded to in a recent trollpost that got taken all too seriously I play with it on whenever possible, but tend to turn it off whenever theres a lot of stuff shooting as it locks the client.
And a while back I heard rumblings about a new sound engine, but havent heard anything discussed about it in several months so it could be soon(tm) or just vaporware.
edit: oh yeah, and I always keep that tripped-out UI voice off no matter what _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

i, milady, use the sound only in the following situations:
1. i am alone in a 1.0 system and my media player decides to crash
2. my speakers are broken
3. i log off

off
fleet battles have enough lag without the sound engine killing more machine resources, poor cpus, think of the global warming issue eve causes! ----- 'The worst spot in hell is reserved for those who betray.'

Sound off always.... when I use two clients and both have sound enabled, I get a hard windows crash within 30 minutes. Too much effort in remembering to switch one on or off each time so I just leave it off.

Errrrm off.
Because when I play, it tends to be for rather long periods of time (3 - 4 hours minimum) and playing that much, the EVE music tends to get very, very, very repetitive. Furthermore, in term of memory usage, Winamp 2.91 rules.

I tend to play with the sound on and music off whenever i can, i find games really boring without sound and it entirely kills the immersion for me, and it would be a complete waste of my fancy pants 7.1 sound blaster otherwise...
I find that i don't get too many problems from it at least not if i sacrifice effects and turrets, and when it does get too bad its only a short cut away to turn it off.
That said, if I know I'm about to go into a medium to large combat I do tend to turn to it off as they can be laggy enough anyway...
And I'm sure the recent upgrade to the new version of fmod (which came out with revalations 2) has helped with the speed a little too |

<Mandatory "Eve has sound?" goes here>
Sound off, always. I tend to listen to music while playing. Also, on the rare occassion I get into some pewpew action, anything non-essential goes.

I love the music, but the sound effects are ... poor, and lag to hell when you're under heavy fire (which is exactly the time you don't want lag). So mostly it's sound off for me.

Edited by: Mari Onette on 10/07/2007 16:40:00 I WOULD play with sound on but by PC BSOD's whenever anyone locks onto me. Playing with basic acceleration disables most of the effects and makes the sound hollow and lame.
CCP has no plans to address the issue and makes no claims towards when/if any audio issues are going to be fixed.
You know CCP, it would have been smarter to make a WORKING sound engine before upgrading the one you had. It's really hard to consider paying for eve voice when you cant even enable the feature.

Same here, i do not like to play games without sound or only running music. So in EVE i have allways sound on and had no problems so far.
