Are there any bonuses besides being able to get salvage from a wreck on the first attempt? It doesnt seem to matter if you equip your salvager ship with 4 salvagers..considering it just keeps trying to salvage until it succeeds.
The only significant bonus i can see is target multiple objects and salvaging them at one time?

1. Improves the % that your salvager will be successful per try, cutting down time (and time is ISK).
2. You can't salvage T2 ships with lvl 1 Salvaging.
3. It's easy to train even for fighting specialized character. ------------------------------- DTK

It's a question of
a) speed - the higher your %, the less you get: Salvage Failed, the faster you get your salvage
b) T2 ships - you'll need at least Salvage 3 to salvage a Domination Frigate for example. Haven't run into anything bigger (yet) but I'd assume you probably need 4 or 5 for a Domination Battleship.
I'm not sure it affects your potential drops but if it does, the higher the better.

Yup you need at least 3 to be able to salvage most wrecks.
At least training Salvage to level 3 goes fast :)

It doesn't. After a certain number of failed attempts the wreck selfdestructs/falls apart.

You can salvage ALL t2 ships with salvage 3. So tecnically you only need that. However, when you DO salvage a t2 ship you will wish for salv 4 or even 5 since it takes bloody ages.

eh, well I have salvage 3...CBA training it higher..more important skills to train. However, with that being said, I've ran into both SS Battleships and DG Battleships and had no trouble salvaging them this is not a signature, whatever anyone has told you is false. look away |

As stated, T2 ships have a requirement of Salvaging 3. If I recall correctly they also have a -10% penalty, or at least the rare belt spawn (Medium Commander Wreck) did when salvaging first came out. I assume that hasn't been changed.

Higher salvage skill = faster salvaging, and less boredom looting.
Also, the faster you salvage, the less cap you'll use doing it, which is unimportant for looting missions but somewhat important when salvaging something in unsecure space. Multiple salvagers eat a surprising amount of cap on frigates, especially if your skills are low. -------------------------------------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales |

I've sucessfully salvaged T2 rats and ships with salvaging at 3. Half of the time I get "salvage was successfull, unfortunatly there was nothing to be salvaged" message though.

As far as I know, he's saying bull****. I've been trying some salvage some wrecks for 5 to 10 minutes sometimes (bad luck strikes perfectly, wreecking for huge waste of time) and got on loot that looked more or less as big as the salvage when I succeeded at first time. However, never I have seen any wreck disappear without me succeeding at the recuperation.
However, wreck do have a limited life expectancy, something like 1 or 2 hours... so it does disappear eventually. But failed salvaging isn't the direct cause of it.
And for the OP : level 2 or 3 missions (all I've done for now) know need more than 1 rank of salvage to get the loot. The loot gets slightly "bigger" as the ship size gets bigger, but consider the following : - lvl 1 mission puts you against as many as 5 to 20 wrecks that are killed in 5 minutes with a decent BC / BS, you can salvage as you kill them. - lvl 3 mission last (at least for me) 30 minutes to 1 hour with 10 - 30 wrecks on average. It may not be possble, depending on your race, to salvage as you go.
Now do the math : even if the lvl 3 mobs give twice more salvage material, the quantity / time ratio doesn't make it profitable. However, money buys salvaging materials too .
I don't know about lvl 4 missions, none of my ships can handle them right now.
