First, thanks to CCP for putting these in, they have awesome stats, and the drop rate is quite appropriate for their ability. Having mortgaged my hulk I have managed to aquire a pair of Aoede and Ingenii upgrades for ore and ice respectively. They are the best mods in their respective areas.
Both are broken. One is broken in a very good way, one is broken in a very bad way.
The Aoede (ore) mining upgrade is broken. Simply Broken. It doesn't work whatsoever. CCP this needs fixing!!!
The unnamed T1 variant still works fine.
Now, the Ingenii Ice Mining Upgrades.. I have heard these being reported as not working, that is not correct, they work and give the bonus as intended. So whats broken? You can OFFLINE these modules and you still get the bonus, but you dont suffer the penalty, not to mention the fairly hefty fitting price of the things to begin with.
Now that is just silly :)
I hope CCP can get around to fixing these, particularly the ore one (I dont mine ice anyway) because I need to start earning back the fairly large (but oh so worth it) cost of buying them.
A lot of people have also been curious as to where these babies come from, and I am going to **** a few people off here by revealing it (already got *****ed at twice in game :D). They come from high sec hauler spawns. Their names are <faction> Harvester and <faction> Gatherer, 'Serpentis Gatherer' for instance. They are fairly rare spawns, which is exactly how it should be. From the limited time I have spent looking for them, and from feedback of others, I would say they are at least as rare as faction spawns, probably a bit rarer. Get your kestrels out and start hunting :)
Now CCP, please when you go to fix these do them both, not just the Ice Mining one, lol.

If memory serve, I believe those mods were turned off, for tweaking.
Fitted on a Rokh with 8 mining lasers, it could out mine a Hulk. So in the end, they came up just a little to good.

If thats the case and they fix them and turn them back on in tuesdays patch, excellent.
It still doesnt explain the Ice Mining 'feature' though.

They will probably end up being stacking nerfed... so they will still function as intended on a hulk or mackinaw, but more than 3 on a BS will be useless (and expensive, at current market prices). -----------------------------------------------

Id prefer they just make it a bonus to strip mining yeild rather than all mining lasers.

Why not do both.
Making them Stacking Nerfed, but give a Role Bonus to all the "Mining" Class Ships (The Mining Frigs and Cruisers as well as all the barges) that Cancels the Stacking Nerf.

Maybe making this:
-20% bonus on stacking nerf of mining upgrades per level of mining barge.

Change it to exhumers. There would be no point in the hulk if it was almost outmined by the coveter.
Originally by: Tuxford I have already expressed my personal opinion on this and it was very positive (something about happy in the pants).

You simply dont have enough skills. I can fit 2 of the worst penalty mining upgrades along with 2 drone mining rigs (cpu penalty again) and still fit a tank.

the mining upgrades are brilliant and such a needed module im thankfull CCP made them. As for them being nerf'd... GOD NOOO!!!!!!!! that would destroy the point of even having!!! these modules in the first place.... i think the suggests already have been quite apropiate... giving them a stacking bonus would be fair, but a special bonus -stacking bonus on all barges and exhumers. Or -stacking bonus to all mining ships. That way even the osprey and other mining counterparts can feel the love without having a stacking nerf to them.
Could even make it so exhumers recieve an adittional bonus without the -stacking penalty so there is no way in hell a rokh could outmine a hulk. Thus solving the problem alltogether.
But please do not nerf any of the stats... that would ruin the module

Edited by: Lord Loom on 21/07/2007 10:00:22 in case you didn't get the memo
Originally by: CCP Chronotis As follow up, the correct bonuses will be applied in Revelations 2.2 (our next static data patch) which will apply to the meta mining and ice harvesting upgrades. They all follow a similar bonus pattern from meta level 1 to 4 increasing the bonus by 1% per lvl from 5% for the tech 1 to 9% for the best meta level item. [...] Tech 2 upgrades [...] will come in revelations 2.2 as well as an inventible item.
cheers

According to the memo you got donked on the the effectiveness of your mining upgrades. 5% 6% 7% 8% 9% way different then 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%
I hope the tech 2 ones are 10% as the meta level is 5.

which makes a lot more sense than their "old" values tho

Wll yeah, the mining upgrades were drastically overpowered. Might be a bit drastic, a 2% bonus (max of 15%) would have been fine, and made them more useful.
Icemining is so Tedius, honestly, they could leave it alone. Even with the best Ice mining upgrade mods, your not gonna get closeto a 3 minute cycle without maybe a ganglink.
But then, we are getting T2 soon, which will probably be on par with best named, so should make things pretty redundant.

omg I CANT BELIEVE THEY DID THAT.... the modules were very good before, maybe too good, but look at the prices.. 1.5bil isk for the top mining upgrade. That SURELY should do the previous bonus's justice.. its not like someone would spend 6bil isk for mining in a rokh.. common be serious here...
there should have been some kind of cpu bonus for barges to make it so that you couldn't fit 5 top of the range mining upgrades to the rokh or any other ship that could fit 8 miner IIs. They didn't have to gimp the damn stats..
knew they'd do that... might aswell not get them now and wait to see what kinda stats the T2 versions have now...and they dont drop often anyway...

Edited by: StarKillerSG on 23/07/2007 16:31:29 I have a question, if CCP knew they were "overpowered" when they released them, which they obviously did otherwise they wouldn't have been deactivated from the begining, then why even release them?
Have the devs run low on isk and decided to start selling these unusable modules to pad their wallets or something?
Seriously though, why release something that from day one you know you aren't going to allow to be used as advertised?
Ironically while CCP works to provent some scams they turn around and release a module that currently serves no purpose other then to allow some players to scam others, real bright. |
