Hello everyone!
I've been watching one of the (REALLY) old game videos I have here... Between them there was a video of Earth and Beyond - and I thought that there was something that we could use to ease the lag a little, and even to get loose of some of those annoying error messages...
In Earth and Beyond there were cutscenes when you docked or undocked at a station. With those EVE might be able to remove those messages with "Scotty the hangar manager" and maybe a few more... Think of that: You undock, and instead of seeing a black screen the station service bar and your neocom retract and you see your ship leave the hangar... When docking, you see the hangar doors opening and your ship entering...
Okay, this suggestion might need some coding, but it'll have several benefits. The players can watch something during the time they dock or undock (instead of seeing error messages) - and even the lag would be eased, since the players can't do anything until the end of the docking time... And who knows, when those scenes are rendered well enough, the players might really like it...
Oh, and before I forget... CCP, bring those new graphics you promised in november 2006!

I prefer progress bars over a set of rendered movies.
And scotty isn't an error message related to loading things. He's to stop tactics/exploits involving instant ship switching.
In short, as long as there is an option to turn them off, sure.

I prefer less or no lags at all. But right now it is solid lag each time You came out of cloak on a gate in gang of 20-30 pilots. -- . |

Warshell... What I mean is that:
Currently the screen becomes black upon undocking... you don't see the chat, you don't see anything but that bar! And if your PC is good enough to render eve, it's good enough to render that cutschene video... You can still have that bar on the bottom saying the things you have now, with preparing ship and such... It might even be shown instead of just being said. "Trust me, your ship just entered space..."

Yep... hugely annoying to have a black screen on every session change.
And REAL cut scenes would also own. Completed a mission? Pod killed? Cut scene! ______________ Join the Family |

if that goes to the game - hopefully with an option to switch it off. for myself i would get annoyed by seeing the same cutscene over and over again

It's not a terrible idea, though it seems like it would tie better with engine rendered stuff in the new client (which looks like what CCP are aiming for anyway with the walking in stations stuff).
It would be nice to have a big white flash when you get pod killed though (or better, a massive gouge across the screen as your pod ruptures and you lose connection to your camera drones).

And the same black screen doesn't bore you? I'm sure if CCP were to make the seens sweet and simple they could change the looks of it a bit every major patch.

Yawn. Nothing bores me more than a stupid cut scene that I'm forced to watch over and over and over and over.
If the black screen bores you, invest in better equipment.
But, please, don't make us watch #&*($% cut scenes.

While interesting, this wouldnt really add anything but eye candy. Its my understanding the Scotty messages and such are all client-side so that session changes dont generate a lot of server lag by spacing that stuff out, cutting down on race scenarios and junk like that. Plus you can usually do stuff like talk to agents and load/unload your cargo hold during these cooldown periods, which you obviously couldnt do with cutscenes.
I wouldnt be against adding them with an option to disable them when they do the graphics overhaul though. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

I'm sorry to bring negativity but I would hate watching the cut scenes for the amount of times I switch ships.

And causing annoyance for all the other players, which is like .. 95% of the playerbase? That's what I especially 'like' about such measures.

Edited by: Katana Seiko on 26/07/2007 22:13:07 @Reiaandra Ilin: When you docked at a station, how can you switch your ship before "scotty" allows it?
I mean, a simple cutscene with just a small "flyby" scene where you see your ship passing the outer hangar gates and the last few hundred meters your ship flies before it arrives at the pad that your ship is at for the whole time you're docked in the station... Now, when you don't think that a ship hovering over a landing pad is boring and a black screen is even more boring, you have a weired taste of what's boring and what's not...
have a cutscene that's like ten seconds in duration - that might even be enough to turn off those annoying messages... a few seconds where you can see your own pod go pop and a fade-out... you don't need to be so negative. and i'm sure ccp can give you a ten seconds black screen instead if you really want...
