I fly Caldari ships, but I play in Gallente space with my cousin and brother.
Do I have to go to Caldari space in order to get rep with the Caldari Navy? Also, what's the main motivation behind gaining rep with factions? I have thought about getting rep with the Federation Navy, but I am hesitant due to the fact that, from what I understand, I would get Gallente ships and stuff. Am I correct in this assumption?

You're not limited in chosing which faction you want to work for. Many of my friends work for faction other than their race. Also you may even work for two or more factions in turns, to keep your faction standings above zero, since working for one faction will eventually decreaase your standings with some of other factions, which are "enemies" of the faction you're working for. I.e. working for gallente you'll get standings drops with Amarr and Caldari, but some increase with Minmatar.
The motivation for gaining rep with factions are - you will get loyalty points (LP) when working for them, and you'll be able to get some nifty stuff for them from LP Shops, also higher faction standings will give your corp ability to set up a POS in empire space in hisec.

Should I go ahead and get rep with the Caldari Navy, or should I get rep with the Federation Navy? Like I said, I fly Caldari ships and was wondering if the rewards gained from getting rep are worth flying to Caldari space to get rep with Caldari Navy.

1. Empire standing. You want this to be positive if you spend any time there. If your standing with an empire gets bad you will be pursued by their navy.
2. Docking rights. NPC stations belong to factions. You can only dock with stations when their standing towards you is neutral or better.
3. Taxes. The higher your standing with the faction that owns a station, the less you'll pay for sales tax, refining tax and otehr taxes paid to NPC's. A worthwhile consideration if you trade a lot in a specific sector.
4. Jump clones. You'll need to have a pretty high standing with an NPC faction to be allowed to install a jump clone at their station. Whether a faction supports the facilities for jump clones will especially for pew pew heavy players be a consideration as it would make them less dependent on corp based jump clone facilities.
5. Loyalty points. Every faction has their own assortment of loyalty point rewards in their LP store. The factional navies sell blue prints to faction ships for example. Check out the stores at stations belonging to different factions to get an idea what you might be interested in. If you fly a lot of Caldari ships you might want to work for the Caldari navy for example.
There might be more consideration but these are a few important ones. |

Well, in order to gain standing with the Caldari Navy Corp, you would need to find a station owned by them with their agents, most likely will only be in Caldari space.
To get your standing up with the Caldari State Faction the best way is do missions for Caldari run corps and every 16 (I think) or so missions you will get a mail from an agent from another Caldari run corp, asking you to do some kind of urgent mission, these are the storyline missions, and impact your faction standing in a big way (they also make a large impact on the standing with the corp the mission was for, my standing with Expert Housing is like 3.0 simply from running 6-8 storyline missions, where my standing with Lai Dai is like 4.25 after running one hundred or more level 1-2 missions)
That being said there may be a few Caldari run corp stations in Gallente space, though not likely given the storyline tensions between them.
So the answer then is if your goal is to get to a Caldari Navy Raven or Caracal or whatever then you will have to run missions for a Caldari corp (Lai Dai has both of these ships in their LP store, so it doesnt have to be the Caldari Navy corp) and build your LP with them. If you run missions for a Gallente run corp they will offer you the Gallente faction ships (dont know what these are, never looked much into Gallente ships).
My suggestion if you want to stay in Gallente space with your friends but do missions for Caldari corps, train up infomorph psychology, with it you can install a jump clone (some player corps with an outpost will temporarily set your standing high enough to install a jump clone) and then move the jump clone to Caldari space, and keep your main clone in Gallente space. Then just make sure to coordinate with your friends when they want to do things so you dont end up in mission clone when they want to mine and you have 21 hours till you can jump back. |

I want to move my clone from Gallente space to Caldari space as I know I will get killed sooner or later. It seems I can only move my clone within various stations owned by my school I picked. Is this restriction due to my corporation or my school (which are the same thing). In other words, if I join a corporation, will I be able to move my normal clone to one of their stations? I plan on getting a jump clone soon, but I was just wondering about moving my regular one.

Dock at a station in Gallente space that has medical facilities; you should be able to move your clone to the station you are docked at, regardless. Also, you should be able to remotely move your clone to anywhere your corporation has an office, without even being docked there.

Hmm..loyalty point items seem...expensive. Are loyalty points used like isk for faction items? Do you keep the loyalty points once you "spend" them? I know this may sound like an odd question, but some of the items I seen have such a high amount of cost, I don't see how anyone could ever get them...much less spend them for a 1-time deal.

Edited by: Braseur on 20/07/2007 04:51:28 It is a 1-time deal last I checked. You 'spend' LP much the same way as you would ISK.
I appreciate, it does look like alot, but its not supposed to be easy to pick up Navy Issue Ships, they're worth alot! ;)
Some sugeestions for you:
1) Pick up the skills 'Social' and 'Connections' if you haven't already. They will increase the amount of standing you receive for completing missions, which will in-turn open uo L2/3/4 agents faster. 2) Have a look at one of the following skills and pick up the one that applies to you. It will increase the amount of Loyalty Points you receive per mission:
Financial Connections High Tech Connections Labor Connections Military Connections Political Connections Trade Connections
I would imagine if your doing combat based missions you will want the Military Connections.
After that, you just got to keep working at it. You'll get there eventually. ;)
Good luck

To vastly oversimplify a complex issue:
Don't worry about your standings with the faction whose race you chose. Raise your standings with the faction that controls the space you fly in.

Rules for moving your medical clone:
You must have either:
1) docked at the station at some time in the past. or 2) use a station owned by your corp or an alliance corp.

This is absolutely not true. I have really bad standing with pirate factions, below -5, and can dock at their stations without any difficulty.
Standings only applied to player-owned stations in 0.0.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.
