I'm just a few days into the trial and of course I'm mining to make some isk. Question I have is I'm currently mining in 0.8 space. I'm looking to get into 0.6 or 0.7 to get different minerals or ore. I made a quick trip through some sectors and besides ice all I saw were the same ores from 0.8 space. Should I just stay in 0.8 space til I get enough skills or join a corp to get into lower sec space?
Thanks for any suggestion :)
Mae
ps. If I do goto a 0.7 preferably next is there any particular more populated system to goto to make selling goods easier?

Edited by: Joe Lappo on 19/07/2007 19:00:02 Keep looking in 0.5 and 0.6 systems and you'll find better ore.
Check out this awesome mining guide for lots of great tips & info: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=434899

All (I think so :) about mining you will find in this manual.
What about ore located in different areas - here (this image is from that manual)
Right now I'm currently mining in 0.5 systems (my character is just 11 days old)

You really have to learn how the market works. I'm no expert, but you will find that you may have to travel a bit to get the best prices. This is why many Miner's also have time and money invested in an Industrial ship. You mine a huge pile of ore, and then refine and go sell it all at once to cut down the time you spend hauling.
re: Hauling, you want to refine only if you have great refining skills, otherwise you lose so much on wastage that you are better off selling the ore itself. Highly likely that if you are in a corp (which you should be), someone can refine for you at 100% with no station tax, and you could keep all of the money.
re: Industrials, any indy will do, but eventually, you will want the biggest hauler. The 2nd best option is the Minmatar Mammoth, which requires Minmatar Industrial IV, maybe 2 days to train, 6 days to train, maybe 16k m3 iirc of cargo space, or the best of the best, the Gallente Iteron Mark V, which requires Gallente Industrial V, over a month of training, which has about 25k m3 of cargohold, with cargohold expanders.
Also, put cargo containers in your haulers. The Giant Secure Container takes up 3000 m3 of space in an industrial ship, but the container itself holds 3900 m3. That's an extra 900 m3 per container! "Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes" |

For my money, i'd stick to mining scordite and just selling the ore . . .seems to be the best money in hi-sec especially when you work out the ISK per hour and/or ISK per cargo hold. "Pop Rocker Extraordinaire" |

AFAIK, Kernite is the best money makes in high sec. It can be sold for twice what Omber sells and a lot more profitable then Scordite. The main reason being that a lot of storyline missions will ask for it and people place large buy orders for it. Other then that is has a good mineral composition.
But really just stick in 1.0-0.9 and mine Scordite while you train up skills. That way you don't have to worry about equipping drones for protection and you can just worry about mining, even leave the computer for a few minutes at a time.
Also although most people will disagree with me on this, don't jetcan mine. Buy a large secure container, anchor it and set a password. Then haul from that. At least until you get into a mining barge (Covetor mainly)

well, ok for now. Bought my cruiser. Found a high sec place scordite was selling for decent price now I'm mining there while training. Went from just over 30k per trip to little over 100k isk per trip now.
