This used to give extra graphical options if you put this line in the pref file.
I noticed the other day day even with the line in I no longer get the options but here's the question.....
I installed the biggest meanest AGP card I could get (trying to make my PC live a year longer) about the same time as the new major patch last month. Is it the card or is it the patch we got last month that has made this line in that file now void?

Your card is fine, one of the patches moved the prefs.ini file around to a hidden directory i believe. Theres a way to get it to work again but I dont know yet. I know its especially hard to get it working in you are on Vista because theres a special folder for EvE somewhere.....

They moved the prefs.ini files around and since then I've been unable to make the AdvancedDevice=1 command work. ------ I am in blood! Stepp'd in so far that, should I wade no more, it would be as tedious as going over. -MacBeth |

Edited by: Contralto on 20/07/2007 00:35:57 I had it all sussed out after the Rev 2 patch, using the command line suffix to disable the move of Prefs.ini.
Next patch all went haywire again. My solution is to give up trying to place the file where I want it, I just search out all instances of the file and modify them all! works for me now on 2 separate clients.
Every patch I do the search again and change if the patch messed with it. Its worse for me as I have most of the Eve files mirrored on a Ram disk so when the patch alters the location it gets real complicated. ---------- Gallente and Minmater Faction standings transfer service, fast and efficient service, 2 days to 5.0 4 days to 7.0. Find the prefs.ini in the new cache folder location not your old one.

This isn't the problem I don't think .
I found the old file very easily. It even has the advancedDevice=1 line still in it but I cannot get the extra options either.

The location in that link is correct.
I found two prefs.ini files on my machine. One in the Eve install folder:
<install folder>\cache\prefs.ini
The other in the location from the link above:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings\prefs.ini
Placing the advancedDevice=1 into the second prefs.ini did in fact add the extra options. Note that the second file is not in the "\cache\settings" subfolder but rather "\settings\".
Also note that the entry is case sensitive. It has to be written as: advancedDevice=1
