Ahm, look at topic. Isk, PvP, Mission-running might mean a lot to you, Skill-training is what is important to me. I've tried most things in this game, several times over. This is what I pay my RL-money for this game. That and keeping contact with a few friends of mine.
Wow! Read that last sentence out loud to a live human being, and save yourself 14 of whatever currency you live by. Cause paying for EVE so you can be all AR about swaping skills is just...

Wrong! You pay for game time, not skill training. If you want to complain about not getting your money worth, complain about not being able to play the game at least, not about a few hours of skillpoints lost/delayed.
That being said, I do agree with the op.
Yeah, you probably have lost almost a cent by now.

For the people that play a lot, its not a big deal. For people like me that get off work for the weekend (YAY!), its sad when it is down so much around this time. Not much to do about it, cept read threads, and notice that these times are a great time to buy GTCs from the market thread, as the price goes down :)

This isn't a freeware game, This isn't an open source project. People pay for this stuff, People are losing sleep, Skillpoints, and Time over this.
You have no room to stand on with your frankly bad points because the simple fact is people pay for a service they are not currently getting.
Now it is my hope with the next big Need for Speed update. They will make these events happen alot less often. However, it is VERY good to have their community on their rear ends to insure timely and quality stuff.

Actually he is right. Certain parts of the game are now unavailable to him and myself. We are paying for the full game, but being punished for CCPs inability to control their authentication server.

According to my (admittedly rough) calculations, in 2.5 hours of non skill training I will have failed to increase my skill point total by 4900.
Now based on my current skillpoint level, that means I will have failed to increase my total by 0.0001225%. Thats about 1/10000th of 1%.
With such a SAVAGE blow to my epeenage I'm not sure if i'll ever manage to recover.

Your talking about skills now only training while you play. You want the ability to grind out your skills. You want to be able to have a skill being worked on for 8 hours a day instead of 24. I think you should be wanting a life.
The average life expectancy is around 26000 days.... it's amazing how little some people care and what they will do to waste them all. -------------------------------------- ---"What's in your wallet?"--- "There are two kinds of respect, fear and admiration.... I'll take what I can get" |

I'm saying no such thing. All you Mains are oppressing us Alts, sending us into dangerous situations to be violently podded after losing our treasured ibises/velators/impairors/reapers. The Alts must rise against the Mains, securing freedom not only for themselves, but for their descendents.
(BTW, how do pod pilots make baby pod pilots? There must be some sort of access port on the pod that I can't see in game.)

Here's my suggestion:
During any type of downtime the skill-training of all players are put to a halt. This would be ok by me.
It's not that I'm not training my skills, but that others ARE when I'm not.
This should be able to null and void any argument from those "bah, you're just losing a few hours of skill-training-time"-selfrightous people who have skills training and have nothing better to do with their lives than complain about others complaints.
Most of these people aren't able to put themselves in your predicament, until it happens to them.

I am getting ****ed about these unofficial downtimes too due to the lack of being able to switch skills.
I will tell you this, my tactics for playing EVE have officially changed. Every time I experience any degree of lag I am switching my skill training to a long train. Pathetic that I have to do this, but I do.

But by then it's already too late.
(Tried that with my Mains but it turned out I had been disconnected already, at least from whatever it is allows you to change skills. Chat was still working for a few moments, though.)

Fact: The server will go down unexpectedly and people will as a result lose SP
Choice: Complain about the fact or use that frustration and anger constructively to build a case for having skill ques or "off-line" skill management or some other form of resolution that benefits everyone and overcome the issues generate by the fact.

As for the skill queues, I like that idea in general but people always seem to complain about it. Somehow GTC's -> Character training -> sell character for isk is worse than GTC's -> isk.

well then restrict it to a number of hours say for argument sake 24 hours surely an unexpected downtime would not exceed 24 hours.
