I've been slowly working my way up the ranks of the caldari navy's combat agents, and running the odd mission for the amarr navy with an alt, and i've discovered some disturbing things...
Firstly, In the last 3 months or so, Caldari mission salvage has gone through the floor - predominantly because caldari are being farmed to death, and over-supplying the market with caldari salvage. On two missions of equal size, sansha rats will drop 13m isk worth of salvage, compared to 2m isk in Gurista salvage - not good.
Secondly, Motsu is raven central, and if you're mission is within 1 jump of motsu, you get free lag with your cruise missiles...
If i want to avoid lag central, and maximise profitability, where should i be going? As i don't intead to hang around in Motsu making 15m isk an hour less than i could be elsewhere... I've heard that both amarrian and Minmatar empires will pit you against pirate factions with good salvage values (for the moment at least), but does anyone have a specific Corporation or agent they could reccomend? Any tips would be appreciated, otherwise i'll just go work for the amarr navy...

It's ridiculous how many level 4 quality 20 agents they've crammed into a very low sec system.
Ministry of War, blech. I spent far too much time working for them :).

Pick combat agent from one of Caldary corps who offers nexsus chips. No lag and quaranteed 1000 isk/LP rate.
If you are after salvage tho then run missions for amarr (or khanid after they fix their LP store).

What the last guy said, in fact I will pay you 1100 isk per LP (over 135k) if you work for the level 4 quality 18 Caldari Constructions legal agent (90% combat 10% courier) in Litiura (0.5 system). if you train up connections skills you will be on almost 10k LP per mission, you won't even need to salvage.

Sec 0.5 max LP is around 8500 LP for L4Q18 agent with max relevant social skills (not 100% certain from memory where exactly cap is, but it's under 9k LP). It sure as hell is better than Motsu area tho. Especially as you can 'cash in' reliably.

Are you sure about that? One of the guys working for me claims to get 9500 for a WC, though of course I did say 'almost' as I was trying to talk it up :)

1) in what way does earning 11mill from LP counteract the extra 13 mill from salvage?
2) why are the caldari sub-corps the only ones with a guarunteed 1000 isk per LP on their nexus crystals? surely another corp must have something that's worth close to as much (i know mid level implants can often get up to 500isk per LP after outlay)
3) are you factoring into your calculations about which are best the fact that the other agent ALSO gives out as much LP? If you're making cash from salvage instead of LP, you've got all these Lp to use to put navy issue ships on the market, or buy yourself implants....
don't get me wrong, but sacrificing 13 million in salvage per mission for 11 million in LP per mission seems a little silly, especially if the other guy is going to give you LP as well, which you can spend as you like (even if you DO have to choose amarrian toys).

About that ~8500 LP per missions in sec 0.5 I'm pretty sure. It was a while ago with 5/5 in relevant social skills on minmatar L4Q18 agent in sec 0.5. Only thing I was lacking was +10 personal stadings with that agent and 1 level of negotiations skills. Neither of them is big enough gain to push it above 9k limit. But as it was a while ago (~6 months) then who knows - perhaps something has changed in between. However it must be some very specific 'something' as I have not noticed it while working in sec 0.6 for L4Q17 agent. So so far I have lived in knowledge that only way to get above 9k LP mark per mission is to get them from low sec agent.
As far as Amarr agents go. There is several very good amarr agents giving exactly the same amount of LP as other races ones (L4Q18 in sec 0.5). There is also nexsus chip offers in some corps in all races but I am not sure if those are the same corps with 'good' agents. Most non combat corps offer them. If you look around a bit I'm sure it's possible to find something fairly good from that section. If you go for Amarr missions then in some cases Abbadon is faster than CNR for battleship heavy missions against blood raiders / sansha.

All I can add is this, if you want good salvage, stay out of Gallente space. Serpentis drop terrible salvage.
Since your standings are high with Caldari, you will also have high standings with the Amarr. Since Blood Raider and Sansha ships drop Melted Capacitor Consoles, which are easily the best single salvage item, I'd work for an Amarr corporation if I were you. It shouldn't be hard to find an Amarr corp that gives out plenty of combat missions.

gallente fight angels.....which drop loads of trit bars
i get about half and half serps/angels, with the odd blood raiders/sansha thrown in
but yes serps suck for salvage/loot unless you like charred micro circuits :P

The Gallente sometimes fight Angel cartel, but the primary Gallente opponent is Serpentis. If you want to fight Angels on a regular basis, fight in Minmatar space.

Yeah, I'm prettyylucky, as my level 4 Caldari agnets seems to have issue with Sansha's, cause probably 60% of my mission are Vs. Sansha. Course, it's kinda a scewed view, as I had 5 pirate Slaughter Vs. Sansha in a row from her more than once.

Don't get me wrong salvaging some missions is still very valuable but you can be halfway through the next mission by the time you've finished salvaging the previous one. If you only selectivly salvage while in caldari space you increase the amount of LP you collect by doing missions faster.
In Caldari space I follow these rules:
Drones, Minmatar: loot and salavage Blood Raider: salvage EOM, Mercs, Gallente: loot Guristas: neither loot nor salavage
It's not ideal but it maximises your profits.

Here's how to narrow your field
1. Go to http://www.eve-agents.com/
2. Search for specific faction agents, lvl 4 missions, combat missions only, and sort them by quality.
3. Scan down the list until you find the top agents that are in 0.5/0.6 systems.
Once you've done this for all 4 races, you'll have a much better sense of what's "good" out there for you. I'd suggest starting with Amarr since you have good caladari standing already. __________

Hm. You are right. I could swear that there was L4Q18 in sec 0.5 approx 1 year ago when I was considering possibility of working for amarr. It was in high sec pocet inside low sec. But meh - I must have been imagining things as it's unlikely that even Amarr agents could vanish from sec 0.5 without people being grumpy about it in forums.
Well L4Q18 in sec 0.6 is not that bad either. Difference with max social skills to sec 0.5 agent is around 500 .. 700 LP roughly. Around 8000 LP or so (L4Q17 in sec 0.6 gives 7965 LP).
