Edited by: Lady Valory on 24/07/2007 12:03:09 This kinda turned my stomach... I don't know if anyone cares but here it is...
I say retributions for sale in Jita--hundreds of them with sell orders for 3 700 000 isk.
Amarr starship data cores-hundreds of thousands of them for sale at 28000 isk PU...
There are dozens of examples more of unbalanced ships rippling through the economy... Other ships are facing the same price collapse--harpy for example...
I guess what I'm saying is that the economy is de facto place where we can check what really has value--what is balanced and what isn't.
Also the economy is part of that wonderful illusion that the game of EVE is an alternative universe...
IF the game becomes "minmatar and gallente ships online"--I think EVE will have taken a turn for the worse.
I guess my forum question for debate is this,
"Is it unreasonable to expect each races ships to be used by 25% of the player base, on average?"

People always pay more for better ships, supply and demand.
If ship A is viewed as being crap, and ship B is viewed as being uber (assuming both the same class) ship A will be cheap as few people will buy it, and ship B will be expensive since a lot of people are buying it.

Lol, did you know Caldari outnumber all the other races put together? And that the vast majority of mission runners fly Caldari ships?
In terms of numbers flying ships, I'd imagine it'd be something like Caldari > Gallente ~ Minmatar > Amarr.
The Caldari things fine because they're not great at PvP, so it all balances out. That means the only thing that needs changing is a boost to Amarr. Now why on earth has no-one started a thread on that before... --------

"Is it unreasonable to expect each races ships to be used by 25% of the player base, on average?"
Yes, highly so. If it were so it would require enforced limitations on what a player can or cannot fly regardless of training. Pretty draconian and not conducive to entertainment.

The problem you express is actually a big part of EvE. The economy is player influenced in a big way.
Don't change that
How will you force 25% of all players to buy Amarr ships when the percentage of Amarr players don't even reach 25% . Want to restrict a player to his race ships? That would be very sad and completely remove the freedom we have.. and waste about 40% of my SP..
This sounds like you are making Retributions and don't earn as much as you would like. Start building something else and give me the retribution BPO

Retributions problems:
-5th high slot is useless if you fit 4x medium Pulse (which you will), so it has 1 slot less. Cool he?
-1 Med Slot? Afterburner is pretty much needed to get into range or stay out of it, also needed for running out of bubbles etc. So it has about zero med slots. Cool he?
-Less cpu for more low slots, but every cool low slot item takes between 15 to 35 cpu. Cool he?
This leads us to the following: The Retribution sucks.

We're a fad-culture, a culture of following the herd, the pack, the flock, the school, the pride, the majoriy...
New players looking for advice would be given the advice to use specific ships over others. It is sort of like how the majority of people in France act differently than those living in, say, Japan. They grow up with different people, see things from a different perspective, get advice from different people, and thus the majority of French are similar to each other but different from the majority of Japanese (who are also similar to each other). People playing Eve make up a single fluid community, and that community tends to favor certain things over other things, and new members to that community will begin to favor those same things. Something will always be unpopular, simply because a competitor is favored for a specific quality. It has nothing to do with one ship actually being better than another, but rather that the majority of pilots are looking for the exact same qualities in a ship, and obviously one ship design is more likely to have those qualities than another. To adjust one ship to also have those qualities would ultimately make the ships either the same, or make the formerly bad ship the better ship. Thus, even if the specific ships that are popular change, the concept of one ship being much more popular than another remains true.

You also have to note that there is very few retributions die because very few people pvp in it due to its 1 Mid slot. Thus the demand is lower than it should be, and supply is high.
Also, people beleive Amarr suck badly, so you will notice all Amarr stuff cheaper, with exception of mods related to the curse and the curse itself.

Things always change. When I first started playing Caldari was 75% of the universe. These things are always changing. It's not the size of the ships its the motion of the otion

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 24/07/2007 12:19:25 Oooh! Time to restock my retribution bay
Good times for pure pilots.
By the by, retribution has some very fun uses, but it's a state secret
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

Yes that's unreasonable considering amarr players make up 10% of the population. And the retribution is one of the least populair ships around.

Look at how popular memes are with the Eve community. They just love jumping on a bandwagon. So when some one says, "The Retribution sucks cause it has only one mid slot", the sheep of the Eve community say with one mind, "Yeah, the Retribution sucks, I'll get a Vengeance". So the price of once goes up and the other goes down.
But lets face it the difference donÆt amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. And certainly not worth the difference in price.
Personally, I like that some ships are underpriced, long may the community hold the Enyo in low regard. Just don't cry when you get popped by the cheap, cheerful, but lethal combination of an Enyo and Retribution working together.

I agree completely with Tores. The whole market is PLAYER run. So its not as if CCP has gone "Yay lets make Amarr cheap". Players have gone, omfg Amarr suck!! and just started using other races and bought those ships driving that price higher. Not that i really care. Im Amarr, Interceptors are 7 mil, Cald Ceptors are... what? 20 mil? something stupid like that. pfft. Yeah im content being Amarr. I would throw a hundred ships into the void just to see you crushed. |

Where the heck do you buy your interceptors?
Amarr interceptors, on last check, were around 3-5mil in Jita.
