We're not supposed to talk about politics but I'm gonna say something anyways.
He's like me. I don't like to vote either except sometimes on the local stuff that may affect me more.
Since I didn't vote for the president, I really have no say about him although I still make fun of the guy but who doesn't.
Politics isn't my thing personally.

You don't have any right to complain about authority that you are in charge of electing or un-electing. That's like complaining about the clothes you wear that your mom bought for you. Now, complaining about that idiots who contributed to the election... ------------ ULTIMATE LAG SOLUTION | Forum Whiners - Unite! |

I agree with the OP. Maybe you should point out to this non voting person that he would feel very differently if he lived in a place where he did not get the chance to vote.
Don't vote? Then kindly STFU.

Edited by: ReaperOfSly on 27/07/2007 16:01:31 The problem comes when there really isn't anybody worth electing. When all the candidates are as bad as each other.
To be honest, I'm a bit peeved off with our particular brand of democracy. If you vote for A, and B is elected, your vote is wasted. It's just not represented at all, even if it was a 49/51 split.
Also, once a person is elected, they basically have a license to be a dictator for 4/5 years. People say "well if you don't like what the PM is doing, vote him out." But you can't even do that until the next election. Until then, he/she can do as much damage as he/she likes.
I'm going to have to cut my rant short, otherwise I could go on for hours. --------------------------------------------------------------------

If there is no one you want to vote for you cant vote, at most you can say spoil your ballot but for me spoiling is the same as not going.
So yeh I dont vote but complain.

Very rarely will you ever get the chance to vote for your perfect candidate.
Most politicians are scum. However, you know their basic stance on issues. You vote for the one that has the most similar stance to yours...

Of course you can. If I have 3 options:
1) Vote for undesirable person #1 2) Vote for undesirable person #2 3) Don't vote
and I choose not to vote, I am certainly entitled to complain about an undesirable person being in office.
It would make more sense to say a person has no right to complain about someone they voted in, which is very often the case (though, of course, this is silly too). Empress Aphrodite

Not quite, but close. Your vote doesn't contribute to the formation of government, but your MP is your representative in Parliament whether you voted for him or not. If you have grievances, write to him/her about it.

Ya it's never really mentioned anywhere but you can actually vote for anyone you want. It'd be the same as not voting though as that person would have no way in hell of getting the votes a actual politician would.
I knew a guy that got 3 votes one year!
