I just installed Vista Ultimate this last week, and I cannot get EVE to work..
I have reinstalled the latest version of EVE, Reinstalled Vista, Reformatted, etc. etc. etc...
When I load up EVE I get the flash screen, then the Connection window opens but stays as a Black Window.
All I can do is hear the music playing.
I've searched through the forums and cannot find any hotfixes or anything related to this issue.. If anyone has a fix or a link to a thread with the fix I would deeply appriciate it!

You are running Eve with the "run as administrator" correct?

Vista is not bad when you disable all the crappy annoying security features like UAC >.<

Something somewhere is askew, as I'm running EVE under Vista Ultimate with none of the security turned off, other than running EVE as admin. I'd consider looking at display driver versions other than the one you are currently using.

All security features have been disabled...
I've got all new drivers..
Deleting the Cache folder doesnt change anything as well.
I guess i'm just one of the many Vista users who wont be able to play. Even tho my room mates PC sitting next to mine is using same copy of vista and plays EVE just fine without a hitch. =/

Hello,
Im a Vista Home User,And i did have this same problem, If your windows is running in the Vista Aero colours and boxes, You wont be able to play eve, Because they infer with each other,
So its pretty simple fix.... Go to Display setting and set the standard windows 98 look and feel or the whole system, Once it has changed you should be able to load/Click on the eve login screen :)
Try this mate, Good Luck

I'm running vista x64 and havent had any problems at all, except with Adobe Premiere encoding with x32 codecs :(
Uninstall everything CCP related, even the ungodly hidden cache folder. And download a new client and hope for the best : /

My room mates computer is running the same copy of vista ultimate and uses the Vista Aero theme. He has no problem running Eve.

Had this problem trying to run in SLi.
Switched back to non-SLi and problem 'cured'
Running Vista 64 bit with Aero enabled on ...
AMD 3800+ ASUS A8N32 SLi Delux 1303 bios 4 x 1 Gb (with Hardware Memory Hole enabled in bios) 2 x Nvidia 8600 GT Creative Audigy 2 ZS Enermax 600 watt PSU (noisetaker)
I don't understand what specifically caused the issue, other than disabling Sli resolved it. However, my symptoms were the same ... black login box with music. Could even enter my password, and enter character selection screen, which was also an appropriately sized and windowed black screen: also with music.

Try to update DirectX to the newest version maybe. Not sure :( It works fine on my work computer and it's a P4, 1gig, 6200 running Vista Ultimate. ------------------------------------------------- See boys and girls, a lesson to be learned here... keep in mind dual booting so its the same machine antivirus everything but the os

See sticky thread about black screen in this board. Had this problem too, it was a missing microsoft office file "arialuni.ttf" font which EvE uses and is normally only installed with M$ office.
