Yes, I was wondering what you thought the most in demand type of character there was in EVE. I am relatively new so any suggestions would be appreciated.

What do you mean by in demand? There's no "demand" in eve, a character who can fly their ship the best will always have a place, if you mean to sell your character for isk- generally pvp characters or miners

EVE is not like other games where your starting character pigeon holes you into some class. In EVE anyone, any race, can be anything. All that differs are the starting attributes (a bit) and a handful of skills you start out of the gate with. After that your character progression can be whatever you want and at anytime you can switch to anything else.
Most people choose their starting race for looks and/or backstory purposes.

The most in-demand character is one who can adapt to situations, follow orders (when necessary), or think for himself otherwise. Everything else is fluff.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

Alright, well how about this. Say I wanted to be a miner, what Race and so on would you recommend?

The race is almost always caldari achura, because that race has the best attirbutes. Also, another benefit for achura is that the caldari have the best mining frigate and cruiser in the game- you could always train caldari frigates and cruisers on another character, but starting as caldari saves you two or three days. When it comes down to it- that's the only bonus any race has- saving two or three days (well, maybe 10 if you decide to completely change the direction of your character). Take all of the posters advice that the number 1 decision you need to make in regards to race is which portrait do I like the best? everything else is pretty much only a matter of saving an hour here, but taking an hour longer there.

This man speaks the truth. Picture and roleplaying background are most important. You can get reasonably well balanced attributes on just about any race.

Silly me. I'd consider (at least in territory holding 0.0 alliances) snipers to be the most in demand characters.
A sniper being a character who can fly a battleship (usually a Megathron, but there are other ships that are quite effective) with tech 2 large long-range guns (railguns for Gallente, artillery for Minmatar, or beam lasers for Amarr) and sit more than 150km off of a stargate and focus fire with the rest of the fleet on the enemy fleet that jumps through (if they jump through).

This is the kinda answer I was looking for.

Don't mean squat if you don't have an interdictor pilot, or a tackler, or a scout. If we want to get real technical, in 0.0 territory holding alliances the most in demand pilots are mothership and dreadnaught pilots

And without the miners that mine the ore, and the manufacturers that build stuff, there would be no 0.0 wars at all...
So really, everything is in demand, it's just that certain situations requre different people, therefor you'll always find your place.
It's not like WoW where all you can do is raid dungeons and where priests are always needed.

You only need a couple interdictor pilots on any given outing. Ditto for dedicated tacklers (as most people fit a disruptor and a MWD anyway). Ditto for scouts. But have you ever heard ANYONE say "no, I think we have enough snipers at our gate camp"?
Everything may be useful, but you need more snipers than you need of anything else. Dread pilots are also highly coveted, but let's save capitals for a while, eh?

I think the point is to play the character you want to play. Specialize in the game you'll enjoy playing the most. If you can do that well, you'll be in demand.

Yeah but then snipers are a dime a dozen. Those dedicated to scouting/tackling are not as common.
Certainly any group will be happy to have another set of guns...certainly doesn't hurt. But I find the really in demand people are those willing to specialize in the not so obvious. Takes a certain sort to be a scout (i.e. "Go sit on that gate for 4 hours and tell us what comes through").
And as others pointed out all types are ultimately needed. Builder, miners, cap ships, scouts, tacklers, bombers, suicide-inclined smartbombers, etc..
Bottom line is do what YOU want to do. Someone will be happy for your services whatever they are.

If you take the posts in recruitment subforum into consideration they tend to mention a lot the T2 large gun endowed battleship snipers, the interdictor pilots, and cap ship pilots for alliance warfare. In my experience in roaming pvp gangs, an interdictor pilot, a covert ops pilot with high scan probing skills, and some e-war spec'd pilots are always a good thing. Almost everyone can fly battleships with big guns and interceptors/frigs/afs to provide firepower and tackling.
Now that is for the character specialization. As from the pilot himself or herself I'd say all alliances need people who are fun and don't smacktalk and can take losses well, who have patience and dedication, and who have a clue (combined with ability to lead that is always win).
Being happy mining and playing with the market is not a bad thing. That's what i'm doing now (hence it can't be bad ). Remember to play the game the way you see it fit to have fun playing - don't be forced into playing it the way that you don't enjoy or you'll lose interest and quit sooner or later.

You can lie back realax and let the market wash over you. Immersh yourself in it. Definately the deepest in MMORPG i've played and one of the more technical professions in Eve.
in Eve i'd say pick something you enjoy doing, then you'll get good at it. There's always demand for a specislist whether it's combat, trading, mining production or whatever.
Have fun and welcome
