a) I play computer games! b) I'm 30, I still play computer games! c) Lasers, missiles, explosions!!
Who cares what people think of you, as a gamer? If I cared that much, my XFire profile wouldn't show 4400 hours of gaming since February 2005!

a) That you play computer games
I just say, I love computer games and that it replaces the brain dead TV for me. Usually, no one can say anything since most watch tv...
b) At the age of 30 you still play computer games
I'll let you know when I'm 30.
c) How do you explain eve without sounding like a geek?
I play in a death metal band and I am pretty fit. I just like to relaxe on EVE after my long hours of music, training and work. Since I don't like to be brain dead, I play EVE..
Usually, people tend to not know what to reply :)

If you play computer games at age 30, then I'm sorry, but you are a geek...
Especially if you play a game like EVE...

1. I enjoy games with stories to tell. In the same sense like a movie or a book is revealing its story. 2. I grew up with books, I grew up with movies so its only natural that I continue to play games even if I am 30 because I enjoy games as much as I enjoy reading books or watching movies, with something to tell. 3. Action, comedy, drama, horror, romance, thriller and weirdos. All this in a galaxy from Iceland.

I just explain I can either be out drinking and acting stupid, or I can be playing games.
Everyone has a hobby, mine is shooting. Be it real guns or imaginary internet spaceship guns, if it goes bang I'm gonna play with it!

Typically most women in their late 20's and older see it as childish, and would prefer to not date men who play computer games...
I'm pretty sure this is where the OP is coming from... He's afraid to tell women that he plays computer games...

It's not possible for women to stop playing their emotional/drama games, it's how their brains are wired.
Just as it's not possible for men to not act like kids sometimes, or have childlike hobbies. No, we never grow up, deal with it women of the world...

Quote: B. If you are playing at age 30 then you need a girl.
That's the problem...
I'm 34, and have both a woman(GF) and computer games & other manly toys/hobbies. Luckily this does not bother my woman. MOST women however, won't stand for it, and it causes relationship problems (My GF would probably not like it so much if we were married, and the game(s) interfered with the relationship) To the point, that there is a stigma against men who play computer games. They are geeks, or non-datables...
So what's the lesson?
Most women want marriage above all else. So it's up to us men to NOT give it to them IMO...

I fail to see why having a girlfriend and enjoying videogames are mutually exclusive.

I don't think this is really true anymore - you would have to look fairly hard to find a guy that didn't play some kind of videogames, even those of marrying age. After all, guys in their 25-30s now were kids during the time of the Atari, arcades, and nintendo (approximately). And if you're mature you can figure out how to balance your games and your relationship, no different than any hobby to be honest. ------------ ULTIMATE LAG SOLUTION | Forum Whiners - Unite! |

Why do people always say 'you need a girl'. Are they the key to life or something?
Just get a hooker. They're cheaper and you only have to put up with em for a hour.

Most women see playing a computer game anymore than 2 hours, a couple nights a week after work, as a problem. Not the kind of man they want, blah blah blah...
Try playing EVE for 30 minutes, 3 times a week and see how much satisfaction you get from the game... Pretty much none...
This is what a lot of men are faced with...

Regarding women & games... I know many gamers who have SOs. One would be my father. Others include a few members of my corporation - who are married to each other.
Anyway, as to your questions...
a) When she asks what you like to do in your spare time, say 'computer games' b) I don't see a problem with this. If she says that computer games are childish, point out that they are no more childish than movies - and that the gaming industry is about as big as the film industry. c) If you play eve, you are a geek. Be proud of it. ____________________________________ Caldari by birth, Minmatar by citizenship.

It's all in how you phrase it.
"Do you watch much TV?" "I watch a couple of hours a night; who doesn't?" "I don't. How can you put up with staring at regurgitated content without ever using your brain? I'd rather read a book or play a video game and actually have a hand in entertaining myself. Besides, with today's video games mostly being online and multiplayer, it's a great way to get together with friends from other countries and do something together. And speaking of 'group activities'..." *cue **** music*

a) I don't stare at a screen to see what the images say and do next, I interact with them.
b)See above, "what your 40 and you watch 12 folks sitting in a house!!!!111"
c)I play a game where I met and mingle with folks from all walks of life.
I am 31 married with kids, my wife met me at a time when I was subbing to Eve and although my Eve time has varied and mainly decreased she excepts if as part of my life. The same way I accept Big Brother and all the other crap she watches as part of her life.
If a woman is not going to take you for who you are, or wants to change you then get out of dodge as it will all end in tears. Got the t-shirt on that one.

c) How do you explain eve without sounding like a geek?
a) There's no way to make computer games sound cool, so just say as little as possible
b) I don't think age is much of an issue, it's largely subjective depending on who you're talking to (and which games you're playing). For example, in WoW and Kal Online I've been told by a 17 year old and a 13 year old respectively that I'm too old to play video games (I'm 23). In EVE most of the community I play with see me as young
c) It's a science fiction game where you play co-operatively and competitively, and interact with thousands of different people from all over the world. __________________________ Indulge Me Consider Yourself Indulged - Immy ♥ Wow immy scored - Xorus |

a) I don't mention it unless it comes up. There is a time and a place for conversations about games and usually it is not while meeting new people at parties.
b) You are doing something you love. Maybe other people don't enjoy it the way you do, but they don't have to.
c) A game of internet spaceships where things like spying and espionage are valid tactics. Don't want a corp building a ship? find their assembly array and go blow it up. Or gain access to their corp wallet and drain their coffers so they can't afford one. A lot of eve is more about working with other people then it is about pew pew lasers. ------ I am in blood!
