Originally by: Lady Trade Wrangler any info on any reimbursments for lost game time? The server has been crashing nearly daily for quite some time now.. i think a week or at least 3 days of free game time would be the least CCP could do....
Don't hold your breath. Apparently CCP decided that they have the right to expect regular revenue but that we don't have the right to expect regular service. They have expenses, you know, and events to attend and hold, and parties and stuff to pay for. If they were to reimburse us for lack of service, even if only in terms of pushing back our expiration dates/times, then they would have to, you know, be more careful coding and, um, do real QA, which is hard work, and keep their ops people on their toes by, dunno, threatening them with kneecapping or something, and maybe make an example of the worst staffer each month or quarter by putting him on a pike outside the office for the birds to eat. They'd have to really shape up and run Eve-O like banks run their systems, stock exchanges and brokerages run their systems, credit card companies run their systems, power plants run their systems, etc. They'd have to take it seriously and maybe it wouldn't be so much fun.
Or maybe it's a subconscious death wish on the part of Microsoft. "Here, showcase our SQL Server, but make sure it crashes every day due to database problems..."
On the one hand Eve is an amazing thing... so many of the things in it are so well thought out, and mostly implemented very well. It's difficult to do justice in a few words to the stupendously marvelous achievement that Eve is. But when it craters several times a week there must be something seriously wrong. The myriad small things that misbehave may point to QA. Or maybe there just isn't an institutional comprehension of and commitment to "mission critical," which could affect pretty much all activities... programming, database management, change and patch policies, QA, operations, customer service...
I see that it's now in the "Starting up in 4 seconds, 3, 2, 1... Starting up in 4 seconds, 3, 2, 1" cycle. That's the kind of stuff that causes a CS professor to have a sit-down with the student and suggest he/she seek a different, less demanding career.

We had some nodes causing issues on startup, so we're restarting the startup.

How about addressing some questions people posted here? I'm all up for entertainment aspects of forum postings, but an informative aspect has its benefits too.
And the posts I made saying what happened, and then explaining the startup issues and telling everyone it's starting up etc isn't doing just that?

If you read ALL of CCP Wranglas coments than you would notice that he IS keeping us updated, hence the reason I am staying on this thread.
Not everyone is technical, sometimes they dont know exactly whats going wrong they are just trying to fix it, the best they can. As Wranglar mentioned earlier he doesnt know much bout the servers, so instead he is sitting on his computer letting us know of updates and having some fun at the same time.
I hope you do think that the devs and everyone else who works at CCP are people as well and like to have fun.
So please give him a chance, when he knows something he will tell us :)

Gotta love the ignorance of people replying to the thread to beat up on wrangler as if he hasn't been updating it since a minute or so after extended DT began. The whining will never end.

I was talking about the reimbursement/repayment questions actually. I think we're all pretty familiar with the downtime hiccups by now and whilst a "need another restart" posting is fine, I'd much rather hear about what is being done on this issues in the long run. What is CCP's policy on failed service delivery? Is it something players have to deal with or can we expect a certain service level and penalities for CCP if they are not met and so on?
