CCP, now with low-sec factional missions and hopefully factional war upcoming, it is even easier to chunk your standings to where they are unrecoverable.
I don't mind having low-faction standing. But I do have an issue with this being unfixable, no matter what I do.
It is conceivable that in the future I may join a corp or have friends who live in a part of space I cannot access! If new content is released in certain empire factions space, such as COSMOS or such, I could never reach it.
I think several pirate mission runners feel the same way. They start off in hi-sec doing empire missions then move to 0.0 and would like to do missions, but they are forever held at bay by standings.
My suggestion is: Make a L1 Q-20 agent available to everyone, regardless of faction or corporation standing. Perhaps you end up paying the agent to do the mission, instead of the other way around. If I'm -10, I just want a method to get back up - it doesn't need to be easy. I would think the grind from -10 to -2 on a level 1 agent is painful enough, ya?

Edited by: Ki Tarra on 03/08/2007 20:52:01 Can you share faction standings gains from storyline missions use the gang completion option? I have heard mixed results on this one.
If you can share these gains, then all you need to do is gang with a buddy doing any level of import mission and your standings will raise.
If factions standing cannot be shared, let's get that fixed! That would solve this problem.

No. Can't share them. No 'fix' planned for that, it's planned that way.
It is possible to recover most faction standings from -10. It's just slightly more painful than grinding from -10 to -2 on lev 1 agent. You need to do missions for faction where positive faction gains get you 'derived modification' on your target faction.

They can't be shared, and that work has intended . It is stated in one of the dev blog, if I recall exactly even in the patch notes and I have tested it.

I'm more annoyed by the lack of rewards for working up your standing with a faction (COSMOS ships bpc aren't that hot, certainly not now that the LP store is out) than not being able to recover ruined standing myself.
Imperial, Federation, Tribal, State ships or something simular for reaching 9.9 would be nice. (yeah, I know this isn't gonna happen)

9.9 already gets you a fleet/navy issue.

What's this? You work up faction standing to 9.9 and you get a faction ship for free, am I understanding you correctly?

There should be a way to repair your standings. It should be lengthy, or difficult, but it should be there.
Oh no, wait.... Caldari/Amarr alt, Gallente/Minmatar alt. Each can run the pirate missions for the others "enemy factions"... yay for multiple accounts and meta-game solutions.

Nice. I bet it takes ages to get there though.
That begs a few more questions. If you get negative faction standing, you get attacked by that factions navy when in their space, if I've understood correctly. Is their navy present also in the lowsec systems?
Could I have a ganged friend/alt run missions directly for the faction that hates me, and thus raise my negative standings with them?

Ive run so many missions ive lost count, and im still only 8.0 gall standing, by the time you reach 9.9 you could have bought about 50 navy BS's from the LP store.

That's a ******** solution. I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.
For the record, I run missions for Sansha. I pew-pew Amarr quite a lot, and I could go to Interbus to fix my standings through derived standings. However, this would only work once. If I chose to go back to Sansha from Amarr, I'd be in a spot.
Not even pirates have to live with a low sec-status forever. It is possible to rat up from -10. I just wish the same for mission runners and faction standings.

So after you do missions for Sansha's Nation, who undertsandably are not liked by the Amarr very much, they should be happy to see you?

Which would all be well and good were it consistent across the board. However as was mentioned in the post above yours, sec status is completely recoverable, faction is not.
It would be quite plausable to conduct a merry campaign against Concord, blasting your way to -10 sec, then retire to your favourite ratting system and work your way back to 0 sec, ready to sail into 1.0 systems and give Concord a friendly wave, no questions asked. Sure, it won't be fast, but given that sec gains work on the difference between current sec and +10, your sec gains 'per kill' at -10 are actually worth twice what they would be at 0. In other words the worse you behave, the easier Concord make it to recover their favour. So much for making it really tough.
I am in favour of some consistency. If dropping below a certain faction level is to be kept 'unrecoverable', lets see the same apply to sec status. Once you drop below a certain point (or even nastier, once you have lost a certain total over your career, irrespective of your current status), then it doesn't matter how many rats you kill, you are a naughty boy and Concord will never favour you with sec gains ever again.
Or, provide a means to regain bad faction no matter how low it has become, in the same way one can regain bad sec status (which I suspect would tread on a lot fewer toes than the above suggestion ).

Read my post above. Faction standings are recoverable. It's just a lot harder than security status grind. You have to try real hard to manuever yourself into totally unrecoverable position.

Interbus a no storyline agents, so no Faction gains.

Not really. Amarr/Caldari bloc have no Sisters of Eve equivalent. Through the magic of derived standings I'm quickly going to be shut-out of Amarr/Caldari space if I continue to run missions for Sansha.
For the guy who said choices should be permanent: surrrreeee. Let's restrict Amarr pilots to flying Amarr ships (you know it's treason for Amarr pilots to fly non-Amarr things in the Empire?). Let's restrict Minmatar pilots from flying in Amarr space unless they are a slave.
Gameplay before RP. Can you imagine how many people try out piracy and then decide later to give it up to go to high-sec? Quite a few! And isn't ratting your sec status one of the most boring grinds in the game? Yes it is! But is it available? Yes it is! Parts of the game shouldn't be completely shut off to players without hope of redemption.

Not entirely true. 'The society' derived modifications are capped at -2.33 from sansha derived modifications. 'The Society' has positive derived modificator towards Mordus legion (who can drop as low as -5.33 from derived modifications from sansha) who can be recovered that way. After you have recovered Mordus legion you can recover your caldary block standings. Limit is -5 stadings below what diplomacy lev 5 no longer pushes you above -2 limit.
Is it practical .... well not really .... but it is theoretically possible if you are hellbent on it.

The Society has no agents. Which misses the point: that currently, there are indeed some factions that are permanently shut off once you reach a certain faction standing with no method of improvement.

I think a lot of the comparisons in this thread are silly, but it would be nice to be able to patch up faction standings for a serious time and effort cost. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
