I stopped reading right there.
You're right, people PVP in more than the Crow and Raven. I've seen Kestrels, Merlins, Crows, Caracals, a Cerberus, a Ferox, Drakes, a Scorpion, a Raven, and Rokhs in PVP. I personally fly the Drake in PVP (and I'm reasonably successful). Most of this post will be focused on Cruiser/BC sized combat.
People always say that Caldari can choose their damage type (which is true in a very limited sense), and use this as a justification for the missiles putting out much lower DPS than any other manner of damage. This seems like complete bunk, because 3/4's of the missiles I fire are completely unbonused missiles. And there's nothing that sucks more than unbonused missiles.
It always makes me smile when a sniping destroyer can outdamage my fairly decently skilled Drake. Yeah.
Then, of course, people say that Missiles are long range weapons. Sure, Heavy Missiles are fairly long range, if very slow to deliver said damage. People who say that you can effectively PVP at range in a missile boat are full of ****. They've never done it.
I tried doing it for a while, and it just never worked out for me. The guy would be half way through armor before my first volley hit - and only a couple of the volleys I fired hit before the guy went down anyway. Sure, they hit "hard", I guess. If you consider 150-200 DPS hard.
Furthermore, people then point out that HAM's do "awesome" damage without any of the difficulties of tracking, etc. We should then consider that HAM's are not affected by most missile skills. Thus, you know all those bonuses your gunnery skills give you? Yeah, we don't get them - even with 7-8M SP in Missiles.
And then there is the problem of getting into range to use those wonderful HAMs. Caldari ships are ridiculously slow and clumsy. It's downright disgraceful. Saying that a Caldari pilot doesn't need to train Navigation skills is beyond comprehension: you don't know what you're talking about. I'd say its much more important for a Caldari pilot to train Nav skills than a Gallente pilot. You ever try to catch a MWD Myrmidon with a MWD Drake? Hint: Unless that bad boy's floating with armor rigs and armor plates, it won't happen.
I use the Myrmidon as an example because its the only other Tier 2 BC with a tanking bonus - so don't say "Don't compare to the Myrmidon". The Myrmidon is the only logical choice of who to compare to.
In the end, I think un-nerfing Caldari mass/agility is definitely in order. It would at least give me more time before that 800 DPS Brutix/Myrmidon gets me into their optimal to try and obliterate me.
Note: Not all of this post is directed at you: just things I've read in the thread.
