I would like to know why the orbit option goes away at over 150km? Why can't I orbit at any distance I want. Tracking computer on the ship not good enough?
Okay 46.5 AU maybe extreme, but many snipers would like an option to orbit a little farther out I think.

Agreed. One should be able to orbit at least up to 250km; ---- Some people say I have a bad attitude. Those people are stupid.

No argument here. A lot of these little things (approach, look at, etc.) are deactivated at range, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

The canon reason given for "look-at" not working after 150km is that, that is the maximum range of the camera drones which your ship controls to give you the external view. (Check out the Eve Tech Chronicles).
Also, I would think orbiting at 150km is disabled to stop people being able to make warp points further and further above or below the elipicle too easily. As at 150KM you can warp to an object out at that range (well, suitible object for a warp computer to lock onto).
So, there is credence to stop people making verticle assaults or too many 3D approach vectors for PVP, as too many of them might make for too many complaints from people who can't handle it.
I myself, would be all for it.
Another thing is of course that at 250km your gun tracking one degree is magnified by a huge frustrum of scope at the target end.
Maybe, just maybe, there are limits to the accuracy of the gun tracking, which make orbiting or traversal recalculation too hard at extreme range, so for the sanity of the computer engineers developing the ships they just set the range limit closer for orbits.
I completely speculate of course, but if we were to look at the role playing element of this role playing game, we would see an initiative why extreme range traversal would make gunnery hard.
And after all, at 250km orbiting might not be the best thi, sitting very still and hitting the target might be a lot better for your bottom line.

We should be able to use these commands whatever the distance is.
As you can't : 1/ Warp to an ennemy ship when in warp range (150+km) 2/ Can't use the orbit or keep at range button at (150+km) while you can still lock at such range and you can still open fire and the default values for those commands can be set over 150km, Then, we should have the commands still activable over 150km.
It would ease : 1/ Interceptor and other extreme speed ships to approach targets over 150km 2/ Long range ships to stay at their optimal range over 150km (orbiting or keeping at range) 3/ Fast ships to make fun of slow ones while orbiting out of their lock range (if the slow one gets bored, he can still warp out and leave the area... no griefing involved here)
We need it, it's pretty anoying not to have these commands... -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! The Vexor Navy Issue is much more fun than the Myrmidon !
