I've seen ideas about NOS being debated tons. I've made a suggestion for a while now that I think seems to solve the problem of NOS. I've posted other threads about it and replied in some of the ones there, but to little reaction. Either my idea sucks or people are missing it. Ill post it here again, as I really do thing it helps balance NOS:
Overload NOS Idea In this this thread I proposed a solution to dealing with NOS's by allowing Energy transfer devices to work against them. I proposed that you (as the victim) be able to overload them by willingly feeding them what they seek (energy) using other devices, such as the energy transfer devices currently in the game, as a counter-strategy.
NOS and energy draining devices would not be deemed too powerful if there was a tactic that effectively countered them. Simple as that. Most of the solutions (including CCP's) seem far too complex for what is really a simple problem.
This proposal is simple for a couple of reasons. Both NOS's and Energy transfer devices (such as the Small Energy Transfer Array 1) already exist in the game, and wouldn't require significant alteration.
When I first made this suggestion, no overloading capability existed in game, but now one does which could make the NOS overload.
The idea is simply that energy transfer devices such as the NOS transfer energy from one place to another. Why not allow energy transfer devices to effect one another. If someone comes along and tries to NOS me, but I have a Small Energy Transfer Array fitted, I simply feed the NOS ship willing the energy it is sucking at a rate that exceeds its capacity causing it to overload.
I'm down a bit of cap, the unfriendly NOS is disabled (overloaded), but I have a chance at least to get away.
The final benefit of this is balance. The ability to disable a NOS is balanced by the fact I have to have had the foresight to equip the thing, which means every NOS fitted ship out there isn't in danger. It is also balanced in that no NOS fitted ship is guaranteed a victim as some pilots will be willing to give up a high slot to an Energy Transfer array.
A last thought, is that mostly people like the NOS now as is (except for the balance issue), and I would say Energy Transfer devices are not so popular.
This proposal would result in not the ganking of the NOS (rather the balancing) but also would make the Energy transfer devices more popular. Why ruin one device when you can save two?
