I thought I'd stop by and relate a story that definitely got my blood pumping a bit. I had one of those "This is why I play" moments, and thought some of you might enjoy it.
The background: I've been operating a low sec research POS in a relatively quiet 0.3 system. I've finally reached faction standings that enable me to relocate the POS to corp HQ in high-sec space. That was my mission this morning. The POS is fairly standard: medium tower, 6 labs, corp hangar, a few turrets and EW. I slowly but surely get the labs and turrets offlined, unanchored, and into the cargo bay of my Iteron V.
Finally all that's left is the tower itself. Realizing that offlining the tower will drop the shield and expose my fragile ship, I check Local, find it completely empty, and Offline/Unanchor the tower. Here is my first "Oh sh*t" moment... 1 hour to unanchor the tower?! With no POS shield, and about 600mil in cargo, and another 200mil for the unanchoring tower, I suddenly feel very vulnerable.
But this has always been a quiet system... no NPC station, so the infrequent traffic is almost always just passers-through. A few pilots come and go, and I know that its about 30 seconds to travel from one gate to the next. They're all gone in that amount of time. My POS has about 30 minutes left to unanchor, and a new pilot pops into Local. 30 seconds pass, and he's still here. I check his corp, and sit upright in my chair when I see it's a known pirate corp that I've had dealings with before. I know they aren't rookies.
I scan for ships at 360 and max range, and see nothing. I scan again, this time looking for probes, and sure enough... Snoop Scanner Probe. &^#%! He's using a close range probe and faster than I would have suspected, so I figure him for a Cov Ops frig. But knowing this corp is locally based, I'm certain he has friends close.
Realizing (with great sadness) that I have no safespots set up in this system, I immediately warp to a random planet, and set up 2 bookmarks along the way. I let him know that I know I'm being hunted, in hopes that he'll move on:
Rax Blacktag: I smell scanner probes! XXXX: I smell a really bad smell XXXX: Somewhere in my room XXXX: No seriously, where is that coming from?
He doesn't leave I continue to warp between safespots, creating new ones along the way. I'm scanning the whole time, and finally see he's downgraded to fathom probes. This means I'm winning I also catch his ship uncloaked, and it is indeed a Helios named "Huge Secure Containe"
Rax Blacktag: Never been hunted by a Huge Secure Container before XXXX: I dont want to attack you XXXX: Im just bored XXXX: lol I hope your working your ass off XXXX: because I haven't moved in ages, haha
I WAS working my ass off, but...
Rax Blacktag: business as usual for me =)
At this point, the dreaded happens. Reinforcements arrive -- His, not mine. Two more pilots from his corp in system, unknown ships (not like it matters, me being in an Iteron V). I can't dock (No stations), can't flee to high-sec (low sec systems on both sides, and I've hit enough gate camps in this area to steer clear of unscouted gatejumping). And I'm not the loggofski sort. All I can do is keep warping, so I do.
Mercifully, they leave the system shortly thereafter, and I'm relieved as all hell. I warp back to my unanchoring tower which should have about 10 mins left. Before I even arrive back at the tower, 2 new pilots arrive in system. They are from one of the larger 0.0 alliances, so I'm hopeful they'll pass through and ignore me. I'm actively scanning now, because I've become paranoid... sure enough: fathom scanner probe. ^%@$! I can also see their ships: Cov Ops, and Command Ship. My tower has 5 minutes left, and I jump back into warp. Fortunately I have plenty of safespots this time After a few minutes:
Rax Blacktag: hard to scan a target who knows he's being scanned, huh? ZZZZ: funny enough I was just thinking that lol ZZZZ: I will leave you to it :) cont...

Rax Blacktag: =) ZZZZ: Fly safe Rax Blacktag: Back at ya
Both pilots leave system, my tower is finished unanchoring, and about 2 minutes later my armed escort arrives to escort me back to high-sec.
This is why I play the game... even when I have no options but to run around like a pansy just hoping not to get caught, my blood gets flowing.
Paranoia is your friend. It saved me 800mil this morning =)
Longer than I intended, and I know it's not a terribly unique experience, but I thought I'd share it anyway.

I've said it before many times- PVP isn't just pewpewing at each other. Escape, evasion, and using your head to escape a trap, pitting your wits against someone trying to take you down can definitely get your heart thumping.
Good job and good story.

Indeed it would, but this character being an industrial alt, I haven't bothered to train for that

I like this story better than some carebear whining that the ebil pie rats tried to kill him.
Wish more carebears thought this way.
Even better idea next time:
Have your armed escort with you from the get go incase someone does scan you down. Atleast you'll have a fighting chance.

Yeah I agree totally with the earlier poster... You didn't fight but this is a very interesting story because you had to out smart the hunters. No complaining. Just understanding the situation, and finding a way around it. That's actually kind of pirate-like even if it didn't involve shooting. Good job!
