Edited by: Allestin Villimar on 12/08/2007 09:32:12 Edited by: Allestin Villimar on 12/08/2007 09:31:33 So I got this mission recently about an outpost under attack in Amarr space. I haven't gotten it before in any level and I haven't had any problems doing level 4s in my raven up until this (even Worlds Collide). It's against Guristas and it's an Amarr mission.
It starts out easy enough with about 8-12 cruisers/BCs at ~75km and 3-4 battleships at around 25km. But once you blow up a battleship, 4-5 more BSs and tons of cruisers/BCs spawn at 120 km and immediately attack (and can hit even at that range). I usually can't even see the damage I'm doing due to the sheer number of missiles flying in my direction. I can't seem to outrange their attacks (they're at 100km+ and hitting me with heavy missiles? Wish mine could do that), and even using a t2 extra large shield booster I run out of shields (82% kinetic/78% thermal) long before I run out of cap, and I can't even warp in and bring down 1-2 ships before I have to warp out again due to the 20+ ships that are attacking me. Should I be using more than 1 bcu with my torps? If I try and use my drones (t2 mediums) the cruisers at 75km will agro and destroy them, then agro me if I pull them back in.
So how are you supposed to do this mission?

the trick is to take down the BCs first and leve the battle ships to last. the BCs seam to do a lot more damage than the BSs but they also die a lot faster.

You need to look carefully at the Battleships - normally the BS that is different from the others, or the one with the highest bounty is the trigger for the next spawn. So basically leave the odd-one-out until last. Last couple of times I have done this mission there was a "Pith Destroyer" (Raven) which is the unique trigger for the next waves.

It's always reasonable to read up from relevant websites mission decription if it's new mission for you.
As far as triggers go. In Gurista version highest bounty BS is trigger. Usually Pith Destroyer but Pith Conqistadors are also sometimes triggers.

Yeah I actually couldn't find it on any mission sites that I go to. I don't know if it's new or what. But I've cancelled it since I can't warp in without the reinforcements automatically arriving, so I'll just keep the BCs in mind next time I get it.

I love this mission, but if things go wrong, they go very wrong. I lost a Domi on the Serpentis version of this mission yesterday. Usual problems:
1. I kill "first" group no problems. Move to next group. Despite constant supervision and micromanaging, drones aggro wrong ship - as soon as they attack the BS, more spawn. Left group of BSs decide to join in the fun. About 85% of the ships are now on me. Even with my perma-running, high resistance tank, the Domi cannot last forever against that many ships. Prepare to flee and align for warp. "You cannot warp because you are warp scrambled." Oh, there are new scramblers in the respawn. That's nice.
2. Try to recall heavy drones to put out lights to kill scramblers, heavy drones get stuck together and cannot be recalled (or sent after another target). Unalign from warp to fly towards heavy drones (at Domi slowboat speed). Get heavy drones back. Launch Hobgoblin IIs. Realign for warp. Kill scramblers with 50% hull left. Yay! DCU II is going to save me again! "Warp drive active." Bumped by NPC battleship. Doh! Ship goes out of control.
3. Collect insurance.
4. Buy new Domi. Put 2x Auxillary Nano Pumps and 1x CCC rig on it.
5. Complete mission with even better tank on new Domi. New tank is so much better it isn't even funny. ------------

Never had a problem with the assault in my dominix: reach 65 km, release the warden and snipe scrambled frigates or all the frigates you see :) when battleships are at 30km from you scoop warden and fly away at max speed firing at any target of opportunity and releasing medium or heavy keeping flying away. This way you can tank all the room with just 1 lar 2, if you sit and try to tank you will be dust. ALWAYS kill any frigates first in any lvl 4 mission

This was the first L4 i did ( last week) got it market down as 'medium' had no problems, kill the BC's first & im using a cruise CNR, cruise FTW. didnt even unload the drones on this one. Hardest time ive had so far is Angel extrav, Guristas was easy but Angels, jees.

Except in Guristas Extravaganza which will spawn more waves. Hard and fast rules may be easy to memorize but they are not foolproof and will get you killed on occassion.

Versus serpentiis this mission is actually quite easy in an Ishtar, just fit a drone range mod to get 85+km wardens, start taking out the groups in order, small ships first, and when the whole room aggroes, orbit one of the BS who by now are close to you, activate the AB, MARII, hardeners and release the ogre II`s. With a couple of cap rigs and cap recharger II`s AB, hardeners and MAR will permarun, and since most of the BS fail to hit you, its almost like a combined armor/speed tank.
Takes a while in the Ishtar (90 mins or so when taking it easy), but its an easy 20 or so mill in bounties plus average to good loot and salvage. I love this mission and grin happily every time I get it... :) "He was quite mad and knew it very well, but being mad he did not care" |
