So these miners do they HAVE to use crystals? Also how often do these crystals get broken/used up? The base is 360m3, with crystals its another 360m3, so they both add up or what?
I use a Strip Miner I, and that is 530m3 base. Im guessing with Modulated Strip II Ill do alot more? btw I use a Retreiver.
Second, ice mining. I dont know much about it and never done it, and there is a good sized ice field near me, should I start mining it(if I get the skills)? -DS- |

Never use a T2 Strip without Crystals. A T1 strip gets better yield than a crystal-less T2 strip.
A T2 Strip with a T1 Crystal will give you an 8.3% better yield per laser over a T1 Strip.
A T2 Strip with a T2 Crystal will give you a 16.7% better yield per laser over a T1 Strip.
You don't have to use crystals, but it would be kinda dumb to use T2 strips without 'em. (-33% dumber)

There is a % chance of damage to the crystal with every activation, but I've never had a crystal burn out on me. OK, I don't do that much mining, but I've mined quite a bit over the past months.
As for ice mining... I personally think that you'll make more money doing regular mining. Ice mining only really becomes viable with T2 ice harvesters and a mack, and then you only tend to do it because you need to.

It takes a pretty long time to burn through Crystals. I haven't kept track or anything, but I think my Omber II Crystals last for between a half mil or mil m3 worth of ore. That's a guess, mind you, but odds are you won't be burning up any crystals the day you buy 'em. --- Wherever you go, there you are.

This raises questions:
If I use a crystal and then unload it, is it partially used?
Can I repair it?
Can I sell it?
and most importantly - how do I avoid buying a crystal that is well used and about to pop?
Or do they just go from 100% good to 100% bad in one hit?

yes
no
yes, but not on market
no, they take damage randomly over time, it is actually a bit annoying having a bunch of crystals in hanger with the 1000 item limit

Thanks Lurtz.
I'd buy a container for your crystals and you'll never reach your 1000 item limit. Cheers Baka ______________________ Have a Skill in training every second of every day and never buy a ship you can't afford to replace at least once. |
