Reconaissance is fun too.
I loaded up my Rifter the other day with 2 racks of defenders and a smartbomb, put on an MWD and a cold gas ab, some nanofibers in the low slots and headed out to DEEP 0.0 space.
It's actually interesting to be out there. Hardly anybody there, mostly just the isolated battleship hunting cruiser rats in the belts. There are some nice spawns out there, guarding mostly hedbergite and hemophite.
At least in the area that I was scouting, I started seeing bisot about 30 jumps from the nearest station. Too bad those belts were guarded by and 85k and 3x40k and some 15k rats.
Again the problem is not finding the belts, and getting the ore, but it's getting the ore OUT of those regions. Why? Because stations in those areas attract player pirates like dung attracts dung beetles.
Pirates will happily let you pass by going towards the 0.0 space, but if they see a mammoth going BACK towards civilized space, they will flock to it like sharks to a bleeding sheep in the water.
The trick is to have bookmarks going TOWARDS your objective, and going BACK. And it's going to take a LONG time to get there and back anyway.

Sorry but u dont need to go 30 jumps from a station to find decent ores, ill even give u a system name right now.
U3K-4A, over in the Curse region has ark there, but go in through the great wild lands regions, and station is only 4-5 jumps away :D have fun

Is that what is making the mega prices plummet since a couple of days? The introduction of the new jump gates?

That and/or the new stations meaning you can haul the minerals back 35 jumps, instead of the bulky ore.

Right, the stations too. I hadn't realized the effect those changes would have on mineral prices.
Still, I'm surprised that it's just megacyte that's falling in price. Zydrine seems to stay high. Any ideas to why that is?

Because everyone mines arkonor or bistot for highes profit, still I wonder if mining crockite is becoming as fruitful compared to market prices. Anyway all these ores have 16 m3 volume and are mostly found at the same belts, so no wonder if you have a crockite and an arkanor rock besides you whom would you lcok and start working on with those mining lasers.

Simply put, everyone has megacyte fever.
Everyone mining bistot and ark means there is very little Zydrine coming into the market in comparison to the megacyte that is the main yields that people are interested in.
I can partly understand why CCP removed ark. Whilst its nice that its high in mega, the production side requires between 3 to 5 times the amount of zydrine in builds as it does megacyte (highly dependant on product).
The zydrine prices are already very high (3.5-4x NPC), whilst the megacyte prices occasionally drop. You will soon find someone buying up all the megacyte and re-pricing it to a higher rate anyway. If people didn't do that, I am sure prices of products high in requirements for both would probably equal out a bit.
I would agree, Crokite would be a good ore to refine if you wanted a steadier price for your minerals, alternatively a production corp that was willing to buy all your zydrine in one go, they will most likely need it more then mega normally. Still, people see money symbols when they see mega producing ores
Edit: I think if they dropped the refine requirements or capacity of Crokite/Spod a little to compare with Bistot/Ark, they would probably be mined a little more as well.
On the shear maths side, requiring 250 of one ore which takes up 16m3, and only 200 of another ore which is the same size, well you have to haul 80% less ore to get a refine and make more money in each refine.
I think that maths is simple enough to state why Crok/Spod aren't mined as much in other peoples eyes.
Drop Spod and Crok to 12m3, and I am sure instantly you would see people mining more of it.
