For those that don't know the G15 gaming keyboard gives you an extra 18 function keys. It's split up into 3 banks of 6 keys. Then you have an option to have 3 different setups for each bank. All these keys do is emulate another keystroke so say you hit G1-6 that could actually be set up for ctrl-alt-shift-f1 - f6. So there are a lot of possibilities for extra on the fly hotkeys.
My question is there are a lot of tedious right click, scroll over and done, select whatever type commands. Is there any way to assign a set of keys to some of these so I can then assign them to the G keys? One in particular that I can think of is the Orbit command. Is there some way to set up some keys to do orbit 1000, 5000, 10000, 20000, ect to a hotkey?
I did quite a bit of searching around but all I could find are threads about utilizing the LCD for things and the ability for the key board to macro things. Nothing specifically about how to utilize the extra bank of keys.

Edited by: Ki Tarra on 15/08/2007 17:06:47 AFAIK, there is no way to map mouse clicks to those keys. But you can still put them to use for key combinations: example F1-F8 with a single button. Because of these limitations, the G15 is not concidered a violation of the anti-macro portion of the EULA.
As for the best way to use those keys, that would really depend on your style of game play. What do you find yourself using on your keyboard?
Edit - as a side note, you can rearange the keys for activating your modules by dragging the modules around while in space.

Edited by: Tailhook on 15/08/2007 17:08:47 I have the smaller G11 version, I basicly use the spare keys for combo presses, so I can activate any module with only one keypress, be carefull what else you set up, EULA quote:
*edit* May be irrelevant according to former post
You may not use macros or other stored rapid keystrokes or other patterns of play that facilitate acquisition of items, currency, objects, character attributes, rank or status at an accelerated rate when compared with ordinary Game play. You may not rewrite or modify the user interface or otherwise manipulate data in any way to acquire items, currency, objects, character attributes or beneficial actions not actually acquired or achieved in the Game.
The LCD display can be used by EVEmon I belive.

Here's specifically what I want to use it for. I would like; G13 = approach G14 = orbit at 5000 G15 = orbit at 20000 G16 = orbit 24000 G17 = orbit at 35000 or something pretty far G18 = warp to 0 a specified book mark
My plan is to fly an Inty in PvP and as an inty you have to really be on the ball with your orbit distance. If I could somehow say assign orbit at 20000 to ctrl-alt-shift-f10 then I can assign that to the G15 key so G15 = ctrl-alt-shift-f10 key. That would eliminate the times that I right click on something in the overview and it shifts up and down or I click orbit 1000 instead of what I wanted.
So is something like this possible? I do already have bank 1 and 2 to function as my hi and mid slots but those have default keys already set up. G1 = f1, G2 = F2, ect..

Sorry, but this is not currently possible as there is no way to asign keyboard short cuts to those commands.
What you could do is G1 = F1+F2+F3+F4 to activate all you weapons with a single button.

Yah I already thought about that. The problem is I actual like the control of splitting targets for different weapons. Plus I figured that fell under the whole 'marco' thing.

i have trying to do same thing on my g15 aas well but like earler post not gonna happen unless we can asign them to a hot key. as for seprate target for diferent wepon thats easy enough to do. like my rohk 4 long range guns turns on on one key the othe 4 shorter range on another. so for the long range target hit one hit the other for the shorter range one ect. or with my raven have the missle launch turn on in a sequence with pauses so i have one continue stream of cruise missle being lunch with no large pauses like in a voley. work well for breaking tanks and with a continous stream shield booster effectivness is somewhat diminished

Don't expect CCP to change this, CCP are not keen to encourage macro or AFK users....if they assign hotkeys, you'll get savvy programmers cheating the game. This is the same reason why autopilot doesn't warp to zero. They wan't you to be at the keyboard playing and make it disadvantageous for those who are AFK, especially those that are totally absent (e.g left the computer logged on to Eve while they went to work).
While I understand your intentions are good, the mods you would like are open to abuse. Cheers Baka ______________________ Have a Skill in training every second of every day and never buy a ship you can't afford to replace at least once. |
