So I am almost nearly specilised in battleships but after brightening up my naviagtion I decided to train Interceptors. Now after looking at previous setups it seems quite tricky getting the balance between Cap and effectiveness (Speed + Jammers).
I will be mainly using this setup for gangs around 5 - 15 people.
My first setup I came up with was this.
Taranis
125mm Railgun II [80xIridium Charge S] 125mm Railgun II [80xIridium Charge S] 125mm Railgun II [80xIridium Charge S]
1MN MicroWarpdrive II Warp Disruptor II Cap Recharger II
Overdrive Injector System II Nanofiber Internal Structure II Nanofiber Internal Structure II
322.265625 cap, +5.1/s, -9.596/s 5877.0 m/s
I have found 2 major problems with this, one is cap usage is extreme + tracking on 125mm is touch and go.
I realise I can swap the MWD + Scram so I get less cap usage but I havent found a solid setup yet. I am also new at flying ceptors so any flying advice is welcome.

Edited by: Corphus on 17/08/2007 13:18:25 the problem of the taranis is its mass which makes it kinda slow and his insane capuseage. i always flew taranis with closerange fitting:
3 ionblaster II with null and void in cargo MwdII, scrambler, web magfield stab II, dmgcontrol, auxpowercore 2 warrior II drones
this setup isnt very fast but the roughly 4km/s are sufficient for a ceptor with guns. tracking tends to be a big problem if u try to mwd and fire ur guns, esecially 125mm rails which track by far worse than blasters.
however i get around 150dps out of my taranis using the 1.9 sec rof on the ions and the 2 warriors. a small pack of taranis can overwhelm even bs. for example: some months ago i was escorting a freighter with ma m8. we both had taranis with closerange fitting. once we jumped tru a gate we were spotted by a lone TII fitted stabber. he engaged the freighter, we engaged him. he died in less than 20 seconds.
the only thing i can advise u is to use ur mwd only for approching and getting into orbit of ur target. once u reached it turn off mwd, continue orbiting at ur normal max speed and disrupt and fire away. remember as an interceptor in gang fights ur primary aim is to disrupt the target and not to deal dmg. keep ur disruptor running at all costs even if this means turning ur guns off. with a closerange fitting u can run guns, scram and web without any problem. mwd is usually turned off since at a 3500m/s orbiting speed even on blaster wont hit.
edit: with the upcoming nos nerf the taranis will have some advantage vs nos again since its cap is always very thin using weapons and tackiling gear.

As above, but add an offline small armor rep in that empty highslot just incase a gangmate needs it. Also consider 2 small armor rep bots for on-the-fly wingman healage.

DC2 is a must have, as it adds a lot of survivability. Don't use nanofibers either. For fleet setups the best is rails + 24km + cap recharger + pds + dc2 combo, imho.
You may want to fit one low friction (agility) rig also. It's cheap one rig and the agility is what ranis lacks, imho.

A fleet setup without a webber is not what I'd prefer.
I'm always using 3 Neutrons II, Small Knave Nos, X5 Webber, Fleeting Disruptor, MWD II, MAPC, Cap Power Relay, DC/Overdrive. 350 Wreckings are fun.
I pew therefore I am.

No one needs your dps in a fleet. Also going into web range is kinda suicidal... In a fleet all whats needed from you is to keep a steady point as long as possible.

In that case you might as well take an Ares, which has 4 lows, better speed, less cap usage, and therefore better cap sustainability.
EDIT: Less cap usage due to room for a CPR or two.

True. Ares is better as fleet interceptor due to speed, cap, locking range and speed, warping speed, signature radius. But I prefer to use ranis and have warriors out to chase enemy ceptors around.
