Tritanium, EvE's most common mineral. Everyone has heard of it, everyone uses something that is made up of it, but not many people have tried moving it.
To make anything in EvE, you need a lot of Tritanium, it's the way of EvE. A Rokh, for example (to satisfy all those Caldari users) takes 14,557,790 (Fourteen Million, Five Hundred Fifty Seven Thousand, Seven Hundred and Ninety) Tritanium to build, before skills. An Iteron Mark V can hold about 3,000,000 (Three Million)Tritanium.
So, to move enough Tritanium with an Iteron Mark V to build a Rokh will take about 4.85 (rounded up to 5) trips. So depending on how many jumps you need to go, this can take a really long time.
With Tritanium being the most common Mineral, you would think that someone would come up with a way to compress the Tritanium so that it takes up less M^3. (Meters Cubed)
So what I suggest is one or two things:
1: Make it so that Tritanium takes up half as much space (from 0.01m^3 to 0.005m^3) so that it is actually time efficient to move Tritanium. Because, lets admit, we all don't have hours on end to move Minerals.
2: Make a module or a station resource that you can use to compress Tritanium and maybe other low end Minerals.

Heaven forbid you should find some intelligent way of having others move that trit for you.
That would just be too difficult.

People already use certain modules to compress trit and other minerals. (passive targeters anyone?)
Plus, the Rorqual will be able to compress ore (though it might only be able to be flown in lowsec/nosec).
Silas
p.s.- the compression modules are getting nerfed or so I hear.

you would think in the space ages and **** they could have a reverse graviton field that makes the trits mass down to 0. By reversing the polarity of the of the SL modified, anti heterosexual beam, and projecting it through a small quartz glass filled with a Greme's saliva, the result should make the trits mass down to 0. But be careful, in turn the heterosexual beam is in FACT A HOMOSEXUAL BEAM :O, the resulting reprecussions will make the trits mass OVER NINE THHHHHHHHHHHHHHOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSANNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDD

You got to the party late The ORE capital ship will do ore (but not mineral) compression, which will reduce hauling in mining ops greatley, while CCP will actuley be nurfing the current player implemented form of mineral compression, of which there is a huge thread here discussing the changes talked about in CCP Chronotis's devblog here, i sugest you have a read. -

Anyone heard of Freighters?
True I would love to see the current freighters bumped upp to become big sister freighters and there be introduced little sister ones with... say 100.000m3 cargo but untill then sadly you have to go for the big one.
Naturally there are betetr ways to ship minerals, oddly enough when you build some items from minerals the finished prodict is alot smaller than the raw materials. I supose EvE manufacturers are using the same technology that allows an item to be bigger on the inside, cant seem to recall what its called now but...
Anyhow, if you have perfect refining skills you can actually build certain items, haul them and crunch them at the other end at a very small loss rate. This has been used for ages by mining and 0.0 corps to haul huge volumes of minerals. I think there is some dev blog out about upping the loss but I have not heard anything indicating this would be an exploit.
Personally Im about to move 118.503.000 units of minerals. At 0.01m3 each that comes to 1.285.030m3 of minerals, I wonder if I can manage that in one go with my freighter (and yes that lot is for one ship).

Well to fly a freighter at reasonable speeds you have to train the skills to speed it up, but you're right, that isn't a good solution because who wants to train skills and have to wait?? This really needs to be fixed!

I am not in-game to check details but I think your math is missing somewhere.
I say that because I know for a fact my Charon moves ~94 million mineral units in one go. a maxed out Charon would be something like 98.6 million units (I forget exatcly but that is the largest cargo hold in the game).

Mine the ****in' stuff in the system you're building in. No need to move it then!
Or, to save a bit of time in transit try using cargo rigs, expanders, and giant containers.
My Mastodon with skills at lvl 4, 2 x cargo rigs, 5 x T2 expanders, and 9 x giant containers, can carry 37,342.6 m3 or 3,734,260 units of trit. This takes you down to 4 runs per Rokh.

They were planning to make it so that you only get (with highest refinery skill and the best facilities) only 80% of the minerals back when you reprocess, unlike now when you can get pretty much 100% back. It seems they've changed their mind and pushed the change to the future instead of next patch though. ------------------

To build a Rokh, all you need to do is haul everything else to where the Trit is. Which can be done in 2 runs, one if you really push.

With so many suicide gankers taking out freighters just for fun, it's not an option for me. I sold my freighter after using it only once. I was not on AP and it's surprising how many alts in small ships sit near gates all day scanning any large ship that comes past in highsec. Do it in a slow hauler one day and see how many move closer to get in tagetting/scanning range.
Freighters need to be able to tank to some degree or they are just worthless except as a big fat bullseye for gankers.

As amusingly ******** as your post was. He has a point.
This was a key logistical problem, and the current solution is being removed. This will have a lot of ramifications through out the various markets.
Hopefully, it'll kill alot of the blob warfare, simply because replacing those battleships will be a fair bit more of a hassle. (Although there's an equal chance it will tilt the other way, causing people to bring more firepower to bear to lessen the chance their units will be lost...) ____________________ Skill Showroom |

Depends on where you want to haul it to, but usually selling all your trit in station, then move to the new location in a frig and buy it all there works too. As you say, trit is everywhere so it's not really necessary to move it around. Just buy it where you need it and sell it where you gain it.
Heck, you might even make a small profit on it. And if you have to buy at a loss, consider it a compensation for the hauling time you have to do otherwise.

For instance: this module This takes 25m3 packaged when the trit unit is 0.01m3 packaged. So you see if you convert your trit into modules (there are certainly better ones than this one) you can save a lot of space.
Of course, high reprocessing skills are needed.
Quote:
Specialization in Scrapmetal processing and refining. Increases reprocessing returns for modules, ships and other reprocessable equipment. 5% reduction in ship and module refining waste per skill level.
So you build the module, put in iteron and reprocess at destination.

Edited by: Ather Ialeas on 20/08/2007 11:25:40 I wouldn't mind seeing tritanium's requirements go down to one tenth in everything possible. Of course the mining yields should be adjusted to similar levels so that it'd balance to same "efficiency" as it currently is.
Hauling tritanium is actually why I had to shut down my alt corp about half a year ago: After the corporation lost its freighter pilot (he got ****ed at t20 thing and deleted his character, thanks CCP...) we just didn't have the means to haul our weekly supply of 35M trit efficiently. Ah yes, because you should be able to build the largest class of non-capital ship with no work or effort at all! Obviously! Why didn't the EVE-O community think of it earlier?
Consider, for a moment, building a battleship IRL. Big thing. Takes about a decade. The metal has to be shipped in in literally thousands of lorry trips.
Obviously RL comparisons are worth poo in an MMO, but I still think that 6 or 7 hauler loads for a massive battleship seems about right, all things considered.... --------

Look at this one! hardener You can compress 39k tritanium along with other minerals into 5m3! That means if your Iteron V can hold 20km3, which is easy, you can carry 15 million 600k trit in one trip...

Originally by: Mega Thong Tritanium, EvE's most common mineral.
2: Make a module or a station resource that you can use to compress Tritanium and maybe other low end Minerals.
buy a frieghter, if ya can fly a mark V you're most of the way there..

What I find really amusing is that in RL, there is a ship that was built in 1979. you can google it under the "Jahre Viking", and it currently can take 650,000 m3 of petroleum when fully loaded. now, given eve is in the reals of fantasy/space and future why do we not have ships that carry a considerable amount more than that.
I'd be intereseted in CCP's justification as to why the ships in eve have much less cargo space than the existing ships of today.

Originally by: MotherMoon math time! without expanding the cargo lol 6000m/s on a iteron mark v, that's 13 condessed, but you can get another one AT least by expanded so we'll use... 14 condensed veldspar. 1 unit of condensed velds par takes up 417m/s and refines for 478,000
that equals 6,692,000 veldspar without expanding the cargo. on a t1 ship.
why are people *****ing about the change to mineral compression on items again?
ok you get your get your ship up to... 12,000m/s cargo space. meaning with the nre compression (which is a high sec ship they allready said it would be.)(other cap ships aren't allowed because they are faction ships, and for the sake of peace they have to stay out. This is an ORE ship, and thus no reason for it not to be in high sec just like a freighter)
now that makes...
13755395 trit in one run.
now you buy a freighter, which is bigger than the mining cap ship and is high sec as well. lets see...
the fenrir holds, 72,000m/s with the 417 trit that makes... 82,532,372 trit in one trip. get a titan and jump this baby and a few others home form empire space, which kills the trit and raises the price, and BAM. you just made what, 6 battleships? ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP

Agreeeeeeeeeeeeed with the OP. The millions of tons of minerals and materials required for a battleship of epic proportions to be built should be moved in a matter of minutes in a ship that actually is a lot smaller than the ship you are planning to build.
now, If you skip the sarcasm... no. It's supposed to be a heavy task dealing with logistics and it's already too easy. cycles and chains tend to spiral downwards if they're too easy to do and from an RP point of view it's really required not to deal with it too easily. -----------------------------------------------

Construction in EVE has always been a bit weird in terms of the Minerals -> Item nature of Tech 1 items. In my opinion, the pathway should always have been Ore -> Minerals -> Components -> Item, or similar with Ore being larger then Minerals, Minerals larger then Components but Item much larger then Components and Minerals.

To be frankly honest, there is no need to complain about what CCP is doing for this game. It is all good when they nerf Trit. because finally there will be jobs for the hauling community in eVe.

Nerfing tritanium would make it bad for haulers not good.

Tritanium is ment to be a logistical nightmare and for a valid reason.. since pretty much everything use it for everything from basic frame of weapons to the huge hulls on Battleships. I hate to say this but he actualy got a point. it is purely logical that they would try someway to compress it however i dont actualy think that they ever managed to do it beceause it started to become more volitile the more you try to compress it thus making it so that the curent standards is the maximum compressed volume.
