Edited by: Olreik on 22/08/2007 13:11:54 Well I'm an Amarr Khanid. I have 13.5 Mill sp including Amarr frigate 5, Amarr Cruiser 5, and Amarr Battleship 4. I also have Gallante frigate 5. I have over 2 million sp in drones because I wanted to fly a curse/pilgrim. The question is; is it even worth it to continue training Amarr (most of my sp is in general skills that work with all races, besides Amarr cruiser 5)? I've been flip flopping with this decision for months, and since the nos nerf hits the curse and pilgrim hard. Should I just ignore my 1.5 mill sp in Amarr ships and train Gallante? (I do have aspirations of eventual PvP and I also see the Dominix as a better mission runner)
Is it worth being worthless?

In your situation, I would train up to Gallente Cruisers (with Battlecruisers), but ignore hybrids or any further drone skill training. For PvE, I would just take a Myrmidon, use my usual armor tank, slap on a single laser for aggro, and unleash the drones upon those poor helpless rats. For PvP, I'd stay the course. With their alpha strike and tank, I fail to see why the big Amarr ships wouldn't do fine in most PvP situations. Beats wasting time getting a ship that is only marginally better, time that could be better spent perfecting my current skill set. ---

Edited by: madykor on 22/08/2007 14:24:20 I would also agree that staying focused on one race would be much better. You can also use battlecruisers such as the Myrm to do rat specific damage.

I would stick with Amarr ships, and maybe try some of the Khanid Mk IIs out if I wanted to branch out. ------------

Thanks for the replies. It just feels like the Amarr have been breeding with the jove. With our current state of "ships" I feel like I'm going to die of the Jove Disease when I get into combat. If the grass is always greener on the other side, what do the Caldari, Gallante, and Minnies see when they look at us?

I see an Abaddon that I really want to fly, but don't have the time to train for. Same goes for the Harbinger and a couple of the others.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my Gallente ships (and my Minmatar and Caldari ships on my other accounts), but I think each race has some very nice ships if they are used properly. ------------

The amarr have the armageddon, abaddon, harbinger, curse(still useful after the nos nerf), zealot and sac(both will be decent after the patch as well), the absolution, and the arbitrator. so you've got useful ships throughout the ship classes. Gallente are better for solo pvp, this can't be argued, but how often do/will you actually get solo pvp? Amarr ships are great for gangs IMO for their ability to put out nice DPS as soon as they drop out of warp without having to MWD to their targets or waiting for their drones to get on their targets. Granted EM damage can be a bit of a nerf on armour tanks, but it still does good dps at ranges where gallente won't even hit. ------------

I am in someways in the reverse of your position. A Gallente character who decided early that I hated blaster boats and who cross trained to Amarr and Minmatar.
Now I have slightly more SP than you currently do and am not regreting my choice at all. Although I alternate between an Armageddon and a Typhoon I prefer the Geddy for 0.0. I will be flying Amarr hacs and recons within 10 days and looking forward to both.
After the Khanid change the Sacriliege, malediction and Vengeance look nice, even if it means spending a couple of weeks brushing up missile skills.
Curse is still viable platform even if pilgrim is a bit broken. Zealot is also looking pretty sweet if the current Sisi changes make it to TQ.
As another poster said solo pvp is not that common - even if it is the Amarr have several viable choices now. For gang or fleet work they are even better. Ignore some (not all) of the Amarr whining.
However cross training a little for variety would not hurt. Getting enough Gallente and blaster skills for a Myrmidon would not take long seeing as your drone skills are good - just don't give up on Amarr.

I know how you feel Olreik, i felt the same in my early Amarr days, so much so i trained Cal for a little while and went with there ships.
But i'm now back with Amarr and really like them, its just a case of getting used to em. And we really do have some great ships, its just a case of training. Once get decent support skills it does transfer across to all ships. Then its just a case of which ship you want to pound people with after that.
The new changes coming our way will be a little different but i think it will be good overall, the NoS change will hit our recons fairly bad, but i think we'll Adapt to it, and we'll see more Neuts on the Curse and people calling to a nerf for that then...
Just got in the Absolution, and with T2 med Pulses and a very good tank/Gank its an awesome ship.
Glad your sticking with Amarr. --------------

I've sticked to Amarr aswell. It's a bit rough in the start, but when you pump skills in tanking and gunnery, then it begins to be funny.

Amarr is certainly still worth it.
One remark though, I'm not sure about the pilgrim, as I don't fly it that much, but the Curse has become more powerful with the coming patch. Don't let them tell you anything else. Just think out of the box and think nanoCurse. It will suck harder than ever before.
The Khanids I'm really looking forward to myself. the only amarr ship that looks a bit obsolete atm is the Apoc, but plans are in the making for that one too.
All the other ships are quite performant.

OMG, I'm insulted by the mere question :). Amarr is the only race to play. What race can effectively shoot high DPS rainbows as well as Amarr? Answer that, and you'll find the answer to your question.

I wouldn't write out Amarr yet. It is true that the basic premise of their design was somewhat... one-dimensional. But there's no way that CCP can let the race become totally uncompetitive. Eventually, they'll get a boost; and as is the general rule with MMO balancing issues, that boost will inadvertently make them OP for about 4 months before being dialed back to sane levels.
I wouldn't fear sticking with the Amarr, in other words.
It's not like they COMPLETELY suck, of course. It's just that the percentage of their ships that suck is higher then everyone else's. It doesn't help that some of their cooler looking ships happen to fall into that catagory...

If you specialize, you will get nerfed. Pick 2 different races you like that have some shared skills, get skills to L4 rather than maxing every bit of one ship to L5, just to have it all get ruined by some patch. Then you get more variety as well as nerf-resistance.

Saddly, with a lot of the top tier 2 ships, level 4 is simply not enough to really make them good.
There was a day when Minmatar were laughed at and Amarr were the kings of pvp. I know this sounds hard, but it was the case. The Gallente have always been strong, and eventually the Minmatar will suck again, the Amarr will rule, the Caldari will get a missle buff and the gallente will still kill everyone. . .

Hi,
I have most PVP relevant skills on lvl 5 + have only trained for amarr since I have been born.
Must say I love being amarr. My DPS in an absolution (skills maxed + extra's ) is redicilous. The only thing is you lack in midslots. What makes it a great race in gangs, but less in solo (not allways for example a maxed out abad + implants is scary).
But that said the Gallente have great ships, i think some the best out there.
Do commit on one race, you gonna hate yourself having trained everything on lvl 3-4 but nothing specialised.
Good luck M8!

I love my lasers and the huge DPS they bring to the table. I also love being the less common race of ships out there.

Train missiles and get yourself into new Khandid ships. New Sacrilege looks amazing.
Also the Curse/Piligrim nerf is not that bad. Combination of neutralizers, and using your cap like mad so you can drain theirs can get trick done. I'm experimenting on my NOS-a-'phoon right now, actually.

The curse is still a good ship after the nos changes. The pilgrim however isn't. From the ship handling and tactics those 2 ships are very different, something most people who never flown them fail to understand.
On the t2 cruiser lvl the curse and sacriledge are the "good" ships.
