Believe it or not, I only owe(d) him 750 million. He got 500 million of the 1.25 billion immediately.
Out of curiosity, I sent him the rest of his 1.25 billion, and we'll see how many more pages the flaming continues, to the tune of "You only paid because you got shamed."

Why do we need to smack? You paid the debt, and the problem is now resolved. Not much more to talk about tbh, good on ya for paying up.

Edited by: Nexa Necis on 23/08/2007 23:03:29 I think it's a good thing that you paid. It sounded like Siren definitely deserved it.
I read his posts here and he said himself that people are jumping the gun and bashing you before you had a chance to reply.
I think had you presented your case, regardless of the bashers, your rep wouldn't have been tarnished but maybe a tiny bit. Then if you followed through with the communal opinion decision, your rep would be back to normal or at least untarnished.
Even with you paying at this point, the damage has definitely been done.
Still at least you paid.

Till your first post it was easily salvageable, with words like 'I told Siren I would deal with it when I got back; I've now sent him the money'. Those would have maintained your reputation towards those not already biased with you.
Now you're projecting attitude, that you do will hold on deals, unless the other party gives you excuse to get out.
If you're man of word and an in mistake made a deal with an *hole, you still gotta go through the deal; not because the party is honorable but because you value your own reputation. After the deal you get to ignore hi, or take your revenge as you wish.

Curzon has paid: 750 mill has just arrived in my wallet, and the issue has been resolved. I am sorry, Curzon, for the trouble this thread has generated over the issue of your character. It was never my intention to let this turn into a multi-page personal attack on you; as far as I knew when I started this thread, you would have responded quickly with your side.
My first post was less neutral than it could have been, because I expected a quick rebuttal. I'm sorry about the communication error that left the rebuttal 12 hours delayed.
You have honored the agreement as laid out, even despite being handicapped by a game bug, and for that I think nothing less of you. I hope this mess of the forums doesn't make you think less of me, either.
Although your wish that I die in a green fire that smells like rotten eggs while listening to Bon Jovi and naked except for a sun bonnet as compromising pictures are taken of me seems to indicate that I shall just have to be even more ruthless to you at the poker tables. --- What doesn't manage to kill you... has made a tactical error.

I guess I might be a little slow. Usually when you set a wager, if you win you get your wager back plus profits. So if you bet $1 at 10-1 odds and you win, you get $11 for the bet.
Siren wagered 500million at 2.5-1 he should get his 500million back plus 1.25 billion. I must have missed something.
I would recommend you amend your rules seeing as rule #5 leaves no room for bugged ships and other situations you seem to feel might constitute a no-contest fight.
>5. Cloaking, warping away, and disengaging (increasing your >distance to more than 200km) from the fight all constitute >surrender.
The only reason I mention this is cause it's going to bug me all night. I enjoy your humour, Dax, and the color your bring to the game and hope you continue to do so as honorably as I've seen you act in the past.

qft. Should have another 500 mil coming, but that's for Siren to pursue if he wants to.

Edited by: Curzon Dax on 24/08/2007 00:48:40 Sorry, don't quite follow.
On a regular fight, if you win you get 500% of whatever your entry fee was for winning. This was 2.5:1. He got 250% of it. IE, 1.25 billion ISK. 1.75 billion would have been 3.5:1, or 350% payout.
Might need to check your math.
*EDIT*
Here's a copy and paste for you.
Bets for High-sec enabled players: 100,000,000 û 1,000,000,000 Win: 500,000,000 û 5,000,000,000 Bets for High-sec disabled players: 500,000,000 û 1,000,000,000 Win: 2,500,000,000 û 5,000,000,000

Take a look at http://www.ultimatecapper.com/payouts.htm for an example.
On a $1 bet at 10-1 odds you get $11.

True, however from the terminology in the post:
The prize is based on a 5:1 bet. Whatever your entry fee is on the fight, I will match by 500%.
It sure sounds like he's using gambling rules. Not saying he can't set the payout however he sees fit, but it should be crystal clear. Personally reading that section I would expect to get my initial bet back as well if I won.

That was what I thought, too. But Curzon's rationale is that the 500 mill was the entry fee, to a competition that pays 1.25 bill total. It's valid, and I'm going to consider this settled and not pursue it further.
Now, about that 1.5 bill isk poker game... you're going to have to wait for my wallet to creep up to 1.5 bill, I'm afraid. --- What doesn't manage to kill you... has made a tactical error.

Hehe. I've been following this all day. Glad to see Dax decided to do the right thing in the end and that all parties are happy.
When I first read he paid out 750 mil, I thought it was not right either. But his use of the term "entry fee" says to me, that this is isk paid to fight Dax and is to be kept by Dax win or loose. If they win they get what ever Dax put up.
Had he not used the "enrty fee" term, I would agree he needs to pay another 500 mil.

This is so pathetic. I really enjoyed all I have read about you Dax, and think you make great fun. But this is so bad. In the beginning of the thread I thought; whatever, its Dax, he'll fix it with a shrug and a handshake. I actually believed in you, man. I did not care a bit about all the flaming. Innocent until proven guilty. But in my eyes, now you are just a to-rich-to-care-for-nobody-but-yourself tard. I wonder if u have any EvE-"friends" you listen to, that will not lick you up the back, and actually tell you that this was rotten. You say you don't care what other people say and think of you; why did you pay then? To stop this thread? To make us lowlife think "he's not that bad really."? To be able to still have some credibility with all the other things you are involved with? Why? You care for no one else in EvE, so why didn't you keep your easy earned isk? Ahh, thats right! You don't need 'em!! You have enough to buy all the carebears in the game their own Domi.... -as long as they don't fit any ECM, and tries bbq'ing you!!!!

So he pays up to calm everyone down. Now if you had only done it hours ago I might think you have some of that integrity you're always talking about. Instead I now see that not only did you bend the rules to your favor, but you also have no resolve in the face of public opinion. What's more, several have already posted about the damage already done.
Now if you really want to help yourself out. Fight and beat our challenger 1v1 no restrictions, and no excuses. I can't say if Freddy will still want to put 1Billion in the pot, since we know we can't trust our money in your hands. No one on the forums will run to our rescue to get you to pay up after all.
