Pretty much everyone agrees that the skill is useless beyond allowing you to fly transport ships.
Would it be possible to have the skill affect some part of the cargo, agility, warp speed, mass, velocity (blockade only), total shield or total armor?

Transport ships get a bonus to tanking with levels of the transport ship skill trained. For example Caldari get a bonus to shield boosting. -- Flame on. |

DST (Deep-Space Transports) like the Mastodon are better off with more HP, because a booster wont help you when you are out of cap. Most people prefer to fit dual LSE II.
BR (Blockade Runners) like the Prowler rarely fit shield boosters, hell, with an invuln II and a small shield booster II (all you can fit on a Prowler with an MWD) you wont tank much (an AF could break the tank) and you are better off using that cap for MWD anyways.
Now, as someone who actually flies these ships (both DSTs and BRs) I must agree some kind of bonus alteration is needed.
x% less mass/weight x% more velocity x% more cargo capacity x% more shield HP x% more warp speed
All would be much more useful.

reasonable /signed in any case transports need some love, otherwise iteron5 and badger2 ftw (right now they're not better, just different)

This is the kind of ship where you don't want to have in a long drawn out battle where boosting is effective.
Simply put, the shield boost bonus is absolutely useless. There are no situations or configurations that would make it better than another setup that doesn't use the bonus. Therfore, few people train transports past level 1 (knowing this).

The armor repair bonus is equally bad. In the low slots you want to mount inertia stabs, nanos and at worst warp stabbers when going in a dangerous area, not an armor repair. Before it can do something useful you are a) already dead or b) out of the danger area.

How about for every level in transport trained, the transport ship has a +1 in warp jamming defense.

I know there is a discussion about this in the ships forum, but it should be here since they are getting partial attention. I just don't think enough people fly them to warrant a lot of forum talk.
However, this isn't about one ship, it goes across the whole class of Transports, 8 ships!
I do think that a +1 warp stab would be too much I win. The blockades could end up with +9 or more! (transport V, 2 stabs, 2 base)
I definitely think that agility and warp speed are good ones. Since blockade runners just got a huge bonus to agility, it would be awesome to see this further amplified with a skill bonus. Alternatively, since they are supposed to be good at MWDing out of bubbles, an increase to base speed would be cool.
The DSTs could get a warp speed bonus since they are pokey. Alternatively, an HP increase would equally sweet.

Edited by: Rawr Cristina on 07/10/2007 01:01:39 Umm the current tanking bonus' can be used to AMAZING effect fyi
The Impel can have a tank that matches the Damnation (up to 1,600 DPS tankable with T2 gear) with appropriate skills and setup, only it can do it for MUCH longer due to more room for Boosters
I know it's not really useful for the actual purpose of the ship, but it makes VERY good bait -----

1600 DPS tankable is great... if you can survive the alpha. Frankly no matter how much you can kit out a transport ship they either have the hit points to survive an attack or they are dead before the rep can help.
Either way there has to be something that can be a better bonus so /signed -----------------------------------------------

4K armour and about 80-90% resists across the board, if theres anything that can alpha that it sure as hell does a lot more than 1,600 DPS
Oh and the reps kick in almost instantly. That setup used 4 Small reps to compensate for the lack of PG (and make room for a Med Injector)
but you're right, it's more of a novelty / bait thing than anything. It would be more useful as a transport with another bonus -----

Glad to see this has approval. I think it's an easy fix too, just change a couple lines in the database and we're good to go.

Good idea. And a bit of T1 balancing wouldn't hurt either. It's just .. not so good game design when everybody and his dog trains Gallente industrial. More equal choices with different pros and cons make a game better.

In another thread (under a different name, my main's out due to credit card issues) the idea was to give
+x% armor/shield per level to Deep Space Transports
and
+1 Warpcore strength to Blockade Runners
Also, boost the crane's grid!

Pretty much noted that this would be way overpowered. I believe I've seen your other thread. I just hope CCP has as well!
