I have an alt that I will give to the person who invents the best backstory for her.
Nikilaiki Ruutarhara is a female Caldari Deteis. She graduated from the SaTI as a scientist and worked for my corporation Technology LaÆZie for a year or two. Apart from that, I know nothing about her. She has only been in combat a couple of times, flying a Buzzard in support of me.
This is a perfect opportunity for a talented new roleplayer to get a head start in Eve, or for an established roleplayer to explore some new avenues with a Caldari character.
In entering this competition, you are agreeing that Nikilaiki will be used for your own enjoyment of Eve, and not sold for profit. I would prefer it if she was used as your roleplaying main, although I will of course not be able to enforce this.
The Character:
Nikilaiki Ruutarhara has 21.5 million Skillpoints. I will put up a link to her In-Eve profile soon.
She has perfect learning and advanced learning skills.
She has Caldari Frigate, Cruiser and Battleship at level V.
She has Research Project Management, Caldari Starship Engineering, and Rocket Science all at level V. With a bit of work on her standings this will allow her maximum Datacore production with Lai Dai corporation.
She has the following support skills all at level V: Electronics, Electronics Upgrades, Signature Analysis, Survey, Energy Emissions Systems, Energy Management, Engineering, Shield Operation, Mechanic, Salvaging, Cybernetics, Spaceship Command.
She has very limited missile and gunnery skills û this is where work is needed, but allows the winner to specialise from scratch.
The Competition:
All entries must be in by 15th September 2007. (My account expires on the 17th).
Entries will consist of a short story telling something of the background and character of Nikilaiki. There is no word limit, but bear in mind that I prefer short, high quality stories over epic sagas.
Entries must follow the rules of The Library forum, and be posted in the competition entry thread that I will link to.
My decision is final. The story I like best will get the character. If no acceptable stories are submitted then I will just allow the account subscription to lapse.
Only one entry is allowed per character. Please try not to edit your posts after posting them.
I will pay the transfer fee.
Please ask any questions in this thread and leave the thread in The Library for entries.
Enjoy writing!

Edited by: Anissa Nasadra on 28/08/2007 14:48:46 The biggest question I have would be what is the ancestry of the character? I have an idea for a a story but some of the details would be quite different if the character were say a tube child as opposed to being of a scientist ancestry.

Edited by: Grawshellar on 29/08/2007 07:09:52 My entry posted, I made a few assumptions to flesh out the story, hopefully these will not detract from the tale. Please forgive the awkward point of view the story is told from, English is not my specialty, nor is writing. Also, perhaps a bit longer then you might have wished, but I felt that what is there is what needed to be said.
The back story leads up to this point in time, where she is leaving your corporation to make it on her own elsewhere.

Well, I'm not going to know, am I? If you had multiple accounts you could post an unlimited number of stories, but I don't think it would increase your chance of winning.
If I were you I'd post your best one.
Thank you to those who have entered so far!

Alright, my entry is in... tried to give the story a "Chronicle" feel but not sure if I succeeded. Had to cut a lot out as the original would have been around 4 posts but hopefully I did a good job. A bit rushed but I was unsure if I would have the time over the next week or two to perfect it.

A couple questions...
1.) Is it alright to put a link to the story in my post? If so I've got a REALLY good story started but I don't want to clog up the thread with 4-6 posts worth of story. I know you like short and well written, but I think I've got an excellent story developing. I'm trying to cut it without losing the feel but it might not cut too easily.
2.) What were the circumstances surrounding Niki's combat history? I know she was flying support but did you have any IC storyline going?
3.) Is there any meaning behind her name? I really like it and I was just wondering if there was a personal reason behind the choice or if it was just a "Hey, this sounds cool!"
To those who've entered already, really enjoying the entries so far. I like Slandark and Father Dibbles stories in particular.

Thanks - I was going for a story that was more like game oriented/ role play/ her actions, so aggressive that you wonder about her more. makes for a fun introduction to her for sure.
Maybe, whoever wins we stick with that story and follow up as time goes on. Could make for some fun reading.

1/ I'd rather have it posted in the thread. It means there is a level playing field and will also preserve the story and make it easy for others to access. 4-6 posts shouldn't be a problem - there are some great longer stories in The Library. Don't worry too much about the length - I read quickly . I just don't want to read pages of drivel.
2/ Niki's combat history just involved a few ops against pirates - scouting and occasionally cloaking and dampening. Some ops were successful, some weren't. She never lost a ship.
3/ There is no concious reasoning behind the name, other than sounding 'Caldari'.
Thank you again to everyone who has entered. I can confirm that the quality of writing is high enough already, therefore the character will be won.

Jaro whistled a hymn as he kneaded the dough. He enjoyed his work. It wasn't really a job for him as much as a passion. He had graduated from Hedion University only a couple years earlier but he chose not to pursue the field he was educated in. Instead he had asked his grandfather for some of the old family recipes and set up a small restaurant catering to capsuleers and dock workers. The restaurant ate up a very small portion of his monthly stipend so he really wasn't worried about whether or not he made a profit.
Serena, Jaro's hostess, tapped on the counter. "Jaro, we need two more specials. Lord Harvan's thugs just came in." The woman's voice was high and irritating, but Jaro did not have the ISK to pay for a more attractive hostess. The wind worn face of the old hag belied the beauty she possessed in her youth. Rumors Jaro had heard stated that she once turned the head of a prominent Amarr noble. Serena once showed him a holoimage taken when she was much younger, proving that the rumors may have been at least partially correct.
Regardless, Jaro had hired her. He looked up and smiled. "Of course. Make sure they have plenty of drink and inform station security there may be more problems again tonight. Kasora's men wandered in earlier and mentioned something about a celebration tonight."
"Bless their hearts." Serena sneered and leaned against the counter. "Didn't they learn after the last time?"
Jaro snickered and shook his head. "What do you expect? Harvan and Kasaro have been competing on security contracts for the last 6 months and their goons each found this place the day we opened." Jaro placed the sliced cheese onto the flattened dough. "This is the only place they know the other side will be. They are our top customers and their bosses always pay for the damages so I don't see a problem."
Crossing her arms, Serena sighed. "I don't like it Jaro. It's keeping decent patrons away." She turned around and leaned on the countertop. She stared at Jaro as he cooked. "I really need the tips."
It was a common argument but Jaro didn't have the time. "If you really need the extra money you should take old Alsan's offer. He pays less but the tips are more." Jaro sprinkled seasonings over the top of his creations. He smiled and looked up to see Serena staring back at the door. "What's wrong?"
The hostess turned and Jaro saw fear on her face. Serena whispered to Jaro, "A Caldari just walked in."
Jaro placed the two orders he had finished in the oven and walked to the counter. Looking to the door he indeed saw a woman with light brown hair and a Caldari tatoo on her face. She was small and dressed in a blue work uniform. Jaro tapped Serena's shoulder and motioned for her to tend to Lord Harvan's men. "I'll handle this. Go make sure the Slaver Hounds don't try to find a reason to wreck the place before Kasaro's men arrive."
Serena nodded and quickly went about distracting the patrons.
The young Caldari woman approached the counter. "Jaro Rel?" she asked hesitantly. Her eyes were red and she seemed jittery. Her hands shook slightly as she pulled out a small data chip. ôMy father sent me to see you. You knew him as Ash I believe.ö
Jaro looked over at Serena. ôYeah, old Ash... I remember him. Best cybernetics specialist I've ever met. What is he up to these days?"
The young woman lowered her eyes. "Dust. He was murdered and I want you to find out who did it."
Picking up the data chip, Jaro motioned to a table. "Go sit down, I'll be there in a minute." The woman smiled hesitantly at Jaro and walked over to the table to have a seat. She didn't have to wait long before Jaro came over with a glass of wine and a salad for her. "I hope you don't mind, you look like you could use a good meal." He offered the young woman the plate which she took eagerly. He smiled a fatherly smile and sat down across from her.

Part Two of my story is up (or at least the first post). Wasn't intending on doing anything more with the story but I had a really vivid dream last night and I had to get it out in writing. Besides, if I don't win I at least want to finish where I was going with this prologue. :)
Hope everyone enjoys, and good luck to everyone! Loving the stories!

Edited by: Ashar KorAzor on 16/09/2007 01:19:37 There's about half of what's polished and set to go posted in the appropriate thread. Apologies if lag posts it all as a bit past the deadline, or whatnot. I'm hoping that the fact that the end of the fifteenth hasn't hit for US users, or people like me who just got off work, will be taken into consideration, but if it's not, that's understandable.
Thanks for sponsoring the contest, Captain La'Zie. CAIN are a fun bunch because of chaps such as yourself. Oh - and if you want to see the rest of these, let me know.
