I always hear in many threads on these forums about how the economy is ruined. Now thats one thing. But the thing that suprises me is just how many people think that. I mean all the ingredients of a good economy seem to be here if ya ask me. Ive put items up for sale and they tend to sell and make me money, even if it takes some patience. How about some optimism people? -------

Edited by: Archemedes on 09/02/2004 08:23:46 Most people who talk about the economy being ruined were here back when you could make a decent profit on ordinary tech 1 items. That was before all the price wars and huge numbers of unlimited BP copies drove prices on most gear to near mineral value. Sure you can still make money selling, but if you build items from purchased minerals your profits will be minimal. If you mine the ore yourself you do a little better, but you'll still need a LOT of sales to get back the cost of an original BP.
Fortunately, Tech 2 items are totally different. There will never be any unlimited Tech 2 BP copies and the originals will have limited numbers, so in a couple months (after the initial rush settles down and prices stabilize) the economy should be a LOT better. I seriously doubt we'll see many Economics 101 drop-outs pricing tech 2 items at mineral cost and killing the profit margins!

I think a growing trend is more players have more money now and are willing to buy items without shopping around. That and some regions just dont have certain objects that people need and want to get in a hurry. There's plenty of opportunity to make a killing, but yeah you cant have all of EVE knocking on your door willing to pay exorbitant prices for your product. That kind of opportunity is only for a limited time and has to be used or lost. -------

Most people who talk about the economy being ruined don't accept a decent profit as BEING a decent profit. They seem to think they have a divine right to a 20%-plus profit margin on items. Dunno where they get that idea from.
The market is working perfectly. Demand > supply, price go up. Supply > demand, price go down. Price go up too much, people stop buying since too expensive, demand drops below supply, price go down again. Price go down too much, people stop making since no point, supply drops below demand, price go up again.
It's really very simple - and it's also flatly impossible to "not work." It might not be working in the best interests of the sellers - but then, why would it? They're not the only guys here.

Jep, the economy is not ruined...it was wrong the way it started. It's just not the normal thing that you can make 100%+ profit out of manufacturing things.

Yes, they think it is sooo bad, that now they cannot make afk long secure routes, and have big profit at the same time. CCP why you made it so hard to make millions without risk?

The market is presently much better then it used to be.
A large number of items sell, and generally pretty well over time.
Competition always drives prices lower, and when people are unwilling to sell at those prices, they stop selling and prices again rise to take advantage. People then sell again, rinse repeat...
At present the market is not bad. I don't think many tech 2 items will be the next Miner 2 abusive source of cash, but some do stand in the position to be like that. Only time will tell
