since i'm part of an Alliance that's participating, i'm happy with the new rules on not using faction modules, as i think it makes the poorer alliances more competetive.
however that being said, would you like to see more of the blingy rare ships in the tournament? i think it looks cool myself. where else are most eve players likely to ever see a state issue raven or a silver magnate eh? :)

I'm very much in two minds about this.
On the one hand, I think it's great that the new rules allow Alliances without 10's of billions to burn (i.e. most of them) can compete on a fairly level playing field with the big boys. While it may or may not have actually happened, theres certainly a possibility that previous tourney teams have simply been able to "buy their way to success" by fielding simply so much bling that its impossible to counter.
But on the other, watching the Impoc die has to be one of the absolute highlights of EVE ever, and watching all those incredibly valuable faction BS's going toe to toe (and exploding) certainly was exciting. ------

As a viewer, I would surely like to see more expensive stuff, because watching Caracals going pop just isn't the same.
As a team member, obviously having to use Faction Battleships would be a pain in the rear end for us, but I still feel we need more expensive explosions......because no moment in this tourney will match the impoc death from the last one.

Jay sure likes his bling I like the rules of this tourny... besides the implants part, all teams are on almost equal level. Only thing that actualy puzzled me is why with those rules inplace, they allowed the use of faction ammo.

They should split the tourney into groups. Just like car races are split into classes.
Have a ladder that is anything goes.
Another that is no faction.
Another that is no T2 or better (ships or mods).
Or something along those lines. Draw the lines where you will but distinct classes would be fun I think.

I think everyone is missing the point...
lets say rigs and expensive faction stuff was allowed into the tournament, why would people risk them when the reward is lp? LP, not faction gear, or ships, just lp.
there is not point, risk vs. reward people. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP need...more room... |

Some wealthy people would do it just for the notoriety. Just to be able to say they were "Champions". Some would spend billions to your millions just for that.

I guess thats a good point, but large alliances have been posting that they will not risk their one of a kind ships because of the rewards for winning the tournament. Unrestricted use of modules would really mean that no ship would ever die in the tournament.
Originally by: Jay Deah blingy rare ships
Faction ships are just useless. They're still bound by the same fitting reqs and cap as the basic ships, meaning the extra points they get is a joke. That said, the unique ships is another matter, but absolutely not worth the isk risk (with the new rules, it's harder to be certain of a flawless victory vs lesser teams). There are not a lot of truly "one of a kind" ships left.
And no...I wouldn't risk an Imperial Apocalypse (Impoc) for anything less than a titan as a prize (as an example).
It's an e-peen thing. An Impoc (for example) in a tournament would get the other team likely doing nothing but trying to drop that ship. The opposing team *might* win the tournament and gain some short lived notoriety but dropping the Impoc would be remembered far longer.
I remember the lengths MOO went to trying to get the Gold Magnate (they got it eventually). Honestly one of a kind ships are more curse than blessing. They have huge "SHOOT ME" signs taped to their sides. As such they are more collectors items than anything else. Not something you actually use because frankly nothing merits losing one.
That said people will drop billions on faction ships and faction mods to be sure of kicking your ass in a tournament setting.

Still, it would've been nice to see some of the ships won in last tournament to be used
I agree that 37 pts for a faction ship is a way too high, they are not that much better.

I agree that watching Caracals is not as compelling as watching faction battleships.
Oh well, at least Caracals explode swiftly and violently!

What would be nice is after the final, have the EveTV team/GM's choose, or a vote, for the most entertaining two teams of the whole tournament, and give them access to anything they want within the points systems rules - faction ships, officer mods, everything, just for one match and they all get blown up at the end whoever wins. Sheer faction carnage :D ---------------

No, not really. From a neutral spectator point of view ... you might get a 3 second close up of the ship and all you see on the outside is a minor color variance, also when they blow it isn't some giant super-nova but the same kind of grapical effect little 'pop'. All it does is make the fights billions of isk more expensive, but not anymore exciting to watch.
I am a big fan of the new rules in this tournament, so many more viable tactical options and it isn't about who has the biggest badass ship but about wich group has the better teamwork and strategy. There is a lot more action taking place all over the screen and a lot more fun to watch all of the many matches.
Also for the majority of the Eve community this tournament is 'closer to home' seeing the actual ships they can relate to into action and think "hey, i want to do that as well" Aside from some tackling missing (dictors and intys) this tournament is on big PR and tribute to all of the PvP going on in EvE every day.
"Oh i don't PvP. I just shoot people who prevent me from carebearing" |
