Why are they only in local now?
I am a safe space mission runner, I do not want to have to watch local, I like carrying on conversations while I do my missions, do not make me watch local or worse separate it and use up valuable screen real estate in order to get my updates!
Put it back in every channel, or at least active channel that I'm watching!

While I agree that placing mission messages in the active channel would have been a superior solution, the local channel, with member list turned off and the window made as small as possible, doesn't take up THAT much screen space.
(Of course, I wouldn't recommend turning off the member list if you're mission running in losec.)

I'm sorry. cycling through 15 windows to kill all the silly blinks just sucks. If you find local irrelevant, I strongly recommend that you do some lowsec or 0.0 missioning.
It's not like you need to see anything other than the overview for hisec missioning anyway.

Active window would be somewhat more convenient for some, but having "Local" open and pinned separate from any other windows even if you're in highsec and have no wardecs is always a good idea.

Some of the missions seem to have the messages turned off entirely. I ran a Blockade vs DED and didn't get anything in local. |

I agree. Tbh this is another CCP 'fix' that I don't understand. Spamming every channel was silly but now they send messages to a channel that you aren't looking at? It just doesn't make sense. If the game wants to tell me something it should send it to the channel I am looking at it.
Local is something that most people keep in the background. When it flashes it is usually something of relative importance. Now I have to put up with it flashing just because of a mission message. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

I guess you don't have any corp mates or other friends then? I keep my informal alliance window open most of the time with my corp chat window being a close second. Local is useful (so I can't just minimise it) but it should only flash when another player in local actually transmits something.
It amazes me that people like you think it reasonable for the game to send you (and you only) a message then put it in a window that the game itself knows you can't see. How the hell is that in anyway sensible?
It's like your girlfriend/wife sending you a birthday card and deliberately sending it to the wrong address, ffs!
Edit:Oh I and keep all my chat windows (3 I picked, up to 2 for fleets) stacked. There's only one visible at once and I rely on the flashing tab of the others to tell me when something has appeared. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Edited by: Leandro Salazar on 04/09/2007 08:33:09 There are actually people who READ those silly messages?
I guess now I know what it feels like for all the haughty alliance guys to discover that there are people who listen to the sound in EVE
I have sound on and couldn't imagine playing without it, but I am glad the messages go to local where I can totally ignore them instead of disrupting ongoing conversations in the active channel.
I guess the optimal solution would be (as with so many things) an option where you can select what happens with those messages (local/active/off)

I don't want mission message spam back. Local is good place for them. It's good idea to keep one eye on it anyway.

hey hey
Totally glad the spam is gone and as to it being in local i guess it needed to be in at least 1 channel and local got the choice.
It needs to be in a channel that cannot be closed and if the choice was between local and Corp Id choose local everytime.
if it anoys you that much just right click and turn "blink off"

I'm so glad they changed that the way it is now. everyone has local active, so it was the most uncomplicated way to do it.
I'm glad that one person crying won't change it.

Let's compromise and remove level 4s from high sec, then you'll have local open and there won't be an issue.

Having local small and transparent doesn't take up much screen real estate, unless you're running in 1024x768 or something? --- Proud Amarr pilot.

Let’s imagine that this was ‘real life’. You would have a communications officer who would be dealing with all comms. He would be feeding you reports and communiquT’s. He would only be using a single channel to do this, not multiple channels. The chat box system we use in Eve is the only physical way we can communicate at present, although Eve Talk may well take over some day. Should Eve Talk become the standard, then you should get voice alerts only on the active channel your ‘tuned’ into, not other channels as your not going to be listening to them. Therefore, it is entirely ‘realistic’ for messages to appear in the most logical channel where the action is happening, which should always be the local channel. Try and look at this in a ‘science fiction’ story/film/TV series kind of way, and not in a game play way.

It's fine.
Learn to adapt.
It's infinitely better than it was before.
Having to click one channel every now and then is a lot better than having to click 12 every 3 seconds in some missions.

Yeah..umm...not only are most of those messages completely pointless (do you really need a message to tell you that a bunch of battleships just warped on top of you), but local is something that you should have open anyway. Regardless of where you run missions, it is always good to see who's around local with you.
