Something like a half of the human brain's visual processing capability is devoted to recognising human faces.
That's why we tend to see faces where there are none.

No, they are "self-proclaimed" experts.

people see what they want to see. scientifically proven. Thats why all medical test have to be double blinded.
if you stick with this observation based on evidence, can you make any money? sure you can, confidence tricksters have made easy cash buy selling people things that they believe to be worthwhile but arn't.
there is a lovely market of believers out there that you can clean up on. it doesn't matter if there is reliable evidence proving that the product is a scam, people will still buy it.
so you say you believe the shysters that don't have to put in funding applications to governments or deal with peer review criticism, good for you, buy their book, go to their seminar it all helps the economy.
if however you want to apply critical thought. why not put the effort in and get a job with NASA? they are always recruiting. get involved, there is nothing stopping you as through determination and demonstrated critical thought you could be there, receiving the information from the satalite. I have been at the receiver watching the data stream from voyager. you could be there as well.
scientific method is available to you, you just have use it.

Last time I had a open mind people freaked out until they installed a metal plate in my head.
On a serious note, I do believe we have a scheduled crew going to Mars in either 2012 or 2020 I'm not sure which. I think they flight time is scheduled for 8 months just to get there.
As for finding out whats what I'm pretty sure we already posted the links on the mountain. Ya outta click on them before spouting ignorance.

We will be lucky if we set foot on Mars by 2030...
The shuttle is to be decommissioned in 2010. The USA will not have manned space flight missions from 2010-2015. That's right. The USA will be incapable of sending astronauts to the space station we will have just finished building for 5 years... How's that for our great space program? Pretty ignorant planning if you ask me...
China & Russia will probably jointly plan a mission to Mars and get there before we do...

Explain to me why that picture represents the truth and the others are lies. Actually don't bother, because it's impossible to say.

They're not using the atlantis for this flight. Lockheed is building a new shuttle that's better designed for sustained flight time in space. They're trying to find a better way to put in artifical gravity so our guys won't be all atrophied by the time they get to the little red planet.

I don't know what to think about some of those other images. The tubes you can see have very similar traits to lava tubes on earth, the bars/ribs look to be further apart though. As for them being reflective - I don't know: would molten lava moving through sand create glassy tubes perhaps?
I have never heard of vegetation on Mars. The triangular monoliths are intriguing, as is the five sided pyramid. It's hard to imagine a five sided object like that being natural. Same goes for the triangular monoliths, all of them, if not the same size then very similar dimensions(looking from above).
I've said it before - we need better quality images.
Looking at this thread and the other one, a lot of people ask 'Why would NASA lie'?
It's a big question and no-one here has a definite answer. The linked video mentions a Brookings report from 1961. I have never seen it so cannot really comment on it.

Jim:
You would do well to read up on Occam's Razor. Simply put it is the notion that the simplest answers tend to be the right ones.
If you hear the clip-clop of hooves outside your window I am guessing your first thought is it is from a horse and not a zebra (assuming you do not live in Africa). Why? Because it is the simplest and most likely answer. It could be a zebra escaped from a local zoo but chances are it is just a horse. If you did not look to be certain and then told your mates in a pub that a zebra walked by your place they'd tell you that you were nuts.
And rightly so. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. Sure it would be cool as hell to find evidence of a civilization on Mars and it is fun to speculate about. But in all the cases so far there are far more mundane and reasonable answers to these claims.
You could look at a million potatoes and perhaps find one that looked like Elvis. That does not make it meaningful. Taking pictures of a few things that due to light and angles and such give the appearance of a face does not make it meaningful. Going down and finding a carved sculpture would.
So, when respected scientists offer up simple, albeit boring, explanations to the seemingly incredible it may not be fun but is almost certainly the correct answer. At the very least this is where your head should sit on the subject. A healthy dose of skepticism to fantastic claims is a good idea. If the fantastic claim turns out to be true great! Most likely though it just that, a fantastical claim with no basis in reality.

as i last heard for the mission to mars it was somewhere between 1012 - 1020 and they are working on a system where the ship has a wheel that turns and thus creates gravity kinda like B5 and the earth ships there, but as for the faces and whatnots,i feel that a government will lie if they want to and untill i see proof of it myself i wont believe anyone, although i have learned not to trust humans as they lie most of the time just because anyway ....

Humans have a hard-wired pattern recognition ability with a well-documented bias towards human faces. This is evident from before we can speak. It also means sometimes we see things which are not there, such as celebrity faces cropping up in fast food. In rock formations, yeah why not?

Not sure about vegitation but there is at least a little evidence to show that there may some form of life on mars even if it is only bacteria growing there.
Quote: Methane and water vapour are concentrated in the same regions of the Martian atmosphere, say scientists studying data from Europe's Mars Express orbiter. They say the link may point to a common source - possibly life - but others remain sceptical about the detection.
Ultraviolet sunlight takes about 300 years to destroy atmospheric methane. These detections suggest the gas is being replenished on Mars in the same way it is on Earth - by processes such as geothermal heating or by life forms, such as bacteria.

Actually it is that simple and you would do well to read up on Occam's Razor.
The Comet Neat supposed cover-up has been debunked.
Will our governments lie to us? Of course. That does not mean it is justifiable to latch on to every conspiracy theory that floats by.
Again a healthy dose of skepticism for extraordinary claims is in order. Keeping an open mind and looking at all viewpoints is critical. If after weighing all the evidence make-up your mind as you please but not ahead of time and remember if you want me to believe in Pink Unicorns controlling the world you had better have some remarkable proof.

Because the only picture that really looks like a face in Cydonia is extremely old and low resolution, with most of what is visible being shadow or telemetry errors. The pictures that show it as looking like a rather boring mountain are from 3 different probes (from 2 separate and competing Space Agencies), are many times the resolution, and show flawless telemetry with little shadowing.
I'm liable to believe the high resolution pictures from multiple sources are more likely to be true than the single fuzzy 30 year old snapshot. ------
