So im realizing ive still got a bit of training before using it.
Adv mass 4, Ore reprocess at 4, Plus capital skills..
ugh Close but getting there slowly.. My question is.. Is anyone using this item yet? Anyone have recommended fittings? aside from Compressing ore.. what else is it good for? I mean.. Anyone have jump range ability on it yet so much so that it might be a Glorified carrier for supplies? -Sweet sig- We are Recruiting |

Available from ORE npc stations in 0.0 (3bill). or from Jita 4-4 resellers for 3.3bill (atm).

No, no one has completed one yet. Not that it matters, like 5 people have any uses for it, and even that's questionable. I expect the rorqual will end up as the absolutely least used capital ship of all time, even after titans.

You're kidding, right? Most of the people I know in Carriers have been working towards a Rohrqual since the pre-reqs were announced. It's gonna be heavily used by most of the 0.0 I'd bet.

Wait what? Is this some double troll or something? Absolutely everyone on the GS forums have agreed that rorquals are absolutely pointless, at least for 0.0. Possibly some use in empire depending on how veld compression works out.
If you want to mine some system off the beaten path you'd just get a corp hangar array, dumb ore into it, then freighter it out when you've mined a few 100k m3. It's cheaper, more time efficient and doesn't involve putting a 2bn isk badly tanked capital ship in a belt.

but i suppose we will have to see how it plays out when a few of them start getting used -Sweet sig- We are Recruiting |

They will be used for hauling ofc. Same as carriers just better for the job. And unlike carrier you can get it's cargo hold big enough to jump packed battleships around (takes 50 000 m3 cargo, not ship hangar). As far as mining and stuff goes then it's relatively pointless, as freighters can already pick stuff up in POS and no one with half braincell is mining in hostile territory.

They have a shorter jump range, but a slightly bigger cargo capacity with iteron mark 5s in the cargo bay. It's a similar fuel cost:cargo hauled ratio, but you have to put more work in for the jumps, unless you have JDC5.

Only if you fit cargo expanders. Fitting cargo expanders to a capital just makes for comedy killmails, not good logistics. You're better off moving a single JPG and a battleship BPC, then building it at your destination.

No matter what you fit you do nice killmail in that ship if you manage to get it into combat situation. It's industrial ship. It's good plan to use it to jump from station to pos and back to station dok range from pos.
Besides that. Minerals for BS are bigger than assembled BS so if you have cargo capacity then you are better off when moving the BS itself. Unless you use mineral compression ofc but that's only viable if you have station near by to recykle. As I understand it most carriers are used to haul fuel for POS'es and this one is better for that.
Carriers can do it just as fine as they were doing it ofc still but only other options before that ship to move battleships were motherships for assembled ships or revelations (and moros if you fit cargo expander rigs) dreadnaughts in assembled form.

Uhm, did anybody actually read the bonusses of the ship? This ship will be VERY popular among Allainces. A well skilled pilot with a proper setup gang can boost the mining output per minute greatly. He can pull the containers from 200 km to the ship with great speed eliminating the need for haulers. He can tank the spawn as well. He can operate in discovered hidden fields. He can operate far away from stations disclosing juicy systems hardly used now. To top it of you can lift more stuff then any other carrier. It's a winner!

The ship will be widely used, believe you me. It is the 0.0 miner's dream. You say it's easy to freighter a load of ore out to high sec? And have you ever moved a freighter through 0.0 before? no. -----------

And what about POS fuel and everything else that can't be compressed? What about the upcoming compression nerf?
The two things everyone wanted in an ORE capital was 1)uber mining ship and 2)freighter with a jump drive. They may have failed miserably on the first count, but the Rorqual is fantastic at the second.

More carriers. Wasting 5 carrier pilots' time is still more efficient than wasting 50 peoples' time escorting one freighter.
Quote: What about the upcoming compression nerf?
The one that was supposed to be here last week? I'd lay money on it not happening. And even after that, it's STILL more efficient to compress to JPGs and jump than to compress to compressed ore and jump.
Quote: but the Rorqual is fantastic at the second.
It barely scratches 100k m3 and can only jump 10ly (after training 75 days of skills), it's not that good.

Edited by: Clansworth on 09/09/2007 05:29:51 Actually, what I wanted from the ORE Capital was:
1.) Mining Command Bonuses <-- CHECK! 2.) Mineral/Ore Compression <-- CHECK! 3.) Eased Mining Op Logistics <-- CHECK! 4.) A reason to mine Low-ends in 0.0 <-- We'll have to wait and see on this one. Probably won't happen until the mineral compression nerf coming in Rev 3
What I didn't want (and why) from the ORE Capital was:
1.) Uber Mining Ship (The Hulk is already an amazing ship, and I feel getting more out of a belt should require teamwork, not just a more uber ship)
As far as the mention of just mining to a corp hanger, then moving it out with a freighter, realize that if you are using the Rorqual, you can compress the ore, then stick the compressed ore in the hanger. Then, if you feel the need to slow-boat it, vice using the jump drive, you can haul a freighter's worth of ore in a couple transports, and have a much lower risk/reward.
Where I see the real advantage of the Rorqual is the ability to do away with haulers, putting those people in barges instead. Then you'll have more mining going on, with fewer people, and have a nice leadership bonus to boot.
Less time mining, means more time pew-pew... and more uber pew-pew shippies...

Not gonna happen, ever. Fitting capitals with cargo optimisation rigs is just laughable, and using expanded cargos on any capital will just ensure you lose it quickly, not to mention slowing your jumps.
So, your real total: 96,214.
Barely scratching 100k.
(though, you can add your corp hangar onto that for 106k, but that'll likely be filled with spare fuel and other supplies)

I did not mean freighter trip to hi sec. I meant freighter trip to near by refining station. Mining is activity that by nature needs moderate security, thus you are usually able to get that freighter thru some 5 to 8 jumps to nearest station with just approx 3 e-war specced escorts and 2 scouts. After you refine your high end ore then it's no longer real problem to move it around.
Perhaps some people will use that ore compression, but I do not think it will be common. It burns strontsium and thus lowers your profit margins (unless local refining tax is too high ofc and you would make more profit by compressiong and refining in empire @100%).
It is real good ship for hauling. It gets 63000 m3 cargo bay plus 800 000 m3 ship hangar plus reasonable jump range vs. 77000 m3 cargo in revelations (lower jump range) or approx up to 30 000 m3 cargo and 500 000 m3 ship maintenance (longer jump range) with carrier. That is using cargo expander t1 rigs.
That cargo number up there is with Hi: whatever (smartbombs?) Med: Heavy Cap injector II (x800) Low: 3x Cargo Expander II Rigs: 3x Cargohold optimization I
Yep. No tank whatever. When used properly you most likely would not need tank. And if you will need to tank in that ship then you are in real trouble anyway. Altho I think it was no longer possible to generate cynos inside pos forcefield but I also think that if you manage to get jumped outside your own pos then you have communication problem with your cyno pilot.

Why is it so laughable to use cargo expanders/rigs on this capital? I don't see why not. This ship is not a combat ship, and if it does get into combat, odds are you already screwed up and it's going down regardless what is fit.

Situation 1: Expanded Rorqual full to the brim, with nearly no tank.
Corp chat: "Hey guys. My rorqual carrying 32bil of corp assets got blown up. Sorry i couldn't call for help. I died too quick."
Situation 2: Rorqual, tanked to the hilt.
corp chat: "Hey guys, i'm under attack, but i think i can tank them for a couple of minutes, can you help?" "Yeah, you're on our cyno chain, give us a minute and we'll drop a dozen carriers on on them and bail you out."
Logistics capitals regularly carry tens of billions of isk. No matter how safe you think your cyno route is, it isn't. Travelling with anything less than the biggest *****-ass tank you can fit is just silly.

The Rorq is a shield tanker, it doesn't have to trade (much) of a tank for an all-expander setup. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic EVE Automated Influence Map: Keeping Down The Clone Business Since 2007AD |

Go into EFT. Fit a standard shield tank with cargo expanders + rigs. You can run that tank for approximately 5 minutes. Putting on 3 PDU 2s and 3 CCC 1s, and you've nearly doubled the amount of time you can run your tank for and even longer if you're willing to sacrifice tanked DPS with CPRs.

Undock from low-sec station with cyno already up, jump immediately to POS. Jump from POS to POS until final cyno is next to outpost, dock immediately. Do the same thing back out. If a hauler-Rorqual is ever in a combat situation, you seriously screwed up. You seem to be immediately dismissing ideas as stupid without even considering how such a ship is actually used.

Its not like the other cap ship though, It shouldnt ever be in a combat situation and it can, with all cargo rigs/mods carry much more than the others also. Therefor i know you are wrong and a very large amount of these WILL be fitting cargo expanders and optimizations rigs.
