i have been in eve for almost 2 years but never really done missions for real.
i am about to make a try now and want to get a good start.
as i am amarr and have good skills in it (bs 5, good drones skills and gunnery) i will use a amarr bs. so please dont tell me to get a raven or something.
but i dont know witch ship to take rly... geddon - weak tank, gank ship apoc - good cap, moderate tank and low damage. abaddon - low cap, good tank easy fit.
atm i am looking to take a apoc. and this is the setup i had in mind.
8x dual heavy beam laser II - 100mn afterburner II x5 webifier 2x cap recharger II - large armor repairer II damage controle II 3x active hardeners 2x capacitor power relay II - 2x auxilary rigs 1x nanobot rig
what do you think? i belive it is a good tank with resist at 66,75,71,69 when using expl, kin, therm hardener. the rigs should give a good boost to the repper i belive? and the cap is good and i can run everything forever without the afterburner active. with ab active it runs for 4mins.
should i go for another ship or should i go for the apoc with a diffrent setup. maybe dual reps insteed? other guns, bigger? what do you think?
many thanks for any help you can give.

Edited by: Hotice on 08/09/2007 22:47:23 Looks pretty good, that is what I've used when I first started to do lvl 4s in apoc. Before I moved to HAC/Command ships, my final apoc setup is like this:
5 T2 tachyon beams 3 T2 heavy beams
1 named 100mn AB 1 domination WEB 2 T2 cap rechargers
1 Centus X Type large repairer 3 active t2 hardeners 1 best named DCU 1 T2 Heat sinks (or 1 more active hardeners when fightin angels) 1 DB CPR
1 nano pump rig 2 ccc rigs
t2 medium drones
This setup can pop cruisers in 2-3 volley, instant pop ceptors at 52-82km range. Anything come close, web then kill it with heavy beams while focus tachyons on large ships. You don't really need to tank much since most of the npc ships usually dies at 40km+ range very quickly.

I used to run level 4 missions with an Abaddon solo. This is purely from memory so it may be slightly off.
High: 8x mega pulse II - With Sharpshooter 5 and Scorch you won't have trouble with NPCs being out of range though you will be shooting in your falloff on occasion.
Med: 1x domi web 3x cap recharger II
Lows (I think): 1x large best faction repper - can't think of the name at the moment. 4x hardener - I had 64% hardeners too. 1x heat sink II 1x cpr II
Rigs: 3 cap recharge rigs
If you have a secondary account you could create a more ganky setup and have the secondary account in a tech1 or tech2 logistics ship sending you energy, armour and maybe even some tracking as well.
Also, please don't use a mix of large/medium guns (drones ftw?) it makes me kind of sick inside |

thanks for your answers
you guys seems to fit alot heavier guns than my dual heavyies. and then the question is, should i use beams or should i use pule. pule is short range and i might need to run around to get in range... beams is less damage but i can sit in one spot mostly and do the killing... what do you think?
dual tank? needed? is a singel repper (t2) enough with the rigs to boost?
and then again the neverending question... abaddon or apoc...

seems most ppl use the abaddon for mission. good defence i guess... but will a tank hold vs the cap? 88% resist on both mission specefic damage types and one large rep? enough?
isent 3x aux rigs better than 3 cap rigs?
so for abaddon it would be 7x mega beams 1x drone link 4x cap rechargers 1x LAR 2x cpr 4x hardeners 2x aux rigs 1x cap rig guns and lar runs forever...
but will the tank be enough with 88% resist and 1 lar? dsp with multi ammo is 346 with range 30+19 xray ammo gives 45+19 and 289dps. standard ammo gives 60+19 and 231dps.

I used to run a similar setup if you ditch the aux nano pumps and put 3 ccc's in you should be able to run it on either 4 cap recharger II's or 3 cap recharger II's and 1 CPR II That in turn will open up slots for tracking computers and heat sinks. Offcourse you are free to do it anyway you like but from my personal experience the tank holds fine in lvl 4's if you know what you are doing and it does a ****load more dmg with the heat sinks and tracking comps which in turn lets you finish faster. + i used to run it with bs 3 and you do it with bs 5 so your resists should be better then mine where back then.

Abaddon setup I used:
High: 4 Tachs with Gamma Crystals 4 Mega Pulse with Microwave Crystals
Med: Tracking Computer 3x Cap Rechargers
Low: 1 LAR 2x EANM 2 Hardeners 1 DCU 1 Cap Power Relay
3x CCC rigs
Cap holds forever, so you can burn all the modules. Take care changing the crystals though. If you're low on cap skills, then you can use standard crystals on Tachs. --- Member of the Danish Evefan.DK corp |

Without the gunnery skils and BS 5 you have Abaddon
7 Amar Navy Mega Beam Lasers 1 Assault launcher (helps with frigs since my drones are still T1)
2 Cap Recharger II's 1 Tracking Comp 1 Sensor Booster
1 Amarr Navy Large Armor Rep 2 EAN II 2 Amarr Navy Heat Sinks 2 CPR II's
3 CCC Rigs
Cap hold steady when using gamma lasers, Mutifreq will still drain it pat 30%... very slowly, but I havent maxed cap skills yet. This puts out good DPS, and has a decent tank, if you wanted to you could easily swap out EAN for specific hardeners. Personally, I think 4 hardeners is way too much tank for this ship, especially with your skill set.

First off, Running missions is more about knowing the missions than the mission ship itself so use a good site, I find this one useful Kill Missions.
Secondly, since you plan on using amarr ships pick a corp/location that has alot of blood, sansha, drone missions. Preferrably mostly Sansha. I run for Theology Counsel, but I hear Amarr Navy has the best % of Sansha missions.
I'd use an Abaddon if I were you, with a good setup and the right Mobs, it's probably the fastest mission runner. If you use T2 guns, most optimal mission runners use MP IIs with faction ammo and scorch for distance, I believe. Now there's 2 schools of thought here, there's the optimal setup, and the lazy setup. What I'm gonna say is mostly consensus I've gleaned amongst experienced Abaddon pilots. I notice alot of optimal setups run Injectors to not waste excess mids cap rechargers. But this means that you need to stock 800 boosters on you (annoying), supposedly you shread missions so fast you don't even need to use them all most of the time. But the Justification is that using your slots to maximum efficiency (for things like tracking mods)
Then there's the lazy ammoless, boosterless setups which run dual heavies. This setup seems to be slower, but it conserves your cap far better. You do missions at a good enough pace.
So the choice between optimal and lazy is up to you. Lazy isn't really that slow, I use a lazy approach since I can't even use t2 guns yet. I still feel I run the missions quickly.

I've run tons of lvl 4's in the apoc, Navy Poc now :)
I used to have the following setup (iirc).
High:6x Mega Beams, 1 tractor, 1 salvage. Med: Web, 3x caprechargers Low:Lar,Mar, Hardners (mission specific, so 3-4) and more cap. Sometimes 2x Lar.
Drones:5x light and 5x med for frig/inty killing and assisting on bigger ships.
To kill some of the more annoying close range cruisers, i just fly in parallel. Also helps when you are tracking disrupted.
Now I got a 2nd account running an Augy with 4 Med Cap x-fers. So I changes the setup a bit (and got the Navy Poc).
High:8x Mega Beams. Med: 2x tracking comps, 1x sensor booster, cap rechagers. Low: Mar, Lar (or 2x lar), 3-4 hardners, 2 heat sinks and a RCU (to fit the lasers)
Drones: Same as before.
With the augy pumping me full of cap, i can run it all 23/7. So if you got a corp m8 who would like to earn a bit of isk on the side, drag him along in a logistic alt. The Tracking Comps makes my beams kill frigs down to about 17km. If they get closer, my drones rip them apart.
Also, I've found it useless to change weapons to tackle Angle/Merc, I used to fit Arties/AC's instead, but it doesn't change the speed of killing.

Thanks alot for your help
I am a lazy person. So when i make isk i want to do it semi-afk almost... Abaddon seems to be the best option to run a hard tank and just slowly sit and work on the rats with mega pulse and drones.
I have come up with this setup. What do you think? Good for a lazy/tank abaddon lvl 4 missions?
6x mega beam II (use multifre and have 297dps 30+19 range) 1x heavy NOS 1x drone link aug - 1x x5 webif 3x cap recharger II - 2x accommodation large armor repairer 2x cap power relay II 3x rat specific hardeners t2. - rigs: 2x auxilary nano pump 1x capacitor control circuit
So what do you think Heavy tank? I can run 1 repper and guns 13mins without the nos active. activate nos and it runs forever. both reppers without nos runs for 2.5mins and with nos it runs for 3mins.
dps aint perfect. but with drones i have 412 dps. fitted a drone link to get some extra range to help out? worth it? better to have a small gun insteed?
i like the aux rigs as they boost my repping amount and i can use named reppers to be able to fit everything.
should i go for this and start my first lvl 4 mission?

If you go the wasteful overtank and screw gank route, you might as well use the Apoc. Save a few mil on the ship purchase, and get more or less the same performance. Especially if you don't even use 8 lasers, the Abaddon is pointless.

how to set up the abaddon with 8 mega beams and still have cap for a tank that aint "risky" to use and needs to be warped out x amount of times?

Cap Booster. And your main tank is range and gank, in many missions I don't even have to activate my repper. Does not work against Guristas and Angels of course, I only use it for Blood Sansha and Drones which are 80% of the missions I get from Amarr agents. Two reppers on a beam setup kinda defeats the whole purpose of beams. If you like to get close enough to the NPCs that you have to tank so much, you should use pulses. And even without cap booster it is easy to run a sustainable (not permarunning everything, just permarunning guns and pulsing repper as needed) beam setup.
Like 8 * Megabeam 2* CR2, TC2, AB or SeBo depending on mission LAR2, EM+Therm hard, CPR, PDU, 2 HS2 3* CCC For drones, replace the hards with two EANMs or EANM+DC to be on the safe side. Actually you should be able to run blood/sansha with just two EANM+DC too.

so are you saying that it is only doable to use the abaddon on sansha/blood/drones missions... angels and other stuff is alot harder? or still doable but a bit slower becouse the damage that lasers do?

Guristas and to a lesser degree Angels get a lot of their DPS from missiles, against which using range as tank does not work. So you REALLY need some sort of ubertank to fight these guys, because you cannot range tank and they hit resistances that are initially low on your ship. Which in turn forces you to remove damage mods, meaning your do less damage against twice as good resistances. This decreases the Abaddons performance against these NPCs by more than half. It is still possible to do most of these missions (I doubt an Abaddon that can live through Guristas Vengeance would be able to kill Rachen though), but you will be making very little isk/time.
So if you are limited to using Amarr ships, you should be limiting yourself to using Amarr agents if you want to earn serious money from missions. The only ship that can really run all races missions without performance issues is the Raven and its derivates.

Edited by: Reviera on 11/09/2007 12:05:28 ok i took a look at a 8x beam setup in EFT. and came up with this...
8x megabeams 1x tracking comp 1x webif 2x cap rech 1x LAR 2x active hardeners (expl, kin for ex) 1x EANM 1x heat sink 1x RCU (PDU is not enough to give me power grid). (i do have advanced weapon upgrades on lvl 4).
is this viable with running cap? and having enough resist for tanking?
stats is like this. reistance: em74%, therm60%, kin78%, expl77%. (tanked for kin/expl). guns and repper runs for 2min 30sec. no repper and everything runs for 12min.
thoughts?
ok read your message above now and se that i should do amarr. so change the hardeners for em/therm then insteed... but is serpantis missions possible? (kin/therm) in the middle :)

First of all remove the web. It does not help a beam setup at all (fast stuff orbiting in web range will be unhittable even when webbed), and actually reduces the efficiency of your drones. And no, the tank will likely not be enough for Angel or Guristas. As rule of thumb, you want 85%+ resistance in the primary and 75%+ resistance in the secondary damage type for your NPCs on a single repper setup that really has to tank, and the repper better be able to permanently run. Seriously run Amarr agents or train for a ship better suited to whatever race you run.

Why 3 hardeners and a DC? Shouldnt you be using 2x2 (ie 4) hardeners, rat specific per mission?

Edited by: Rionus on 13/09/2007 03:35:36 Been running this Abaddon setup for Amarr agents with no problems so far: 8x Mega Pulse Laser II
3x Cap Recharger II Tracking Computer II
Large Armor Repairer II 2x Armor xxxx Hardener II Damage Control II Capacitor Power Relay II 2x Heat Sink II
3x Capacitor Control Circuit I
I've even done Worlds Collide with it (Sansha side + changed the two hardeners to do the Angels side).
With my skills it gives me 740 DPS with Amarr Navy Multifreq (17-9.6 optimal-falloff) and 591 DPS with Scorch (52+9.6). In some missions you won't be able to permatank the spawn but you kill everything so fast that you don't need to tank long. Usually I'm never below 50% Armour, and when I am it's not for long.
The two hardeners + DC II are better than two hardeners + EANM II as it also gives you 60% resists in hull... incase you need them. It happened to me once in Silence the Informant because I was dumb enough to get full aggro but still survived thanks to the gank (went to 85% hull).
I never ran out of cap either, although EFT says I'll last six and a half minutes with multifreq or scorch, but indefinitly with gamma and above.
If you don't feel safe going with this setup, try it out on SiSi.
Edit: When doing missions against Sansha or Blood I use 2x Therm hardeners, giving me 90.3% Therm and 74.5 EM resists. Against everything else I use 1x Kin + 1x Therm (78.5% & 81.4% respectively) or 1x Kin & 1x Explosive (78.5 & 77.1 respectively).
These are the missions I comleted with it and the hardeners I used. There might be a few missing but it should be enough to get you started: Attack of the Drones 1 Kin + 1 Exp hardener Tip: each of the first four drones calls in reinforcements. Kill one at a time.
Blockade vs Sansha. 2x Therm hardeners Better with sniping setup. Enemy use tracking disrupters.
Cargo Delivery vs Serpentis 1 kin + 1 therm hardener
Gone Beserk vs EoM Setup 1 with 2 Kin hardeners EoM Spawn Order: Crusader -> Death Knight -> Hydra -> Hydra + Ogre -> Death Lord
Intercept the Saboteurs vs Guristas 2 Kin hardeners
Right Hand of Zazzmatazz 1 kin and 1 therm hardener
Ritualistic Raids Abaddon 2x Therm
Silence the Informant Abaddon 1 kin and 1 therm hardener
Smuggeler Interception vs Blood 2x Therm
Sansha Spies 2x Therm
Rogue Drone Harassment 1x Kin + 1x Expl Tip: engage mother drone till she calls, disengage. let your drones out, kill 'regulars', call drones to bay, back on mother. etc.
The Damsel In Distress 1 Therm + 1 Kin
Unauthorized Military Presence vs Blood 2x Therm Note: all enemies 70-90km away... good sniping mission
Worlds Collide: Angels & Sansha 2 therm for Sansha, refit with 1 exp + 1 kin for Angels
Vengeance vs Sansha 2x therm
