Edited by: MotherMoon on 11/09/2007 21:07:14 instead of train to a lvl in a skill why not have the game think about as in your training that skill in general?
yes I know it only seems like a play on words but think about it, if a skill would gain sp continuely hitting a level when it reaches the sp requirements. you'd still have to log in to change a skill once it has reach the sp cap and has hit lvl 5.
just thinking about that today. but I suppose you'd have to take out the ability to train skills while not paying for the game first.. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP need...more room... |

so you can cancel subscriptions while on vacation and train big skills?
a % skilltraining thing where you'd train a skill for a period of time and the skill would improve at the same rate and ratio, good idea but too late and not worth it at all considering the huge amount of changes that would have to be made
good idea for the next game from the next game-developer that wants to have the skilltraining feature in the game

They have already fixed that exploit, if you have a cancelled or suspended account, no training takes place.. I dn't se where this change would afect that. I always thought this made sense, don't say, "I want to study this topic until i get to some imaginary new knowledge level.. then i'll just hang out until i get a new crazy thing to learn". Instead, "I want to learn how to do THIS better".. and you continue training that until you can't learn any more (Level V). It makes sense, would be a minimal coding change, and would help solve some of the gripes about having to log on every 25 minutes when training early skills.

I disagree. I think of skill levels like education levels downloaded to your brain. Level 1 would be some crash course among friends. Level 2 would be a training workshop on the subject. Level 3 would be something on the line a formal education. Level 4 would be a university study. Level 5 would be a doctorate or the experience of a lifetime of research.
While the code changes to let a skill continue training would indeed relatively moderate. Partial skill progress (ie Level 1.5 would give 1.5 times the benefits of Level 1) would make all the stats calculations immensely more complex.
Personally I don't think either suggestion is really necessary. ---------------------------------------------- The glass is neither half full nor half empty. It's just twice as big as it need to be... |

wait no I didn't say anything about lvl 1.5, just the the sp continues to go up. you only gain the level once you reach it.
so only lvl 1,2,3,4,and 5 ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP need...more room... |

Wrong, it's not an exploit and the skill training will only stop on Serenity (the server in China).

Actually, the two would work well together. Skills no longer stop training at the next level, but they also no longer train on suspended accounts. Fair trade. ----- Visible Implants - good for so many occasions |

i just reactivated an account that was training BS V, and it completed while the accound was canceled. You mean to tell my the magical gnomes at CCP felt like giving me BS 5 when i reactivated my account. The devs have stated that skills will continue to train upon canceling an account. It wasnt that way for maybe a month, and then an proar from the players forced them to change it. Get your facts straight.

I don't mean to tell you that any more than I mean to tell you that skills don't stop training at the next level. If you have trouble understanding that then just insert "would" before "no longer" in both cases. kthxbye. ----- Visible Implants - good for so many occasions |

Id like to be able to train all my character at the same time if I want. Without having to cancel the training of another character. If that cant be done. Then perhaps CCP can delete the unused characters and use the space for more useful things.

I think you misunderstood him completely, he was syaing that my idea would be a fiar trade with removing the fact that your skills train without paying as in...
update! your skills keep training until lvl5! update 2, you can no longer gain sp on an unpaid account!
he was saying that this would be a fair trade.
I mean think about it, my idea would kill character farming compared to increase it. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP need...more room... |

For the love of god, there's no technical reason CCP couldn't allow 1 level of a skill to continue training after an account is cancelled but then suspend it automatically continuing to the next level (or next skill in a queue or whatever).
See, thanks to the magic of programming, this sort of thing is possible, and then everyone wins.

yes I care about people getting 60 free days of skills by skill queuing battle ships 5 and large guns 5 and not paying a penny. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP need...more room... |

I really don't see the big deal about non-paying accounts. It would take me 38 days to train up to BS 5 from BS 4, but 8 days to train from 1-4. So if we were able to train from 1-5 non stop on an inactive account the most you would gain is 8 days for a BS, or a little less than 18% extra SP than currently.
I agree that whenever an account is made inactive skill training should stop, but the suggested change really doesn't make THAT much of difference even if things stay the way they are currently. 18% extra SP isn't a whole lot, and I believe it is a fair price to pay to make the game more playable for everyone.
Of all the suggested skill queuing systems this is my favorite. It doesn't give you a huge advantage, but you don't have to be around to change your skills when it completes while your at work. So:

The problem with that approach is it makes life way easier for farmers also. The only solution to the supposed threat from over farming is to charge ISK for using the skill queue. And if that is done then we may as well have a decent one.
