I just joined a merc/pirate corp and sometimes if there is no war targets or no one in corp on I would like to solo pirate. I have 6.5mil sp in caldri/gallente mix. I can fly caldari cruiser, bc, bs and gallente af, cruiser, bc. I can use t2 small guns, t2 small and med drones, and 20 days til t2 med guns. Whats my best ship for solo pirating? I ahve been also debating belt or gate piracy. Thanks ofr any input.

Well if you can fly gallente af's the ishkur is a good solo ship, or the good old blaster thorax.
But i like using the smaller cruiser sized ships for my pirating, i like to move fast and be harder to catch if i get blobed. Hence i like my cruisers,af's and hacs ---------------------------------------------

Try a Myrm. Only decision is if you go with lots of T2 small/medium drones or 5 x T1 Ogres. Helps if you know what you'll attacking but you can't go wrong with blasters and T2 mediums really in a belt. They will melt at a gate though.
Rax is fun and dirt cheap.

Best ship for solo gate camping is a covert ops next door with your alt sat in it! Be careful.
Drake or Sensor boosted Blaster Rokh will both snag the slow ones and kill them under sentry fire. Good luck though!

If you want to camp a gate you need something with a proper tank. Drones tend to be stressful under sentry fire, so I suggest the Drake for that. The myrm will do it just as well, but you`ll need to watch your drones all the time. Besides, the drake has the main advantage of dealing specific damage. (which ofc the myrm can do also, but you can only have so many drones at one time...)
So I`d say Drake, passive tank, all four kinds of heavies in the cargohold, a can of beer and a good CD with noisy music. Have fun!

Soloing in a cruiser is fun and exciting. A well flown cruiser can take down BC's solo and sometimes BS's depending on the other pilot.
Try a rax one of my corpmates flys a rax and gets lots of kills including while camping lowsec gates.

Sweet I will def be trying that out. Whats a good rax setup for pirating. I have run one with the 1600mm plate and small t2 but I would think not enough dps.

dont put a plate on thorax. its only benefit is speed and youŠll gimp that by putting on a plate. put on resists instead.
if you have low sp, go for frigates instead. and aim for assault frigs or interceptors for the moment. get small t2 guns and support skills
cruisers come when you have maxed your support skills.
i see you have gal af, go for iskur and max your drones. or if you need exp, start with tristan. iŠve never flown tristan but many swear by it. and its cheap to lose
myrm rocks when you got your t2 drones (with drone interfacing at min lvl4) and guns

Re: fighting at gates
I wouldn't use anything smaller than a BS, or a command ship. You will be able to get away with using a Hurricane for smallish targets, as you can use 100% of your cap/cap charges for your tank.
Forget about drone ships at gates. Your drones will get popped almost instantly. Myrm is garbage due to this.
BS have really bad lock times, so pick something with more than 4 mids: Tempest or Hype, so you can fit a sensor booster.
Pick on smaller ships (BCs) and lighter BS with weaker tanks. If you go after a dual rep Phoon or Domi, you're going to die, as they can tank your DPS 100% and just wait for the gate guns to finish you.
BCs are good for popping haulers, but that's about it. They just don't have the tank/HP to stand and fight with another ship of comparable size, plus deal with sentries.
Ships that are also heavily dependant on drones for their DPS (even if they're gun ships, such as the Mega, Brutix, Hype, Geddon, etc.) are losing 200-380 DPS off the top due to lack of drones, so take that into account when attacking something.
If you can't kill the target quickly, you're probably going to die if it ends up being any sort of endurance fight. Get in, kill, and get out.

Edit: dont equip small guns on a med ship unless you want everyone and their mom to laugh at you dont rush into bigger ship, without the support skills youŠll just be a target FYI support skills are f.ex. navigation, armor, cap&grid etc
I have like 6.5 mil sp. I can use t2 smalls and t2 med and small drones and have drone interfacing lvl 4. I have 3-4 months pvp expericnce and have lived in 0.0 just new to piracy. So thats why I am asking the n00b questions. So whats a good thorax setup for pirating?

At a gate you'll die very quickly without an alt on the other side. With that in mind and with SP preventing a pimped out Command ship, try ambushing at the gate, it will give you time to repair and less time under sentry fire. Make a safe within a short distance from the gate and align. When your alt sees a suitable target jump in, warp to the gate, gank, loot and leave. This also helps to prevent haulers getting cold feet when their scout jumps through in a shuttle. Enjoy. Alpha

Yes, this is a good idea if you have a covops alt.
Other way, for solo-ing, there's really four things which are good for roaming around:
Tristan - well setup, you can pirate frigs & destroyers & miners & noob cruiser pilots. Harder to catch at a gate, since it's a frig. Also, quite cheap to fly.
Thorax - very nice ship. I personally don't fly it, but I've seen it can work very well (I fly minmatar - the Rupture is comparable in many ways). With a 800 plate, you probably could gank a hauler or two at a gate. Has more of a chance of actually getting locked down at a gate if you don't have an alt / corpmember to scout.
Vexor - no idea, but I hear they work very nicely.
As for BCs... well, they've got this problem: they still can't really gank something of their own size under sentry fire, due to the sentries preety much keeping the entire tank busy (a Myrm with BC IV should have some spare tank to play with, but probably about 30-40 DPS to spare.
Plus, BCs can get caught at a gate relatively easily, and are more expensive to lose.
AFs have a unfavourable cost/efficency ratio (although the Ishkur is arguably the best AF around) and are still liable to get caught at a gate due to cruiser-like agility.
Personally, I'd have both Tristan, a Thorax and a Myrmidon ready (Myrm when you see a BC in the system you're based in, Tristan/Thorax for roaming).

AFs imo are unfortunately nothing but ISK-sinks atm (hidden whine for AF changes). You can do the job of an ishkur in a thorax or vexor much better and cheaper. Thats why I dont fly AFs anymore, easier to loose and about double or more than double the cost of a T1 cruiser. ___________________________________

Yeah, I have to agree with that. I love flying the little buggers to no end, but they need a bit of love ;)
These days I fly T1 frigs a lot, they're amazingly fun and cheap. Also, I don't get overzealous flying them and attack roaming Ishkurs

For solo piracy I prefer the Thorax. As mentioned before its cheap, and can be fitted to do the job well.
Vexor could be fun too, but just experiment a bit and see what suits your playstyle best

I will start with a vexor since I have pretty decent drone skills and it pwn's. Once I get t2 meds I will move to a thorax. i will see what happens. I see a solo roaming coming tonight.
My alt will be in a covert op in 14d :)
