Hello; Like a few here I am having consistant crashes when clicking on locations that are in my People & Places window. I found a good workaround (no crashing for hours) is to not use People & Places ;-)
I allways now use the right-click-in-space method to move anywhere in the system, and the map to move between systems. Seems to be stable for me now! Cheers

Yep,I get this, normally happens when I left click on a bookmark in people and places to highlight it, though it is a strange bug and doesnt happen all the time .
The problem only seems to arise from trying to highlight the bookmark, if I just rightclick on the bookmark and select the appropriate action, it seems to work ok.

I've had the problem happen left, right and shift-clicking on bookmarks in P&P. And as was said it doesn't happen all the time, although as far as I can recall when it did I was always in space and not in base.
Also I don't think it ever happened while using other functionality in that P&P window like adding a bookmark. When I wanted to drag that new bookmark into a folder however there was a good chance of a CTD.
Like you I'm using the work-around at the moment, but I would like to get back to using the P&P as soon as possible. Way to many submenus to open when going through the right-click in space method, and a lot of the time the space station or a planet gets in the way of "space" and you get their properties instead of the menu you want.
Sucks when you are in a hurry and have to run to pirates. But oh well, at least it's better than CTDing when trying to run from pirates. I already lost a ship doing that :(

I've found that if I consistantly get CTD when using my People & Places, if I delete a bookmark the problem goes away! (At least for a while).
If you wish to run from pirates quickly, I suggest always setting your autopilot to have a destination out of system, that way a quick click to enable the autopilot gets you going far quicker and without the worries of a P&P CTD:)

Just a quick update on this: Once I installed and then un-installed the Catalyst 4.2 drivers, and went back to 4.1, I have not had a single CTD even while clicking away in People & Places. I also removed the iPod service on startup, doubt that was causing problems...?

I have also found that if you ensure that no other windows overlap or are overlapped by the people and places window, and that you ensure that you bring the window into focus, by clicking its header first (signalled by a light white line edgine the bookmark window inner edge) before using it then the problem doesn't seem to occur. I think, from reading the crash logs, that the CTD is caused by the program being unable to bring the people and places window into focus, and remove focus from any of the other windows which overlap it. Please take note CCP. [ |

I hadnt had a problem with people and places since i started playing about 2/3 weeks ago. But over the last 3 days.... damn its been annoying. Right click first, left click first, close first then reopen, so many CTD's . I have been trying to do missions but its impossible without being able to go to the bookmarks. Seems to take 2 or 3 crashes before I can finally use it, then in about 5/10mins when i try to use it again, bang, crash out.
I will try to use the focus tip tho, see if that helps.

I have this same exact problem. Please fix this P&P bug, because it is making my life a living hell doing agent missions.

yeah i have had over 15 CTD's doing agent missions to day because of this.
I tried the tip about focusing first and also making sure no other windows are touch/overlapping. It didnt help. I even went as far as closeing all the other windows, but it still crashed. It even crashes if u just hover over the places entry, to see the hover over text...

I think it may have something to do with the windows mode. Can anyone else confirming not crashing when in full screen?

I've had the problem both in windowed and fullscreen mode. I've also had it left, right and shift-clicking.
However, once I removed my radeon 4.1 drivers and then installed 4.2 (If you do this make sure you follow the procedures right. That means uninstall 4.1 as instructed, reboot and install 4.2) the problem went away for me.
Can't say it will help you, but it did the trick for me. I have a Radeon 9700 non-pro btw.

I play with a Matrox Parhelia. CTDs about 30% of the time I use it. No rhyme or reason to it.
CCP PLEASE fix this!!

Same problem, bookmark issue. FX5200. Worked flawlessly before the patch running 3 clients (2 mining in safe space and 1 mission taker). BTW, uncheck the "occlude" in generic when you hit the escape key to get multiple instances to work (Ships occluded by sun/stars should be off).

It seems to me that the problem is that sometimes when I try to delete a bookmark from Places, it doesn't delete, or at least doesn't appear to have been deleted. It's only ever been after occasions like that that I CTD. But for a few days now it just crashes because I've tried to delete cargo container's locations and they just won't go. Anyone else notice this?

Edited by: Etom Voke on 25/02/2004 23:54:01 Edited by: Etom Voke on 25/02/2004 22:27:08 For some reason things are a bit better now with the CTDs for me. I had a problem with the bookmarks and offer what seems to work for me. Please note that this may just be coincidence and that it may not work for you. Something similar to this appeared in a post either in this thread or another related post.
When you use the People & Places make sure that you first leftclick to the right of where it says "search" (in the empty area). This should make a small, white highlight (barely perceptible) around your bookmarks. If you don't get the highlight, proceed as follows anyway (this first step lately, as I see it, may not be necessary, but I don't "mess" with what seems to work for me). After that, hover your mouse over the bookmark you want to use; when a popup appears describing the bookmark, leftclick the bookmark to highlight it. After that, make sure the popup is still present, though I think at this point it may not be necessary. Now you can rightlick the bookmark and select as usual. Again, please note that this sequence I am following may not be helping anything; maybe I just don't CTD anymore using bookmarks, but it "seemed" to clear my bookmark problem.
On another note, I sometimes CTD after I hit enter after typing in the corporation chat, but this is a rare event.
UPDATE. The above is confirmed for me. When a popup does not appear over a bookmark, I get a CTD if I try to use that bookmark. Even if I do get a popup, I will sometimes use the bookmark, it will appear to work, and then I will CTD (rare), or rather, back to the login screen. I advise to close and restart the client since on a prior occasion the client advised me to close it and restart it.
